Premier League Matchweek 5 16th-18th September

The PL needs the video technology implemented. This can't go on any longer.

Imagine if we lose the title because Clattenburg bottled the derby vs City and din't give us the 2 penalties and the red.
First of all 1 penalty becuase the Otamendi one was never a peno. Secondly Clattenburg was the least of our problems that day. Thirdly that game will not decide the title.

Who replaces Lukaku? Who is the reserve keeper? Where's the depth in the centre of midfield?

Not enough of them.

Deolafeu and McCarthy are good players not making the team. They need a striker better than Valencia for backup, Kone is also decent tbf
Sure they will add more depth in January but they have a good squad already tbh

Both Merseyside clubs look good so far this season. Should make for a good couple of derby games this season.

Not enough of them.

Kone/Valencia/Mirallas - upgrade needed but still decent enough.
Robles, good back up keeper.
McCarthy, Cleverley, Besic, Gibson for CM. We have lots of depth. As long as we aren't having to replace both CMs at the same time we will be fine.

Who joins Everton in January? They missed a host of targets in August when it's relatively easier to buy compared to January.

If we are in contention for top 4 then there will obviously be interest from players.

McCarthy isn't rated by their fans. Kone isn't decent if you have aspirations to finish above 11th.

January is no panacea.

If depths equates to lads then you have depth. If it's about replacing quality with quality then there's not much depth from that list.

Fourthly Bailly should have given away a penalty and been sent off.

Pep playing long ball football, where, when?
Can't remember the games, I believe one was in a German cup match, but Pep is a very pragmatic coach who isn't afraid of changing things up. It's not his go-to strategy by any means, but he isn't afraid of doing what needs to be done in order to win.
Start of last season against Dortmund (Bayern 5 - Dortmund 1) the first (and possibly second, don't remember from the top of my head) goal was set up by Boateng playing the ball across more than half the pitch. It became sort of Boateng's signature move, also tried at the European Cup quite a few times, yet overall with little success.
That's not to say the Bayern matches solely relied on those long balls, they were one attacking element among many.

Koeman has done a great job. Quickly got his team playing well after picking up a side that was down in the dumps after last season.

Yeah, Boateng's "long balls" now aren't so much long balls in the sense of hit and hope; he's just bloody brilliant at those passes.

There was one game in a German cup match, though, that things weren't going well for Bayern (this was when Schweinsteiger was still there) and the match just turned into a scrappy fight, which, at the time, shocked me as this was Pep we were talking about, but it seemed he realised this wasn't the game for his style and opted for a more direct, long ball apporach which I believe won them the game in the end. I remember looking into the Bundesliga thread after the game with some Bayern fans happy that despite the lovely football they were playing under Guardiola, it was nice to see they could still win those scrappy games with some fight.

That never happened. After 10 matches, they had 2 draws and one defeat, being in second position behind Liverpool.

Well maybe not 10 games. I wasnt being exact seeing as it was about 7 years ago. But they certainly started the season on fire and were smashing teams early on.

First - the handball was a penalty. He deflected the ball with his hand which wasn't even close to his body.

Second - while I agree on that, Clattenburg was definitely a big problem. That red card and the penalty we deserved could have changed the game entirely. It's stupid to say he was "the least" of our problems.

Third - Do you come from the future or something? How would you know that?

Yes, he also played Javi Martínez as a 8 or 10 (can't recall) and had him targetted with long balls to use him as a target man. Pep adapts, even within games.

Pep playing long ball football, where, when?

His very first match v Dortmund as Bayern manager, he played Javi Martinez as the target man(like Fellaini under Moyes' Everton). Also in the 2nd leg vs Atleti last year, Bayern were extremely direct, IMO, they were playing Sam Allardyce style.

The rules state you need intent and/or your arm to move toward the ball for a peno to be given. Never a pen.

Common sense. Unless you can provide evidence of where the 4th game of a season decided the outcome some 35 odd games later.

Jerome Boateng long ball to the forwards and wingers

I think we are missing the point to Pep's subtle dig. There is a huge difference to using long passes and just hitting long into areas, which is what I think he's getting at.

It's also not entirely true of course.

If a long ball gets us goal would you not want it? Blind to RvP in the WC was technically a long ball but that was one of most brilliant goals in that WC.

We played long passes because

1. Passing through their midfield wasn't easy

2. Aerially they were shaky

3. We had ibra Fellaini Rashford and Pogba

Everton without Moyes to win the league. Sunderland with Moyes to get relegated. Poetic justice. Another West Ham implosion. Imagine them going down as well with their spanking new subsidized stadium.

@R'hllor is LVGs biggest fan, he means Mourinho. He has been curled up in a ball in a dark room crying ever since LVG got the boot.

First of all dont talk shit, biggest fan crying in a dark room because LvG got a sack...bitch please, stop making up stuff and run around telling others. You wont find a single post of mine showing that i am some kind of LvG fan. What i saw as negative i said it,same goes if i saw something positive during his time here.

He must have been the only one to stay up and see positvives in lvgs boring football.

Nope, never saw anything positive in his boring junk football style, spec. not in 2nd season.

Why do you only refer to Mourinho as cnut?

He is our manager and dont give a rat`s ass about others outside United to call them the same. He is what he is,a winner but in same time a classless cnut.

We were very fortunate to win the one in '99, to be fair. Bayern were much better barring the 5 minute bottlejob and some inspired subs. In Moscow, we were one penalty (thank you, Terry) from losing that one; the other's were against an unbeatable Barcelona. In hindsight, we're fortunate we got the two we did, let alone, won the others against Barca.
fecking hell, you're making us sound like Accrington Stanley. Were you even alive when we won the Treble? The inferiority complex of some of our supposed fans beggars belief...

We should have won the game much earlier in the 2008 CL finals. We started brilliantly and missed few easy chances. Lampard scored lucky goal too.
