PL L FA Premier League

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2:0 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Thu, 26 December 2024

Pretty obvious take but we have forwards who can't score, midfielders who can't run, defenders who can't defend and a keeper who has to be in the conversation for worst PL goalkeeper ever. Last night Wolves looked stronger and faster, especially in the first half. Worrying start for a new manager

Onana is being made a scapegoat here. People forget that had he not made those amazing saves in earlier games, we would defo be in a relegation battle. The whole team is extremely poor. Our strikers cant score, defenders can’t defend. Midfield has been porous too.

Oh those amazing saves. Wake up, it's their number one job, to keep the ball from going in for fecks sake and not conceding through their hands or the center between the posts.

What about all those amazing saves he made in last years Ch.L. he basically single handedly eliminated us from the easiesr group a team could have.

You can defend him all you like, but in my 30 years of watching united, Onana is up there with Taibi as the worst keeper in a United shirt

Of course overall the team is very poor.

This is the first time post Ferguson were I am really depressed when it comes to our chances of turning things around. It seems that we are running out of options and excuses.
I’m not exaggerating - watching these games has begun to negatively impact my health. I live and breathe this club but now may need to step away for a period just to get my mind right.

Barthez was as much a clown as both of them... but yeh. agree: Onana isn't good enough

I tune in each week hoping for something better. It’s the hope that draws you back in. Still it’s a big contrast to when id watch matches during SAF’s time when if we didn’t get a result it would leave me angry for much of the weekend. While it’s still mildly frustrating I’m somewhat indifferent to it now.

That is perfect understandable and pretty much how I feel.
When I used to see Sir Alex on the touchline, I used to feel that anything was possible.

But now, even after all the different managers and all the money wasted on different players, I am not at all surprised when we lose to Bournemouth or Wolves.

And as you say, it is the hoping for something good to happen that kills you.

I am with you on this.
I am in my 75th year and have been living and breathing Manchester United ever since the Munich disaster. Albeit not living in Manchester.

Like many others, I had high hopes for LVG, Jose, Ole, Ten Hag and now Amorim, and even Moyes initially.
Managers come and go.
Players come and go. But success only occasionally and not in the league.

But I will never give up hoping to see United back at the top.
Because all I can do is hope.... and wait.... and get disappointed... and hope....

Forget Europe. Forget the cups. The focus needs to be on 40 league points and safety . That’s how much shit we’re in.

Think with Wolves their performances have been better than their results and they have had a few dodgy decisions go against them. A bit of confidence and they are starting to click.

I have had the most depressing and stressful year of my life and will be glad 2024 is coming to an end. Been also dying with the flu since just before Xmas. Just as well I follow Utd then....
Same here bro! Into second week of this flu.
Somehow though this Man Flu is easier to cope with than Man Utd at moment.

The fact is that Wolves were better in every single part of the game. Just like Bournemouth and many more of our opponents this season. We're in 14th position because we deserve to be.

Wolves looked sharper and more positive 11 vs. 11. I turned off the TV when Bruno was sent off. I knew what was coming.

There are several things we can blame on the manager, but I was so annoyed by the lack of quality and common sense from some of our players. I watched the highlights and Onanas error is just unforgiveable. Dalots "performance" was shockingly terrible. He was so easily swept aside by Semedo in the first half, when Wolves had a goal ruled out for offside. Every time he went forward he did a couple of ridiculous stepovers and passed the ball backwards again. I'm not defending Brunos second yellow card, but what on earth was he supposed to do with that pass from Dalot? I know we're short on full backs, but please please avoid Dalot for a couple of games. He's been absolutely awful.

We have high expectations because most of our players cost a fortune. With the money spent, we should be fighting for the title every season. Let's reset again. Let the manager build his own team, and buy players that can develop here.

I'm disappointed, but we knew that Ruben was no miracle worker. I disagree with the people saying that some players are having difficulties understanding/playing the system. The same players never got used to Eriks system either. Or could it be that the players we bought for insane amounts of money just aren't very good?

FACK!

I mean how many times have you seen it happen in general? Then it happens twice against us in the matter of a couple of weeks.

Everyone will be trying it against us now, and fair play to them.
It's unbelievable really, just can't remember it happening to a top side in general. We did it twice in a space of a week. Good on the other teams finding out we are absolutely rubbish defending corners but now our keepers look terrible on corners too so this will be a go to for the other teams.

After first twenty mins or so we could have played all day and never scored.
Bruno getting sent off is becoming a serious issue, the fouls he commits are ridiculous, nine times out of ten there is no goal threat, just silly tackles in the centre of the pitch.
How can our defenders allow two opposition players to get in front and behind our keeper on corners?
Even now we still insist on playing basically with only two men in midfield, when Bruno went off it was definitely only two.
I can see we are running about more, quicker off the mark than before with onetime passes, but it doesn't last or becomes ineffective around the opponents box.
Ruben may have change the system, but our principle tactic for moving up the pitch, is still to go wide.
We are still losing the ball far too cheaply and if if wasn't for Ugarte putting his foot in, we might never get it back!
Was Amad playing yesterday?

Missed the game, can't say the result was unexpected when I saw it. No surprise that Cunha scored either considering he should have been banned by now.

I was at the game, I feel Amad, Mainoo and Ugarte were good...considering the overall team performance.

Bruno and Dalot were genuinely shocking. Uncreative constant wrong decisions or being on the wrong side of their man, and our strikers are just so unthreatening.

We're in 14th place and have regained our negative goal difference.
Back in our heyday, we'd have huge positive goal differences. We'd be spanking teams by big margins.
These days a 0 goal difference would be seen as a step up for us.

It is astounding how low the standards are now.

In a few weeks, INEOS will have been here for a year and in the modern era, we have never been in such a bad position as we are in, now.

Forget Europe. Forget the cups. The focus needs to be on 40 league points and safety . That’s how much shit we’re in.
I think we should easily be able to get 40 pts.
That's not an issue.
The issue I have is that some deluded fans thing we can win the Europa League, which does make me laugh.

To win games we need to score goals and a lot of fans seem to be ignoring the issue of goal scoring.
We can't rely on Hojlund as he is essentially a youth player, who in an ideal world, would be loaned out to a Championship team for at least a year. He needs to learn his craft and then return.
I think Hojlund is about 2 years away from being ready to lead our attack.
Right now, we need a player who is in his absolute prime - late 20s.

Oh those amazing goals!!

Wake up it’s Haaland’s, Ronaldo’s, Messi’s, Henry’s, Mbappe’s, Kane’s job to put the ball in the net for fecks sake!

How dare we praise them for playing well!

Yes.

Onana is to goalkeeping as Ronaldo, Messi, Henry and Mbappe are to goalscoring.

Come on man, of course we need proven goalscorers but how can you overlook Onanas shitshow last year and this years blunders. He conceded a direct corner for fecks sake, conceded through his hands against Bayern, conceded at the center of the goalposts.

We have the worst goalkeeping department of all premier league teams. 2 keepers that concede direct corners and a semi retired third choice. Schoolboy stuff really

Been there and seen it all before after Sir Matt left the stage and we ran through a large number of managers with various outcomes, usually poor results and another manager getting the sack. This continued over a number of years before Alex Ferguson came on the scene and initially he was not much better than his fore runners but he survived due to a cup round win from a goal by Mark Robbins which saved his bacon. From there the total outlook changed and United signed some excellent players and introduced a group of youngsters from the youth team. The rest, as they say, is history.
What concerns me is that we are in such a poor state that I fear Amorim could be the next lamb to the slaughter and the door will revolve yet again. I think that would be a great shame as the blame falls at the players door. How long it will take to get a proper squad together no one
knows but I doubt I will live to see it.

The club needs a complete overall starting with getting rid of both INEOS and the Glazers. Getting someone in who has a passion for football and a wadge of cash. The only person I can think of is Prince Jasimm or someone of his ilk. Trying to get the team to survive with the same squad, the same owners (leeches) and INEOS is not an option. I have not attended a match at OT since the Glazers came in and most likely will never go there again, unfortunately.

Not much more I can say except, I hope and pray someone will come to our rescue and get this great club back where they belong.

Yes he has made mistakes but he has also saved our asses on multiple occasions this season and he has improved a lot. GK is the least of our worries at the moment

Another horror show!

All that money spent on transfer fees, all that money wasted on expensive wages & that's what we have to show for it, shocking.

Need to sign at least 8 truly top class players in Jan &/or Summer to even remotely turn things around.

I’ve looked over the remaining fixtures and on current form have us getting to 35 points

The fact they got rid of the phone-ins completely. Yes it was a bit much them being on most nights, but fans should be able to voice their opinions.

Yeah without fear of being cut off just because it doesn't suit the positive Utd agenda

So makes no sense to me but we are 10/1 to finish top 4 and 80/1 to be relegated. So eight times more likely to get Champions league than Championship.

City are only 7/1 to be relegated, there’s something brewing there…

I think culture is our main problem and it needs a ruthless reset and clear out of anyone without the right attitude. We need to commit to Amorim at this stage and not allow any player undermine him.

Lack of effort is something I thought would have been improved by now but safe to say no matter who the manager is, that these players are simply allergic to working hard.

Amorim must be thinking to himself wtf have I just inherited.

I have never thought onana was good enough, but the goal from a corner was from how we set up. The wolves player said he meant it, and he tried that because he saw the one against spurs.

Same problem both times, no one, at all, on th eback post. A body there and it just doesn't go in. Either time.

Unless the player on the back post just stands and watches it go in like Martinez also did in the previous game.

Completely agree. Somehow we need to find a way to get rid of the Glazers and now Ratcliffe. If it means club supporters refusing to provide any further support, let’s do it.

These leeches are destroying the soul of the club.

Season is a write off.
Just try to keep up in the league.
Cups are gone.
Doubt we have any chance of winning the EL.

We need another big summer.
Only players i reckon are worth keeping (being reasonable):

Amad
Ugarte (been alright)
Mazroui (bad spell but been good)
Yoro (we have to give him a chance)
Martinez (bad form but i think he can do a job in a back 3)
Bruno (hear me out! He's our most prolific player. I'm hoping once we get a better squad he will calm down. He isn't easy to replace.)
Hojlund (give him one more year with a new manager. if we get an Oishmen or Gyokeres he will be an ok sub.)
