Post-match discussion

Its worrying that bus parking teams are finding results at OT. We just lack strong strikers like Rondon/Costa to muscle through the middle. Everytime we get the ball, its played to the side and then crossed back into a packed area defended by giants. Apart from Fellaini and Zlatan, I can't think of anyone who looks likely to score with his head. Its no wonder how little threat we offer up top.

Then we push up, make quick interchanging passes and move the ball forward and attack, duh? You seriously seem dense as the logic to drill crosses against defenders that are tall and 99% likely to clear and outjump and likely to miss our intended if the pass is mishit or defender gets there first. We needed pace instead of slow zombie passing and reactive movement that were there in spades today. Pass forward, through balls, short quick passes, movement off the ball and shoot? That draws out defenders alongside wide fluid movement that stretches out the backline.

Blind has played in midfield for us, or have you a short memory? He played numerous times under VG.

Fellaini should've been off. he offers ABSOLUTELY nothing. Carrick had poor passing, but still offered more than Fellaini does. He's a waste of space and slows down our zombie midfield.

No, I'm not really defending the 'get out wide and cross' tactic, you're making shit up, merely saying that Blind wouldn't have changed shit in the midfield. You suggesting that we should've played TFM in the first place suggests that you're quite 'dense' as you put it yourself.

We've tried all of the fantastic tactics you're heading at today, there was plenty of it and it didn't work. You're deluding yourself if you think Blind would've changed that.

With all the people already complaining about how Ibrahimović would take Rashford's chances, how could Mourinho bring another striker at the beginning of the season?

I also wrote in the match day thread, that they conceded 6 goals in their last 3 games.
They come to OT and immediately are defensive beasts.

Put simply, without our 2 top goal scorers - Ibra and Mata - we may as well have offered the draw before the game started. Our other attackers are so bad at attacking, its embarrassing.
For me, Lingard was the only player who was thinking "score a goal". The rest of our attackers were thinking, "get the ball in the box".
Thought this as well, there was no idea behind anything, just get it in the box and hope something happens.

Ibra can't come back soon enough. At least he does something. The same can't be said about Rashford and Martial

I get the feeling Ibra wouldn't have made a difference in this game. We have seen it many times this season.

We need more players who can score. Another striker, a winger & a midfielder with a goal in them. Against teams like West Brom, we need to be able to attack them from a number of different places.

But but but our fatigued players will come back well rested and stronger after the international break

We're just shit without Zlatan. Playing Young, Rooney, Carrick and Fellaini like it's 2012.
Don't really blame Fellaini for this, but Young, Rooney and Carrick are done.

Watching the Mou post match interview. He basically said everyone was "consistent" today except the forwards (named everyone except Martial, Rashford, Lingard and Henrikh). Pretty much sums up the game. If people don't think we need a superstar forward like Ibra (or Griezmann) today was a good game against that argument.

Awful. But not surprising. What's to say that's not been said after all these shite home draws this season?

Quick interchanging passes, movement to stretch the defense with the lineup we had today, never gonna happen. Especially Martial has zero awareness when it comes to this.

Well, that was depressing. Mhikitariyan was downright poor; Carrick was terrible, Young looked to stumble every time he had the ball, and even then he was decent compared to the rest. Valencia looked tired, for once. Rashford had the touch of a pub footballer. Rojo was good, and Bailly continues to be quite entertaining for a defender.

When teams park the bus against us, you just know that we won't score. We are terrible at breaking down defenses that sit low.
We keep Young because he is the dressing room DJ don't you know.

There was one corner West Brom played into the box that fell to a United lad, their whole team ran back towards their area with little interest about where the ball was.

They then turned at the edge of the area and sat in a straight ten man line!

Jose's pissed at our attacking four. Happy with the back six

Carrick wasn't bad today. Rooney is just a nondescript sub these days.
Carrick wasn't great, he is supposedly the person who controls the tempo and is this magnificent passer. He might have been, but the last few weeks he looks like someone who cannot wait to retire. Although Rashford etc up front were woeful as well. Rashford and Martial are all pace but no brains. I just hope that is inexperience.

An the award for the most predictable result of the season goes to...

Do the players practice anything in training other than 5 yard passes and being stationary in the box.

We are not able to open teams up and the wing play is dire to put it mildly. The only answer against team´s parking the bus is to move the ball quickly and open them up on the wings. Quailty of crossing is baffling and why did we not throw the useless big lump Fellaini forward in the last 20 mintues or so? Rooney once again did nothing execpt mouth off to the ref and even though Miki was having a bad day he was our best shot at doing something unexpected and should have stayed on. We need another transfer window to clean house and bring in better players because the simple fact is we are lacking quailty in various positions.

The difference is that usually we create a ton of chances in the home draws we've had, today there were none.

Rooney has been a nondescript for about 3 years now at least . Bringing him on is more about selling a few jerseys to cover his salary than anything he might remotely do on the pitch .

The result I expected coming into the game to be honest, especially with Pogba, Ibra, Herrera and now Mata out. It's positive that we've gone 19 games in the league now without being beaten, but I'd take converting some of those draws into wins, and losing the odd game here or there over the unbeaten record any day.

We're definitely making progress, and I didn't actually think we were that bad today. I think lots of other teams would have struggled to break that West Brom team down too. Talking of West Brom, they came to do a job, and did it very well. Only thing missing from their point of view was not hurting us with a set-piece.

Realistically I do think our top 4 ambitions are waning, especially with such a difficult run of games towards the end of the season. I do think we could slip further down the table if we start prioritising the Europa League as a better way to get a CL place, which I personally think is our best option (unless Anderlecht cheat us like they did Forest, the swine).

Somewhere in his Portuguese paradise, Van Gaal is laughing his crazy Dutch bollocks off.

José has no faith in the depth of his squad, be interesting what he does in the summer, because with the current injuries, his starting XI is nowhere near good enough to compete for a league title.

Mike Dean is the epitome of a referee. An egotistical, sad, delusional little idiot.
I'm banking on it that he got bullied at school and I really hope he did. I have to self-censor my language here, but you all know what we're thinking.

So you think bringing him on today was to sell jerseys? So Mourinho's goal is to sell jerseys not winning, ok.

Whats this bullshit now about Evans?! Bunch of gold fishes here, whole CAF wanted Evans gone after some really weird performances

Indeed.

In games like today where a team like West Brom come fully intent on defending for 90 minutes with their backs to the wall, even the most average PL defender - looking at you Johnny Evans - will have multiple opportunities in which to perform a last ditch tackle or two making himself look like a superstar in the process. Try performing to that standard for United, where attacks on your goal are few and far between and your concentration levels must be of the highest degree, much like Marcos Rojo on 2 seperate occasions this afternoon.

There is always going to be performances like that during a season, naturally you hope the bench would make an impact but given the amount of injuries and suspensions we had nothing on it to change the game. The reason why we won't make top 4 is the draws at home to Stoke, Arsenal, West Brom, Burnley & Bournemouth where created enough chances to win each game comfortably.

Football was shocking today but as usual their will be an overreaction in the media and Jose will be written off.

So you think bringing him on today was to sell jerseys? So Mourinho's goal is to sell jerseys, not winning.
I think Jose would gladly have signed another striker as well as Ibra, but I suspect the club wanted Rooney to break that scoring record. He has barely been seen since.

surprised to see luck mentioned earlier in the thread

it's quite simple really.......we've been hindered by a lack of quality in the final third

replace some of the more limited quality players like Young, Rooney, Lingard, Fellaini with top talent

give Rashford/Marital a run of games to develop their sharpness

the goals and results will come last season if Mourinho is ruthless enough - based on what he said in his latest presser i feel confident - we need players who will run through walls to win

Jose's pissed at our attacking four. Happy with the back six

I agree with Mourinho, don't get the point of people blaming West Brom for being defensive, that's what they were always going to do.

Has there ever been a more underwhielming 19 game unbeaten run ever?

I think he has come to the opinion that some of the players are too timid, especially the likes of Martial. He likes players who give their all and have a bit of a nasty streak. His sides are never nice. Carrick is too nice, Smalling is too nice.

Especially the way they've been shipping goals recently. A solid performance like that is a springboard for them. You'd like to think that being safe of the drop they'd come out and try to play, but Tony Pulis is far more pragmatic than to do that.

I think they still believed he had something left in him. But after this season, there shouldn't be any discussion about it, he's done.

Jose's united are terrible in attack. Just terrible. I sometimes wonder if going for a conservative manager when our biggest issue was in attack, made sense.

First 11 now allowed go home, are currently doing a training session at OT. Pogba and Ibra also taking part.

We only used one substitution today, even though our game plan wasn't working and that we got a tight program. Seems weird to me?

It didn't. I was a proponent of Ancelotti when he was still available. I see that Bayern just thrashed another side 6-0 today, granted that it's an outstanding team.

Anyhow, that ship has sailed.
