I'm not even pissed off anymore, Europa is our best chance for CL next season and we should concentrate fully on that game.

On the game, our players lack composure. So much good work in the build up but the final touch is lacking, Story of our season.

That's a defeatist attitude! :wenger:

Didn't think Ben foster had an outstanding game yesterday. He made one good save from the free kick and that's about it, the other two saves he made you expect a keeper to make (the Rushford shot was one for the cameras). We didn't create enough chances yesterday that was the problem. We didn't have a single shot on target until the second half!

Agree with this. I'd expect all keepers in PL to save the shots we had yesterday (Rashford's fk included).

Only watched the MOTD highlights, same shit, different game. Everton on Tuesday is going to be a real hoot to watch I'm sure. I'm not entirely giving up on top 4 just yet.

I don't see any need to panic or criticise the team much tbh. We came up against a team that parked the bus from start to finish. We missed Zlatan a lot, not just because we are really reliant on him but moreso against this type of opposition we needed a real aerial threat in the box to try and take on their three mammoth CB's. We also missed Pogba, Herrera and Mata for this type of match. There is no need to criticise Joes or many of the players tbh. I know we didn't create many chances compared to previous home draws but West Brom are a top notch defensive unit. It's moreso disappointing to again not be making ground on the top 4 but that's the only problem I had with yesterday.

What's amazing about us is our consistency to be consistently predictable. 8 draws in 15 home matches proves there is a very big and very real problem with our attacking players.

Listening to 606 on 5 Live, you'd have thought Jose had assassinated the Pope and slept with a married Royal! The pathetic righteousness of Jason (who the hell?) and Savage was utterly pathetic; stoked by a moronic dipper who called in and preferred to talk about this than Liverpool's win. I honestly think Jose did not understand the original question and was then flabbergasted by it. I didn't think he was rude or condescending, let alone insulting. Why oh why do 5Live feel the need to have Savage there as some sot of clickbait. Bring back Alan Green who is a proper journalist.

As for the game, like others I could only take what MoTM gave us and imagine those truly were the highlights. Pretty grim but I've given up commenting on our lack of cutting edge and of saying, Lingaard's all-round game isn't good enough

Tbf to Jose it was a fecking awful question. How did he think Jose would have thought it was a match where two teams cancelled each other out just by him smiling beside Pulis. :wenger:

Not just that, 42 goals in 28 games is pretty dreadful. Especially considering the other top 7 teams have scored at least 10 more goals, plus Liverpool scored a whopping 22 goals more. That's like a whole Ibrahimovic!

I'm not sure if I do want us to get a top four slot. Not with the current team anyway. We aren't going to win the Champions League anyway, so what's the point? We are light years beyond the top teams in our league, let alone Europe. Don't give me that money bullshit either. We have spunked millions down the drain and all we have done is regress. I still think that we have a nucleus of a good team but under Jose they just aren't cutting it. If we don't start next season with a bang then he has to go. Winning the Europa League will only mask our deficiencies. Next season will be critical for United. Another poor league campaign and I can see us anchored as a purely mid table side. How the mighty have fallen!

It was definitely a loaded question knowing José is prone to reacting in interviews so close to a poor result. Yes he was frustrated, prob with himself and our forwards more so than West Brom's tactics or any match officials.

That's ridiculous, where do we go after that? We can't just keep going though mangagers like there's no tomorrow.

Also once the season has started it will be rather difficult plucking this world class manager out of nowhere to replace Jose. This just isn't his side. I think he wants to make even more changes to bring more character and fight into it.

Agreed, if this time next year we haven't seen any improvements I'll be a bit more concerned but as of now, I trust Mourinho to take us forward.

We laugh at other managers not having a plan B, but Jose is also as bad. Playing a team with no attacking intent, and we still play with 6 players with defensive duties. Then, we make a sub of one attacker for another, just doesn't do it for me. Not sure why Young was not moved forward to Left wing, Martial and Rashford told to get in the box and pull the defenders all over the place. In the end we had Rashford playing like Rooney, coming into the midfield to get the ball, so no one in the box. Could even have tried Blind for Carrick, as Carrick's passing wasn't happening. Lost opportunity again.

I think that this criticism of managers is overblown anyway. If the opposition has parked the bus and is very organized in defence, there's only so much a manager can do.

We don't have any proper wingers - I think this is partly the reason for our 3-5-1-1 formation recently. Martial isn't good enough on the wing, nor is he really good enough up front. Rashford too. Certainly with the way we're playing. But it's hard to see where we're going to get these proper, top quality wingers from, as it's something we have persisted with for years despite not having the personnel.

Maybay the intelligent thing to do then is to change to a system without wingers.

Watching a re-run of this game. I thought the performance replicated LvG's team. On second thoughts the players on the pitch were basically the same as last season besides Bailly, and Micki.

Our forwards are all dumb bastards, how often does the ball go across the front of goal and they all just stand there waiting for the cut back.

The amount of times these guys would have tap ins if they fecking moved.

I didnt even watch the match, but I get what youre saying. There are certain things that happen and yet our players dont react

Like last season when Blind and Mata would do the short corner routine, and nobody would actually move for the tap in.
Or when Young gets the ball on the left, you know hes gonna cut it onto his right and cross it back post, yet except Fellaini our players just stand.

Or when somebody goes to the byline, our players stand behind defenders or try go backpost when a run across the defender to the near post would get you a goal.

Actually, we miss Chicharito a lot cos his movement was always clever for that stuff in the box.

Its simple to fix. Were playing 5 forwards who (lets be kind and say at this present time) aint good enough or consistent enough. We need to spunk the transfer money on wc or top class strikers, and forget the defence. We cant go into the new season hoping Martial Lingard Rashford Mata and Miki will all of a sudden turn into the likes of Yorke Cole Sherringham RVN and Solskjaer, as I cant see it happening. Martial and Rashford although young are not that special when compared to other players their age around the world. Lingard and Miki are up and down in their play all the while, and there are better options out there, and although Mata is the second highest scorer he has only scored 6 in all competitions, and is getting worse every year.

Just like
He only turns around 3-4 times a season against semi-decent opponents, subbing him on lately is just giving us a handicap.

Just like Martial then.

You can't get mad or upset, the result was just too predictable by this point even prior the game. When you saw next home game, West Brom, we all cringed, we knew what the game would be like, how West Brom would set up and the eventuality of 0-0 before the match even kicked off ffs.

As pissed off as I am about this season you can see it wouldn't take too much to turn some of these home draws into wins next season with a few clever additions, all we can do now is just be patient and don't stress.
Thats how it feels to me at this point anyhow.

The problem is that since Fergie nobody has cracked the problem of the way visiting teams set out their stall. Mid-to-low table sides are generally pleased to walk away with a point. It is almost a copper-bottomed certainty that is how it will be. If you know this to be the case then why can't we come up with the solution?

I say in those cases we should play the first 5 minutes like we would play the last 5 if we were chasing the game. Come straight out of the blocks and go for broke for an early goal. That changes the pattern immediately. The more patient we are in games like these the more the opposition gets bedded in, and the outcome is inevitable.

I feel we have suited our game so much towards Zlatan, that when he doesn't play, we find it difficult to adapt.

Ref was terrible as usual, which doesn't help matters..

We are atrocious. Another draw at home. I dont even enjoy watching us anymore. Granted we had injuries but the players coming in are no where near good enough. We need strikers, cm's, cb's despite pumping in miliions and millions.

Shocking performance, hard to watch it was that dull, anyone who thinks Rashford deserves to be starting up front is clueless, yes 19 years of age and will come good but no goals in the league since September, he has pace but being honest thats about it at the minute, if that was Rooney he would be hung up from a tree!

The front four were shocking, no movement no pace no attacking intelligence, would not be surprised to see a new striker and big time winger in the summer, at the very least!

Might be being harsh on Rashford but at the point of not caring, he is just not doing enough in games and his finishing has been woeful, good free kick but that was it and we had all the ball, all about that Europa now, that needs winning!

Yes, really good point.

I actually enjoyed watching us play. I thought we played some very good football.

Having so many key players missing, it was always going to be a tough one. I fully expected a draw and actually half expected a potential loss considering our trend of results at home.

1 point gained (glass half full), 2 points lost (glass half empty), we move on to the next match!

edit: ps: I did think the sub of bringing Rooney on for Mkhi a strange one. We're chasing a win and in my opinion (i'm no expert here, just my humble opinion), we might have done better with bringing off either Carrick or Fellaini. That's what I thought when we made the sub. Hindsight is always 20/20. We could always have ended up conceding if we brought one of those two off and end up losing the game in the later stages.

Still gutted about the West Brom result.

If we don't get top 4 this season, will we lose out on the extra Adidas money, or was that last season?

I also wonder if we'd have to actually get top 4 to get this money, or if qualifying for the Champions League through winning the Europa League will be sufficient.

I think it's this season mate we lose it if we don't reach it and it wont matter if its through the league or Europa, applies to both as long as were in it, rather Europa route anyway as no play off game in July plus we get to play the Super Cup in Monaco, another potential trophy to add to the list

Cheers, that Adidas money can go a long way this summer, so here's hoping we qualify for the Champions League one way or another!

Gutted that big chance for Rashford as a no 9 - wasted. All those love about 19 yrs old and one of our own also means that we expect him to step up and grab the chances when given.

No shorts on target till 60th min against WBA at home is just a wrong reflection of consistency from him / mikhi / martial.

Finally he's called out in our underperforming forwards. He's basically said what us fans have been saying which is apart from Ibra, none of our forwards have been good enough in front of goal this season. It's simply not acceptable whether you are a 19 year old or a 40 year old - if you're a forward your finishing should be your bread and butter.
