He looked annoyed when it's 2-2 as if they have the divine right to always win. I hope he stays there long enough until we have a proper team that will make him look like a tool conceding goal after goal.

I prefer my version. Hhaha.. but yeah, we did give it a go for a win until the last minute. Harry was really good, Ugarte was sometime like a one man midfield warrior. Other impressive player was Amad. In that small body, is hidden explosive power.

I don't think there is a coincidence in that we had a decent game after Amorim had a decent training period and he seems to have his first choice team. Probably need to have a look at CF and LB - although Dalot had one of jus better games ( was actually putting in crosses with his left foot).
Watched a few videos on the tactics deployed in the game. Dalot was able to take advantage of the fact that Salah doesn't run back to defend, leaving that side more exposed. Good that Dalot and Bruno took advantage of it.

I didn't watch it live, I've since watched it, I thought imo we should or could have won that, silly pen , but it's those they get at Anfield, De ligt needs to stay on his feet Gapko doesn't turn him ! Otherwise it was overall a great performance, 100% better than the last 4 games .
It's pointless getting excited over it as the normal guys may turn up again on Sunday at Arsenal?. I'm hoping not as one utd fan told me before he went to watch them v Toon we have to turn a corner sometime! Maybe this game was it.

Both goals was silly mistakes from De Ligt. We need to cut out the mistakes from the defenders especially Martinez, Dalot, De Ligt and Onana. Once they get used to Amorim system hopefully the mistakes could be minimised. As of now, we have silly individual mistakes every game from the defenders

The penalty wasn't De Ligt's fault, just shit / biased refereeing/VAR. Obviously the Gakpo one is on him but Gakpo also took it beautifully, it can happen. Either way, good to have Yoro pushing for a place behind him.

Irrespective of the result I might add it was genuinely the most fun I've had watching a united game for a very very long time, and a cracking game of football overall even for the unaffiliated.

Been a long time seeing us go toe to toe with the best of the world and to do it on home turf of who might be the very best at the moment was a treat.

To be fair he was up against TAA...
I'd agree and people have been saying his head wasn't right etc, but he's never been a good defender, when he has to defend a lot in a game he's found out that's always been same , Rashford ruined him few years ago as well.

He does not get picked for England either, I don't think he had a bad game he's just not good at defending and Bruno and Dalot took advantage of it .

Come on, it wasn't shit or biased refereeing. De Ligt made a mistake. We can't watch our player stick his arm up over his shoulder and away from his body, blocking the path of the ball to the goal and then moan when the ref/VAR gives a penalty for it.

We're no better than Liverpool fans if we come out with that nonsense.

I agree that it was a penalty, but look at the one in the game the following day when it was deemed "too close for him to get out of the way" and he was about twice the distance as De Ligt was. Make it make sense.

To be honest, I've given up on trying to make sense of penalty calls this season, it's worse than ever. Almost every week there are inexplicable decisions, and there's no consistency to it. It happens to everyone though, not just us.

Well, I think the defenders need to do the basic when defending in the penalty box by not extending the arms so far out from the body in order to eliminate any possibility for the referee to make the penalty call. IMO, it was a very soft penalty but it could easily go the other way

It was utter fecking shite. Rebound from point blank in to his arm, ref doesn't give it but VAR then seems it a clear and obvious error and weak ref then overturns it? Utter fecking nonsense.

De lit was bamboozled. Probably lost his focus for a split second and found himself looking for the ball. He turned around the wrong way.

It was an obvious penalty what the feck are you on about. He stopped a goal with his arm, how much clearer can it get.

Exactly , this narrative that is developing here that everything is a conspiracy against us is getting tiresome, and a real small time club mentality that is creeping in. We used to laugh at opposing fans when they acted like this.

Wasn’t just De Ligt on the first one. Ugarte left his position on the right to go back to his central position leaving Gakpo free space to run into. That was the larger mistake.

In the second scenario the players arm were near enough by his side and not above his shoulder height, there’s a pretty big distinction between the two.

That lino should have been shot, cheating bell end. What is the point of the guy if he can't call that?
Robertson then kicked the ball away but wasn't booked. So poor.

It won't be that long until linesmen are replaced by robots running the line.Bring it on.

I haven't seen the other one so can't comment fairly on that. My opinion on the De Ligt one was that it was more about the position than the distance...if he's got his hand low enough that it can be considered 'a natural position', he probably gets away with it as it's such close range...can't be waving your hand about in the air like a keeper though and feel hard done by when a penalty is given.

I don't think the distance saves him on this one. If his arm is lower, he probably gets away with it due to it being so close. He's waving his arm about in the air above his shoulder like a keeper making a save though, and blocks the path of the ball as a result. You're not often going to avoid conceding a penalty for that, regardless of the distance.

Exactly and another detail, for all the complains, the ref didn't even call it if it weren't for VAR and that would have been a real controversy.

But we don’t have controversy at Anfield. Just play it safe and give advantage Liverpool. History is overwhelming.

Disagree. As a CB defending so close to the goal, he should stay on his feet unless he was absolutely sure that he will get to the ball first when he slide tackle or at the very least close to winning the ball.

He was nowhere close to the ball and that was a silly sliding tackle 6 yards from your goal.

His penalty was even more silly. Waving your arms so high in the air when defending in the penalty box.

I’m not saying he didn’t play his part, just saying the goal wasn’t just on him. It was clearly also on Ugarte who left the gap for Gakpo to run into - if he doesn’t do that De Ligt doesn’t even have to slide in in the first place.

There is too much talk about mistakes in defense, yet the rival's play too, the pass and even more the play by Gakpo was top notch.

I dunno why currently fans are so nitpicking on defenders having to be perfect on every tackle, anticipation, etc, like if it weren't since the beggining of the game a sport where the more skill ones would always have an advantage to pull sthg due to their talent and like if being tire do not mess up decisions or actions.

It's a game of deceit, it's normal that defenders would be beaten, there is an excess of over thinking, critics etc...like if in their time Maldini, Baresi and company never made a bad decision, were simply beaten by the talent or the rival or were merely tired at the precise moment of a certain action.

The things that I think we must put more focus are in the attitude, the non forced silly mistakes if those become too repetitive, the squemes that might perjudicate the atributes of certain players, the lack of understanding between players, no matter how talented or not they are. Finding couples all over the pitch for a team it's essential for any great team that ever existed.
