Premier League Matchweek 5 16th-18th September

Statistics doesn't always tell the whole story, but still (stats are from Wikipedia):

I'd love to gloat, but if you lose tomorrow, we are 5 points clear.

5 points is nothing. Win, lose or draw tomorrow and you can still win the league comfortably. Or not, depending on how it pans out.

My point is, tomorrow is anything but a "must win game".

I'm actually not really talking about points. I'm talking about a teams mentality. Even Jose said he's going to have to lift the players for this one. He's right...you can easily get into a rut. Sure you may as well at some point..especially away at stoke when it's minus 2 degrees on a January afternoon, but as Ferguson always said....you need to start well in the Premier League...you can have your off times later once you have established points...but playing catch up early on is so much harder.

By the way, I edited it. 6 points if you lose. But still, it's nothing.

We could go on a big losing run starting at Swansea. It's early days.

Lol. False humility. If we drop points tomorrow, things will start looking desperate. First of all, fans and players morale is fragile, next two games could become really tough and next month, we have Chelsea and Liverpool away in consecutive weeks. With City's fixture list looking relatively easy till december, I say tomorrow is a must win.

Yeah I was saying that a few weeks back when some ppl had you believe we played like Chelsea in the 2012 CL final.

Yeah agreed. Lose against Watford...a team that United are supposedly meant to beat....fairly easily... and after the last week or so, that fragile morale starts to really eat in, no doubt. We aren't playing like City at the moment...so we need to grind out with wins at the moment. We can't afford to lose this one.

No, I'm serious.

+12 points is a big lead. +6 points with 33 games left is nothing. Almost irrelevant.

Sounds like the match week thread after they beat Palace 1-0 away last season to also make it 5 out of 5.

Agreed things can change....but with the way that Pep has got you playing I can't see you losing too many this season. You must be very happy with how you are playing and how he has managed it so far? I mean...actually, it pains me to say it..but he has organised this team really really well.

Wow Bournemouth must have reached Bravo vs United levels.

Stop worrying about city.

They are very beatable, Navas is meh, Stones can be exploited and they have had a lot of luck so far.

We were one Zlatan touch away from drawing with them and we were very crap.
Of course they are beatable. But they won't be playing top teams every week, instead they will play average to shit teams. And Pep is the master when it comes to winning matches against inferior teams.

Would be very surprised if they don't reach 90+ points this season.

Tomorrow is important, if we can win we've then got two back to back home games and gives us a chance of being on 18 points after 7 games, which would be great.

I really can't understand why there is so much pessimism on here.

You should easily dispatch Watford.

If it is any consolation Chelsea in the 10/11 season won their first games scoring 21 goals and conceding 1, they ended the season trophyless.....
They had as manager Ancelotti who has won three league titles in his career. Pep on the other side has won 6 out of 7 seasons he managed in top leagues.

It will be very difficult. We need to go in a run like Chelsea under Mourinho in his first two seasons in England, hope that they make mistakes, and defeat them in Emptyhad if we want to win the league.

Saying that, I would be quite happy even with the second position. Our team needed much more building than theirs.

Referee had a shocker there. It is a clear foul on the goali

Premier league refs seem intent to outdo each other in making shocking decisions.

How was that not a foul. Negredo basically headed the keepers hand.

1-1

So two goals that shouldn't have been allowed for clear fouls on the keepers
