PL D FA Premier League

Liverpool 2:2 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Special mention to Bruno, Ugarte, Mainoo and Martinez for a good performance.

Also Think Onana, Maguire and Mazaroui did okay.

It was an entertaining match, especially second half. If this Liverpool side wins PL it Will probably be the worst side to win it in modern history.

That is a bit harsh - but the quality has dropped a lot at the top this season. I don't even think Liverpool are better than they were last season - they are just as good. But City, Arsenal, Villa, Spurs, United are a lot worse

I love the bloke but he doesn’t half talk some shite at times. He’s like a dog with a bone when he gets a stupid take into his head.
I'm not a fan of Sturridge in general, but he knows how to deal with Keane and was spot on today. Make his point sensibly, then just back away when Keane gets all whiney and irrational.

Good game, but it's meaningless really! We were similarly excellent against city in the final last season. We need to start beating the smaller teams, that's where the points are.

Still, very enjoyable and a big relief. Hojlund should be on loan and we should have two proper strikers on the books. He's crap.

That was exactly Amorim's point in his (Nordic) post-match interview. And he's so right.

After the Southampton-game, we will probably be ahead of Spurs....with their +12 GD.

Regardless if its bobbling or not he's right though Maguire should at least be hitting the target.

I do think it was a very tight offside call.
Funnily enough a quick fire chance bobbling at you in the high pressure Anfield cauldron 90mins in made it quite hard for a guy who is very infrequently in such situations!

Yeah I get we need points but it was right to go for a win. We actually expected to get battered today so this was a pleasant surprise but really do need the team to keep doing this. The best way to get rid of the nerves is just to keep working hard and shut everything else out.
Yes. The Arsenal game might be the perfect game to have next in a way, a big game. Sometimes you need another massive game just to keep the levels up, then the confidence will come. Hope it is a good referee.

Love watching Sturridge doing all sorts of gymnastics to avoid saying Liverpool didn't show up

He didn't influence it today, I didn't see any really egregious decisions, maybe the Maguire booking but that was about it, under the current rules that was a handball, blame the rules not the official

I’m going to politely disagree with you for a few reasons. Nunez should have been sent off under the current climate. Nunez looked behind him, saw De Ligt and elbowed him in the face - that’s a red card.

He also let Liverpool get away with a lot of tactical fouls and should have booked Andy Robertson for holding back Amad. Also, United had a penalty shout and there wasn’t even a replay of that.

Oliver’s passive and laissez-faire attitude toward Liverpool players because they were at home, does influence the game and how United players have to approach it even it finished 2-2.

He does have a good work rate and makes decent runs sometimes but have to disagree about holding the ball up well - I think he's absolutely terrible at it, he gets dispossessed a hell of a lot. His first touch needs a lot of work and his composure when finishing leaves quite a bit to be desired. I do feel for him being the lone man at times at a young age with no decent experienced strikers to learn his craft from.
Generally speaking you are correct but he did well today

In his post match interview, Arne Slot claimed Liverpool dominated and had 75% of the game.
According to him, Utd just kicked the ball long and got a bit of luck.

Well done - that's exactly how referees subtly influence games .

Højlund made some great runs today. Bruno wanted Højlund to run against the near post, and Højlund ran against the other post. But who is wrong or right here? Bruno had the chance to pass it to Højlund anyway. Højlund is doing great and the goals are going to come.
Right or wrong, if a striker cannot get on the same page with teammates to score a goal, then he’ll need to either develop or he’ll not score goals. I believe its all about instincts as well.

Then he’s deflecting he’s teams poor performance as we nullified them for the majority of the game. Salah in particular.

That was as well as I can recall us playing at Anfield since the LVG win and Mata double.

Ugarte and Kobe brilliant today Bruno also , well done lads great team performance

Thought we were in for a hammering today but it turns out we should have won. Need to keep up the same attitude in every game. Well done everybody.

In an interview on Danish TV, Peter Schmeichel asks how Amorim experienced having to play away at Anfield, where the atmosphere is intense. Amorim replies that he prefers Old Trafford - it's so much better. Class answer.

And then Amorim says that today it feels like the sun is shining a little.

He really gets us doesnt he

Bruno's post match interview with sky sports is a much watch. Incredible interview, we clearly get the wrong impression about him with his gestures on the pitch because he's so humble and honest that his teammates must appreciate his quality of communication, maybe not during the match, but in general conversation
And so self aware, when he said he finally had a full 90 minute good performance.

Giving Maguire a yellow for a perfect tackle one of many. Amad given a yellow for celebrating too hard after the first goal. Pen for us missed etc..,,
Is that what amads was for?surely salah going back 3 times to celebrate his pen was more over zealous.sat down in between times too

Thought we did enough to have edged that in the end but it wasn't to be. A few players in key positions - striker, wingback - and, dare I say it, we might start to look like a respectable team. Just hope this level of performance continues against the lesser sides.

Seen that kind of penalty not given because of proximity before now (Romero comes to mind), but obviously Utd were never getting away with it.

Would have won if not for Liverpool's ongoing love affair with referees and their determination to screw United at every turn.

Amorim is pissed off. Wondering where has this performance been?

Nunez barged him, not sure he elbowed him and he was booked, VAR should interceded if it was anything more

Amad did get the free kick, if you book every player for every 'holding' infringement it'd be a 3 a side game, it was right at the end so it was meaningless and had no effect on the result, there were plenty of 'tacticals' from United as well

As for the penalty replay, that has bugger all to do with ref, VAR would have looked at it presumably

If you want a target to blame in this game then it should be VAR not the onfiled guy
