Cycle, rinse and repeat.
Manager and performances turn to shit, having spent half a bil, wasted two or more years as Utds past sinks further into obscurity.
New manager comes in, shite continues, but he gets best part of 2 years to 'build his team' because he's owed at least that. Half a bil, new squad, not tight knit, no leaders, no core.
Now at least half a decade more has passed.
Against the back drop of FFP and restrictions there's no hope to truly eradicate the average individuals. The speed with which we could catch up, even if everything was year on year done right, is slow and steady. There's no quick fix. Newcastle have played it to perfection to date, but can't skip the slow and steady.
This club has had its downer at imo the worst time possible against FFP/shared riches across PL clubs. The blame for this downer lies well and truly at Woodward and the Glazers door. The crossover from Fergie/Gill is still the catalyst for this entire shitshow. We had chances to arrest the slide along the way, but sadly failed at all of them.
I would say the Abramovich approach is now what we need. Obviously not the spending craziness, because we can't. But it's time to rinse through managers like there's no tomorrow until something works. And when I say that, I mean cut those losses at max 2 years if it ain't working. Absolutely none of this stay of execution lark. 12 to 24 months is your lot.
Nothing beats the eye test. If it ain't working, move on. And the same applies to players within that period. Brutality and standards. Apply them.
