Manchester United 2:3 Nottingham Forest

Post-match discussion

We used to have a lot of very good players but poor managers and poor tactics. Now I feel we have some tactics and good manager, but we have almost no good players.

We rotated a lot. I hope that results in us having fewer injuries over the season.

Dalot needs to get binned. Why aren't we trying Antony as LWB?

On paper, I thought that was close to our best line-up. In reality, it was a complete shitshow.

Utterly dismal. Ten Hag's crappy 'recruitment' has set us back years but no manager can legislate for the brain dead stupidity of some of that second half.

Amorim has a huge job on his hands. So many of these players shouldn't be anywhere near a Manchester United shirt.

The result doesnt tell the story of the game, we looked better than we did against Arsenal but the attack was clueless at times and the Forest goals all came from poor defensive errors.

With the chances we created we should have had 4 or 5 goals and a decent striker would have had a hattrick at least from the chances we made for Hojlund in this match.

It shows how far we have fallen when we were the home team and Morgan Gibbs-White is on the tv saying Forest are disappointed to have conceeded 2 goals.

Going to be a long season, hopefully we can get a couple in in January, left wing back is a necessity, somebody decent to play alongside Ugarte.

Half of this squad needs to be sold and it is the truth. Antony, Casemiro, Eriksen, Lindeloft, Rashford, Dalot, Shaw, Malacia, Sancho, Bruno, Onana, Mount ( I don't know what does he bring) Hoijund and Garnacho are not starting XI material. Ineos and Amorim has a huge job to move these players out where 50% was bought by ETH.
Yup. It’s the exact same as what we were saying in the second half of the 2021-22 season. It’s an endless cycle. It’s like a nightmare from which one cannot wake up.

Desperate for a decent centre forward, the number of times we got forward down the wings particularly from Amad and nobody in the box to receive.

You can’t walk out at the beginning of both halfs and concede inside 2 minutes. It’s child’s play.

Onana been great this season but that was perhaps his biggest mistake yet

Glad to see Bruno removed. Good goal but outside of that he was terrible. Miss place pass. Hit first man. Miss place pass. Weak in the challenge. Miss place pass. Gift them opportunity for second goal. Hit first man. Miss place pass. Wave arms about. Cry when tackled. Miss place pass. Hit first man. Cry a bit more. Miss place pass

It's not great, but that comment doesn't give the context of Forest being relatively strong this season and us being the opposite. Whilst it's factually correct, you said that like we were playing a team in the relegation zone.

It's annoying, but the likes of us and Spurs have dropped another level, while a lot of teams in league that we feel entitled to turn up and beat have become a lot better. It's not an easy league at all now and there will be more results like this along the road.
True. They have indeed been flying high this season. The optimist in me says that this is just a learning curve. And I really hope that it just is. I hope that we can look back upon this ultimately as a blip.

Also the officials can once again feck off. They kill the momentum in the game due to their shite technology then have the nerve to only add 7 minutes on at the end when there was clearly more stoppage time than that and the ref blows on exactly 97. Pricks the lot of them.
We could have played till Christmas without scoring. 2-3 minutes extra would not have made any difference

The recruitment has got beyond terrible. It’s nearly a 100% hit on flops. Even in the Summer I was thinking surely we change it round but wow, Zirkzee wouldn’t start for Forest.

Absolute braindead players. All of them.

Garnacho needs to sit on the bench for couple weeks and Dalot was blown up after 30 minutes.

At half time we had 73% possession and limited them to one shot on target, the header that went in.

Having equalised and completely dominated we were looking strong and likely to go on and win it. How the second half went the way it did I’ll never know.

Despite the disarray, they were such soft goals to concede. Forest had three shots on target the whole game, they all went in with our keeper making a grand total of zero saves.

Credit to Forest, from the off they looked like beasts ready to exploit us. Possession can only do so much and we've been dismantled by much fitter and stronger players.

We're too busy making the game look very difficult.

So many things to pick upon and you chose to complain about the ref. Give this set of players another half they won’t win
I've complained about the team but that doesn't mean I can't complain about the officials being incompetent at their jobs.

What Onana did today was unforgivable and it should be the last straw. I'd immediately make Bayindir first choice till the end of the season no matter what happens. I'd transfer list Onana in January and sign a keeper in the summer. Enough is enough.
He’s probably been a top 3 performer this season. Today was possibly his worst mistake yet…even including last year…but he’s been very good for us so far this season.

That’s the thing. If it was a one off we could write it off. But this team has been giving up soft, inexplicable goals consistently for the last couple years. There is a mindset problem. Players switch off too easily and at important junctures.

The issue wasn't the formation, or the structure. The structure :-

Allowed Dalot to get the ball in a lot of space very often
Allowed passing options for every player in every phase
Allowed for plenty of numbers in defensive transition
Allowed for options for Rasmus to play off

The issue was the players and them continually making very, very basic passing mistakes and decisions that all professional players at this level should be required to be able to achieve consistently. No matter how much beneficial framework you place around them, if they can't accurately make 5-10 yard passes without turning them into throw-ins, corners and counter-attacks, you are doomed.
Agree with all of this.

He was a major problem. Look at the squad and see how many of those players are his signings. Now, think about how much he spent on some of them? Because we sure as he'll can't spend our way out of this due to him.
not trying to defend ETH. He was not cut out for Premier league but along with him, players that he brought and the old guard needs to be replaced.

Almost as if Ten Hag wasn't the sole problem.
Almost as if he recruited some of the worst players I have ever seen at United and how no plan for how he wanted the team to play resulting in a scattergun approach to the players brought in

There was a moment in stoppage time that made me blow a fuse. Onana got the ball and was bringing it forward, Maguire walks next to him, and then Onana is further up the pitch than Maguire. What is the point of a keeper who can play sweeper and is comfortable going well outside the box when his defenders stick to him like ducklings following after Mama Duck? Onana's one quality is the aforementioned swashbuckling fearlessness outside the box, so move all of the motherfecking defenders fowards so he can play that way.

It’s quite amazing that we still come off second what in terms of fitness and energy nearly every game. All our managers bleat on about it but nothing changes. The players are on their journey and nothing can distract them from their goal (or perpetual mediocrity).

the likes of Mazraoui and Ugarte give me some hope that recruitment in the future will be better

This is how the rest of this season will go.
We'll think it all looks sweet by bashing some sh!t team like Everton or Ruddy Budgewadge FC in the Europa, then we'll lose 2-1 to Palace.

We're basically on hold until we get matey's choice of players in and hope they fit the system, and can be that most rare of players at United - someone who comes in and looks good for more than 6 months.
