PL W FA Premier League

Manchester United 3:2 Ipswich Town

Post-match discussion

Wed, 26 February 2025

That should be enough to stave off any realistic chance of relegation. The 3 promoted sides are just too bad. The difference in class between PL and Championship is massive and getting bigger every year.

Only watched 2nd half (and few minutes towards the end of first) and that was enjoyable given circumstances. We rarely win these days (especially at Old Trafford) and to win it in 2nd half with man down is really great.

33 points, 16 above Ipswich. Not saying we're staying up but that was big step towards safety.

To get 3 points with 10 men is always commendable.

If any other team does it! they would be praised all week, yet it’s United so no doubt it will be written up as another embarrassing night.

But feck it! well done Bruno and well done United! We Are Staying Up!

Interesting game, bad against worse. At the end of the day, we earned the result by fighting but my word, it was a tough watch, even at 11v11. We certainly have seen, why both teams sit where they sit in the table. On the good side: Yoro with a great and suprisingly assetive performance. The team was able to make use of set pieces and against Ipswich we looked quite decent defensively, make of that what you will. The result hopefully calms the mood down, the performance probably can't.

The real highlight though was the sequence of play where Bruno flew into a tackle, missing the man, the commentator screamed and then Case smashed into that tackle and Dalot came over and chest bumped him.

Pleased with the win given the circumstances.

Was looking like a decent night prior to the sending off and the second gift of a goal to them. The 2nd half was the usual tough watch, but credit to them for battling through and winning it with 10 men.

A positive result, but a couple of worrying issues. No Dorgu now for 3 games, most worryingly the FA Cup match. That's a big loss for balance with all of our other left footers out as well.

And, of course, the ongoing Onana issue. Yet another terrible showing, in what's definitely another 'must upgrade' priority area of the pitch for us. At least this time it didn't end up costing us any points.

Big win in spite of Onana, he's terrible you just never know what he's going to do.We desperately needed the 3pts and who cares if it's only Ipswich, 11 men we win that comfortably, not that it matters we won anyway.

Showed grit I guess. And stood up the bully attitude Ipswich seem to have. 3 points, should be enough to stay up hahaha never in doubt about that.

First PL win in a month ! Enjoy, the wait for the next can be even longer.
Okay. Let’s see. It’s a game where United play to the level of the opposition. So maybe we ll scrap a few more.

Dire days but not the time to speak about that.

Really good attitude and commitment shown, really given how bad Ipswich are it could have been a 3/4 goal comfortable win to build some confidence but the manner of the win tonight also works for that.

Great win. Onana did his best to throw away the points again. Dorgu unlucky with that challenge, his foot was sliding off the ball - but was a bright spark before that. Great in-game management by Amorim, something he's shown time and time again. Managed the players well through HT and didn't let heads drop. Onwards to beating Fulham.

Should play every game with 10 men. We found a way to nick a win

YESSS! Huge win to surely put to bed any lingering fears of relegation. Solid defensive display in that second half, albeit against relatively poor opposition. If someone had said we’d win after the red card and their equaliser right on half time, we’d all be delighted!

A calamity first goal to concede inside a few minutes, after that i thought we controlled the game and played well and fought back to 2-1 up with bruno set piece balls on point.
The sending off changed the game, Ipswich can play a bit but are mainly toothless up front bar our gift goals. I only recall one save by Onana.
Much needed 3 points. Dorgu will be a miss for 3 games

Poor match, but take the win. Onana should never play again. Sooner play Harrison. He can’t do any worse

Showed a lot of character today firstly after the early goal against and then again when down to 10 men. Real dogged performance.

Hope you are right budy. This team is driving me mad.

Genuinely important 3 points

Relegation really shouldn’t be a concern now. Breathing room for Amorim is all what this league season is about and try and spark something in the FA Cup (like against Arse) or in Europa where we have some form. Good to see the passion regardless of the opponent. And winning an entire second half down to 10 against any team in the prem is good going

Onana though, deary me

We can’t keep going on with Onana in goal. He’s costing us a goal every game now, possibly two today

We are struggling in so many areas on the pitch, having a blind clown in goal is not helping. I even think Taibi’s legacy is improvimg because of Onana. Even when we are playimg okay, he fonds away to feck things up to make things harder for us.
Say what you want about De Gea, but of all the terrible things Erik Bin Laden did to the club, bringing Onana in for De Gea was probably the worst thing he ever did.

But after all that shitshow, I’m happybwith the win. We did good coming back from 0-1 down, and managing to get the winning goal with 10 men. Definately not our worst game overall.

3 points, safe from relegation.
Yoro, Bruno, Ugarte, De Ligt, Magnum condom, Zirkzee all did well.
Shame about the red, really no defending it though, we were playing quite nice stuff until then. First Amorim PL game I thought we were looking comfortable.
The VAR thread - there's quite a few saying it was never a red - IMO it's as clear as you get!

Second game in a row where the quality was low, but the spirit was decent. Thin gruel, but it'll do.

If that win doesn't give them a bit of fire for the rest of the season, the players might actually be dead.

Thought we looked best when playing with two strikers up top. Maybe Amorim should try to play 3-4-1-2 instead, considering we have only 1 good 10, and he plays cm.

We are a million miles away from where we want to be but tonight’s game felt a bit different, in a good way. That’s surely the loudest Old Trafford has been in ages right? Plus the players seemed really up for it which is something they haven’t recently.

I think we can kinda park the league now in a way and throw everything we have at the Europa, there’s no reason we can’t win that and it would make a huge difference to us during the summer and going forward.

Other than the two mistakes at the back that led to their two goals, I thought we played well especially being a man down for more than half the game. We showed some character for once and dug deep to pull out the win.

I think we were on for a big scoring win until Dorgu went off.

Loved the fight and spirit of them in the second half. Let's do Fulham now and get ourselves into the cup quarters

The result that probably averts relegation, however, it's a testament to how poor the bottom three are that they couldn't lay a glove on this pish poor United side, reduced to ten men, in the second half.

The truth is that we are an awful side. Poorly coached. Crammed with inadequate players and injury prone hacks. Our goals tonight; an own goal and two from defenders, one of whom the majority want binned off. The "threat" from our strikers is all but non existent.
