Liverpool 2:2 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

I predicted a 3-1 loss after scoring first. Somewhere in a parallel universe, that’s exactly what happened, and some alternate version of me is writing a much angrier post.

Proud of the lads today—some solid performances. Ugarte looked composed, Mainoo showed why he’s the future, and Bruno running with the ball? That was a sight! It’s like he thought, “Maybe I can do this instead of trying a 50-yard Hollywood pass.” And Dalot crossing with his left? Bless him for trying—it’s almost like having a left-back again. Almost.

As for the defense, credit where it’s due: they were actually decent! No heart-stopping moments, no defensive slapstick, and we didn’t concede from a corner for the first time in what feels like forever. Progress!

On another day, Nunez is sent off and we win the game.

Maguire should’ve sealed it for us regardless.

Highly encouraging performance. The signs are there.

I think we've been unlucky with Amorim. As much as we should sign a left wing back, I think our major issues come with our front 3. I think the system demands more quality from the front 3 in an attacking sense. Amad can provide it. I think Bruno shines more as an 8 in this system and doesn't fit either of the 2 10 positions. He can fill in, but not permanently. I think if we had a better more adventurous front 3, we would be a really strong team.

I think over time, with learning the system and some development (mainoo), Mainoo and Bruno can fill that no.8 position. I also feel that with a consistent back 3, the defensive errors that have led to the recent losses will be curbed out. I think we already have a good control of games when not playing Eriksen or Casemiro and I do believe we have the pieces defensively to be solid. I just feel that in attack, Hojlund, Zirkzee, Garnacho, Rashford and Antony require too much handholding for a system that expects creativity and flair from the front 3.
Agree 100%

The second half was particularly thrilling, my heart hasn’t raced like that during a match in quite some time.

Given our current circumstances, I believe most of us would have gladly taken a draw at Anfield before the game began, so we can be satisfied with the result.

You could make the case that Maguire might have secured a third goal for us, but he’s not a striker. It’s hard to place any blame on him for the missed opportunity.

Since the FA cup match against this lot last season?

The only player who remembers a win at Enfield (as a United player) is Evans. Harry could have became a hero.

Good to hear the scouse pundits chuntering on about Trent.
Hopefully this helps derail them.

I'm with Amorim. It was a really good performance but it's annoying how our players can suddenly switch the aggression and intensity on when they feel like it's important enough.

Ugarte plays like that every game tbf, but pretty much everyone else it was night and day.

It's all down to the simple stuff that should be happening every game.

Maybe, but to be fair, I think the team has performed relatively well under Amorim overall. The real issue has been a lack of focus at key moments, leading to sloppy goals conceded. Those mistakes have consistently made it much harder for us to secure wins.

That's fair. I agree we haven't been as bad as the results but we weren't great against wolves and Newcastle.... Let's see if performances pick back up

That proves Amorims tactics work with the right players. It proves some of these players can step up if they try. Good point and if Maguire buries that we would be in 7th heaven

All we need i a prope CF and LWB in that order. Hojlund has showed nothing so far.

I still don’t get XG

Nunez is a bastard cnut, hope he gets taken out like that too in the near future.

Oliver should just get his head kicked in. It's clear that he has no business officiating a game of this magnitude.

Other than that, a very good point and performance. Hope the team can build on from this and get some confidence.

Problem is that 1st 11 is pretty much it, zero options, zero depth and the 1st 11 still needs significant improvement, but yeah the difference today was attitude, and nobody gave away stupid goals

It's a load of bollocks. I don't get it when people use it to argue points about anything.

We missed an open goal, a 1 v1 with the keeper, a free header from 6 yards, and scored twice from good chances.

Use your eyes

1. Maguire was good bar the howler and The Miss
2. to be fair he i not a striker
3. Zirkzee sould have buried it
4. the pass was crap anyway
5. Zirkzee still offers more than Hojlund
6. Licha had some brainfarts before he scored
7. Ugarte MOTM, Bruno, Dalot good
8. NOT De Ligted!
9. Yoro had an important tackle
10. it was fun

I’m happy with the game, and yeah, Anfield’s always been a tough place for us. But I’m not getting carried away. This kind of performance should be the bare minimum for a big club like ours against any of the big six. Honestly, our standards have dropped so much that we’re now just happy to see players giving their all. This shouldn’t feel like a bonus, it’s what they should be doing every single week.
You make a good point.
