Post-match discussion

I don't blame it completely on Mourinho. The main concern is the mind numbing reliance on Zlatan and then posters on here blaming him for our poor results. We are fecked without him. Top 4 is gone. EL is our only hope. I say it's time to put all our eggs in that basket.

It was Jose's decision to buy Zlatan, whom I like, and make the sole focus of our goals. Our finishing has been poor throughout the entire team and he looks on the way to ruining Martial.

The forum is going to be bombarded with posts about 'we need to sign player X and we need to sign player Y' and I'm honestly sick of it, I've been for some time. Klopp took the squad that was given to him, with minimal outlay on signings, and is in a better position ATM than we are. I want a manager who can manage the squad, not spunk 100 million on one or two players and then pat himself on the back about great he is. Woodward shares in this blame.

Rooney for Mkh was puzzling, and as expected he offered nothing. Jose too afraid to even make all 3 subs, at least make them to try and add a spark to the team. Rashford and Martial's steps backwards are worrying.

Who exaclty would you have brought on? We had nothing for the attack anymore.

The problem with Martial, Lingard and Rashford is that they all love coming short instead of running into space off the ball. Let Micky come short and the rest make runs to receive it. It's all to feet all the time.

The least they could have done was try to mix up their crossing, with no one in the box to provide aerial advantage, try to put low crosses and catch them out. The players seem very one dimensional.

Next year we're supposed to have a go at the title? You're havin a laugh...

Don't tell me Schweinsteiger couldn't have helped in the last part of the game.

Yeah, Blind with pace in the midfield and Fosu-Mensah who's not even a midfielder and vastly inexperienced to play against likes of Fletcher.

Yes, the same blind who can pass accurately and offer more by getting in behind defenders to break them down. Tofu as well.
Anything than the incredibly slow Fellaini who offers nothing other than jogging around and inviting the team to get in inaccurate high balls which are cleared 90% of the time would've helped.

Every time we suffer a disappointing result we get a litany of remarks that 'top 4 is gone'. We're still effectively level with the dippers if we win our games in hand, and city are still only four points ahead of us with tough fixtures coming up.

We were missing some big players today and West Brom are no mugs this season. Frustrating afternoon yes, end of the world no.

Top 4 is not gone.

Jose needs to rethink his attacking approach. Zero creativity. Surely also down to the players but still.

This. Rashford was coming into the middle of the pitch to receive the ball and there was no one up top.

Frustrating, but that's what you get with a Pullis team.

Foster played v.well again. two cracking saves from Rashford. One save of the season contender. I think we were unlucky, but we roll on.

Chin up. Thought the young lads played well.

He could have entered for someone else, but I think Mourinho was trying to protect Mkhitaryan.

Now it might because I'm two reefers deep and chill like a watermelon but.... hear me out...that was not too bad.

WBA decided to offer nothing all game long. We had many many absentees and a lack of options. We needed a scrambled goal to open them up, it didn't happen, that's about it.

I can't really fault the players' for effort, from what I saw.

Thought we were missing Herrera in midfield. Literally no movements into space from Fellaini or Carrick, the two wingers always need to drift inside to get to the ball.

All teams outside the top 4 come to Old Trafford to defend. We should know what to expect and how to find a way through these teams.
The end result is that we don't, we're not good enough and basically deserve to be where we are, we've had more than enough chances at home to be fighting with Chelsea for the title but we're lacking in quality i'm afraid.

I'm afraid that if you're for whatever reason rating Blind's pace then you are either arguing for the sake of not playing Fellaini (with an idiotic argument, mind you) or just haven't watched many of our games.

With a midfield of Carrick and Fellaini you can hardly blame them. There was no midfield at all. They can lead the line, they just need supply and support from teammates running up.

Well, I would suggest even with the Fro and Carrick we still should had enough today. We dominated midfield today and even Fellani had time to pass the ball around but it's not his fault that he doesn't have the cutting edge in his passing. Well I guess that's why Pogba and Herrera play every game when they are healthy or available. WBA is hard to break down but if you watched today's game it was like LVG ball all over again.

I'm a Mou fan and say we stick with him but today's performance reflected poorly on his tactics. We didn't use our speed at all.

Looking at the bigger picture, the post-fergie transition had gone worse than any of us could have anticipated.

The Glazers' debts fecked us in Fergie's last few years, then we appointed two horrendous managers who bought a load of crap.

Still feel it's too early to tell with Mourinho but fans will turn soon. If we serve up this kind of crap against Everton the discontent will start simmering in the stands.

We need to start next season well that's for sure.

If we're in November and December and we're having to settle for another Top 4 race he's in trouble.

Gutless performance. Most of the team wanted to be stood in tons of space to receive the ball, no-one wanted to play between the lines. Far too many safe passes, nowhere near enough take-ons. Very few moments of quality apart from 2 shots from Rashford that required decent saves.

But but but our fatigued players will come back well rested and stronger after the international break

We're just shit without Zlatan. Playing Young, Rooney, Carrick and Fellaini like it's 2012.

Gonna finish the league with the least amount of losses, but outside the top 4. :wenger: Well still better than K´Lautern, who once managed to draw 18 of 34 Bundesliga games in a season and got relegated.

Lets be honest we at no better under Jose than we were under LVG. And the problems are exactly the same we cannot break down sides who sit deep at Old Trafford.

Poor game, poor result.

Pulis' teams are frustrating but they're effective, it's up to us to beat them and we fell short today. Mkhitaryan, Martial and Rashford were all poor to abysmal. Our fullbacks were poor, they needed to be getting in behind them and stretching the WBA defenders, top class width is drastically missing from United and has been for a while.

Lingard had bright moments but looked about 5 minutes ahead of his attacking team mates at times, Fellaini was man of the match, he bossed the midfield and I thought he did well enough on the ball, Rojo was good at the back again.

Mike Dean was pathetic, he's just not very good. To compound things he added on 5 minutes over the two halves, it's up to him to enforce things when the opposition are time wasting, WBA can do what they like as far as i'm concerned, the referee should be either booking them are adding the time on at the end, Dean did nothing. Not that we would have scored. It was his poor refereeing that resulted in the fracas at the end too, although Rooney's petulance has never been endearing.

But we're a team who can spend that money, why would we want a Wenger when we can have a, well, a Mourinho?

So only Zlatan is allowed to score? I think he had in mind, some others to contribute as well. And here we go with the ruining Martial again. There is no way Martial himself has nothing to do with it.

I'm not just rating Blind for his pace, it's his passing and ability to get in. We need pace in midfield, movement behind defenders and moving the ball faster on ground passes, ie, not air balls that West brom were suited to clear 90% of the time, hell, any team could. Martial and Rashford were the positives, but the midfield let them down.

That argument is hardly as shite as our game was.

We are doing better away from home because away from home the other team attacks. At home, they just sit back with ten men behind the ball, which makes it harder to score. We still should have had enough to score one goal.

There was a point early on the second half where Rashford got the ball just outside the small box and they had about 8/9 men in the small box. Now it thats impossible to score against.

I think we should just forget the league this year and concentrate on the Europa and sign three/four players in the summer. I have faith in Mourinho and next year will be much better.

We had no options off the bench. Miki did nothing today just floated around and offered little penetration. Gambled with Rooney and, not too surprisingly, he offered nothing. But it was a logical move to make at around the 70 min mark.

Jonny Evans would be our best centre half by a mile.
Definitely. I distinctly remember threads discussing that he seemed to suffer most from our rotation while he was at the club and then he goes to WBA and has proven that the theorizers were probably correct.

Johnny Evans never once had that good a game for us, not once.
You must have missed his part in our defensive performances when VDS set the clean sheet record.

The truly sad thing is today wasn't a surprise at all. From about 20 minutes in I knew this would end 0-0, seen this game so many times in the last 3 years. It's not good enough.
