Manchester United 2:3 Nottingham Forest

Post-match discussion

Good start except for the corner goal conceded. Later on we got more disjointed.

I believe Amorim‘s system is going to work for us. Same as with Ten Hag, the players are letting him down.

At this point I don't care. Onana cannot be trusted and in that position, you need someone you can trust.
He had first bad match this season. There are not many keepers who play entire season perfectly, especially in a team that sits at the bottom half of a league. De Gea certainly was not one of those perfect keepers, he would have 2-3 horrible games even in seasons he was player of the season.

ETH has really been our biggest mistake in recent history. All the money totally wasted on Ajax players who isn’t good enough. The players are not better then this, we will not be in the top 4 with Bruno and Rashford unfortunately

Basic 2nd half stats

Goals - United 1 Forest 2
Shots on goal - United 10 Forest 5
Shots on target - United 3 Forest 2
Passes - United 298 Forest 127

That third goal. Yikes. How did Onana, De Ligt and Martinez contrive to not clear that off the line.

Not a Forest player in sight. Someone, please, for the love of God, take responsibility and clear it!

Perhaps the most disappointing thing is we didn't even look like scoring an equaliser in the last half hour.

My sadness comes from the fact that I am past being upset about our defeats, not the defeats themselves. The way our campaign is going, the only defeats that I reckon will hurt me for the rest of it will be when we lose to Liverpool at Anfield and get knocked out of the EL if, and it’s a big if, we reach at least the semi finals.

At this point, I just want to give Ruben time. However many times we lose until the season finishes, we, as the fanbase and hence the most powerful faction at the club, should refrain from turning on Ruben. Let him sort out the mess Ten Hag and the Glazers have put us in, and Jim Ratcliffe isn’t doing much about. Let him get rid of players like Rashford who simply do not care about this club anymore, and players who are simply not good enough.

City next week will be a laugh. Won’t be able to watch it, but I can’t imagine how poor the game will be. Both teams’ confidence are shot. I’m sure they’ll win though, as they’ve simply got far more quality than us.

The Keeper is supposed to be in charge there. He calls for it or yells for it to be away

Half of this squad needs to be sold and it is the truth. Antony, Casemiro, Eriksen, Lindeloft, Rashford, Dalot, Shaw, Malacia, Sancho, Bruno, Onana, Mount ( I don't know what does he bring) Hoijund and Garnacho are not starting XI material. Ineos and Amorim has a huge job to move these players out where 50% was bought by ETH.

Our defence had a bad day today, but generally speaking, they're innocent parties.

We have an athleticism issue in the middle of the pitch and a major quality gap at the top of the pitch.

Waiting for Shaw and Malacia, has left us with a horrible situation at left back. Even with a fit shaw, he doesn't have the athleticism to play a left wing back role in this team and we literally don't have a single player who can do this role in our team.

In attack, we have Hojlund, Rashford, Antony, Mount, Garnacho and Zirkzee. At various stages our fanbase thought Garnacho and Rashford were good due to some output, but they're general play never reflected the reality. Our attack is poor, and the lack of skill is being exposed in a major way. Outside of speed and the confidence to take people on, neither Rashford or Garnacho have the quality to drive an attack; and for a club looking to control games, their inability to dribble, combine, pass, play through tight spaces and finish consistently is really hurting us. In this 343, the front 3 need to be able to combine together to manufacture chances, but due to the lack of quality we have, we're exclusively depending on Bruno magic moments or Amad runs for attacking success. Add this to nothing coming from the left flank and you can see why our attack is so impotent.

True, but I’d have been happy for any of the three to take charge. Maybe the slow motion replay is deceiving, just looks like either one of them could have kept it out.

Amorim is realising he is going to have to work really hard to polish that turd.

Is Garnacho an idiot? He's just got into the changing room!

Yes. I hate to admit this. Ten Haag was a terrible fit for the Premier League, but the issues he had with some players were legitimate, Garnacho being one of them. The problem for United, is that as a club, we hide behind our youth culture to protect rubbish. The last few years should have taught us one valuable lesson which Fergie made quite clear, as a youngster you have to be good enough. The same Fergie who brought through Giggs, Scholes, Nev, Becks and Butt, also sold Greening and Savage. The same manager sold Bellion and didn't really develop in youngsters from within the club's academy after Darren Fletcher. A developing youngster should never be an excuse not to go into the market.

True true. We are just so fragile when things aren’t going our way.

There were short stretches in the first half where we actually looked pretty dangerous.

I wonder if Amorim has come to fully appreciate the task he has ahead of him yet.

I did too. Very disappointing.

The truth....I don't think we are that bad. I think the defence's gap came from the current rotations which we've been having ( which is justified). Normally, I don't think Onana is that bad or the defence is that disorganized.

Usually our defenders cover for the impotency of our attack. Today, when the defence needed covering, our attack continued their pattern of being poor. Hence, the loss

We're broke, largely thanks to Ten Hag, so he can't really complain about us not going into the market

All at sea first 20 minutes of second half most of the back 5. Yoro and Martinez consistently got the distances wrong whilst Dalot was defending the wing like a wingback in a 4. Rather than pouncing in and directly harassing anyone attempting to cross. To top it all this was the day Onana finally had a bad day at the office.

Things will improve though. They are still learning a new way and it isn't even a month yet.

You are truly unserious. Was the manager in charge of the cheque book or the Glazers with their idiot negotiators?
You're right, he had zero knowledge of how much his targets would cost and he couldn't have predicted how they'd perform at United because he'd never worked with any of them before. Completely absolved of blame.

These players do not truly want to win and are not truly prepared to make the sacrifices to win. They pretend to want to win. They want to make their individual stats to avoid being roasted at training. But they do not truly try to win.

I repeat. Is it he who negotiated 80m for antony. 60m for Mount. Or the Glazers and their negotiators?

We are far too pedestrian in the build up. Infuriating to watch.

Watching De Ligt with the ball at his feet is like watching grass grow.

Onana is completely useless. Makes far more howlers than decent saves.

Dalot is impotent in attack and has no redeeming qualities.

Mainoo has gone into his shell this season.

Hojlund is not good enough to lead the line. Even Chris Wood looked better than him today.

What is the point of Mount? He has brought nothing to the team.

Rashy made 0 impact and the sooner we get his wages off the accounts the better.

Nottingham were just here to waste time today after getting their quick fire goal. They didn’t test the keeper at all apart from their weak attempts at goal which we should’ve kept out.

Amorim really needs to give the squad both barrels. Simply not good enough.
Chris Wood did nothing for Forest really except score. Same as Rasmus. He was not as effective as you think. De Ligt and Maguire bullied him aerially.

He continued to push for them knowing we would pay that price.

Can't have your cake and eat it.
Bullshit. There is literally no serious controller of purse strings who pays 80m for Antony and 60m for a year left Mount. 70m for an 11 games Hoijlund. To try to pretend that level of incompetence was down to "manegerial pressure" is criminal.

One just has to take a look at what INEOS did to buy even higher quality to get it. In one window in which they started work late.

Our clubs is broke thanks to years of Glazer market incompetence. Not any single manager.

You are truly unserious. Was the manager in charge of the cheque book or the Glazers with their idiot negotiators?
Managers don't set transfer fees or how much money any player should get in weekly wages.

Glazers and those they put in charge of transfers and players contracts has United in the debt they are in.

Jim and Co have yet to convince, charging loyal supporters including OAPS 66 sterling for remaining home games isn't the way to address things.

Mainoo Rasmus Yoro Amad Maz. We have some good players. Martinez and Dalot have been absolute garbage this season, Bruno was poor again. Amorim needs to fraud check the squad and add some fecking balls to these eunuchs.

Hojlund is average at best. Yoro hasn’t even played a 90 minute game for us. Mainoo still have some very poor performances, he was hiding today.

The squad is terrible.

That result was hard to take.

But, and I know not many on here share this opinion, I feel like I can see something.

There’s an idea at least. We’re better at getting the ball forward. Final third is still poor but improving.

We were the better team.

You just can’t legislate for stupid errors like that. Martinez * 2 and Onana * 2. Plus Bruno for the Gibbs White goal as well.

Thought Rashford was decent so that's a positive I suppose. Bruno sub was odd, did Ruben say anything about it?
He wasn't bad but he wasn't good either. Had some good moments and some bad moments. So he was average.

That's if one wants to be objective about it and not scapegoat him.

You're right, he had zero knowledge of how much his targets would cost and he couldn't have predicted how they'd perform at United because he'd never worked with any of them before. Completely absolved of blame.
I think the point is that the structure in place was (hopefully not now) awful. ETH would have identified those players but the club should have said no as soon as those prices were quoted.

We can't play a perfect consistent 90 minutes of winning football against premier league opposition.

Its just something we aren't capable of doing ever since Fergie retired.

Maybe I was too harsh on Ten Hag?
No. 80% of these players are his signings or academy promotions. There are only 7 players who don't fit that description being Maguire, Amad, Rashford, Shaw, Dalot, Lindelof and Bruno.

The result doesnt tell the story of the game, we looked better than we did against Arsenal but the attack was clueless at times and the Forest goals all came from poor defensive errors.

With the chances we created we should have had 4 or 5 goals and a decent striker would have had a hattrick at least from the chances we made for Hojlund in this match.

It shows how far we have fallen when we were the home team and Morgan Gibbs-White is on the tv saying Forest are disappointed to have conceeded 2 goals.
What are you talking about? Hojlund had only 2 shots this game and scored from one of them. I do think that he could have done better with making different runs than he did but he didn't waste chances.

not sure what to make of that game.

Structurally we were good I thought and we played some decent stuff in first half. Didn't defend great for that early goal but we responded well.

As usual final ball/shot letting us down.

The second half started disastrously. Still can't get my head around the errors in judgement from Onana and Martinez. They are uncharacteristic so we can forgive that.

Like the first half we just lacked quality to create and score again.

I seem to come away each game feeling Ugarte, Diallo and Mazroui are our main consistent performers. Thought Hojlund did ok and Mainoo decent as second half progressed after a very quiet first hour.

Just letting him start the season was enough to signal to everyone that the season doesn't really matter. So it's no surprise morale is at rock bottom.

Yeah I still can't wrap my head around how he survived last season when it was obvious he and his tactics were the main problem. We were pretty crap today but still looked better coached by a guy who's been here for 2 weeks.
