Not terrible, he's had a good look at some average players today, and will have seen first hand what we all already know.

Hopefully he'll get Martinez, Yoro, and Mainoo back in soon, and keep Shaw fit.

Up front we look hopeless though, and there is no one to come back in there, so he needs some help in January.

The immaturity of some of the comments here, people need to grow up.
This is a reality check for Amorim to truly see where we are. He’s working with the same players as ETH, but some people expect him to work miracles in a week.
I get it, we were all excited before the game but did we really expect us to turn into a top team overnight.
Positives from the game, Onana was amazing. Our substitutions improved us and I could sort of see a system.
Onwards and upwards.

To everyone that voted to sack Ten Hag..

Allow me to introduce the players who will eventually get Amorim the sack too

You can change managers and systems all you like, but it's so so clear just how low the technical quality of the players is. Absolutely no quality in passing, and we looked physically shot by about the 60th minute.
And no passion.

The problem is the endless roundabout of trying to shoehorn players into the team.

Rashford and Garnacho in particular are not good enough to start. Dalot is terrible at times and Casemiro and Eriksen should never ever play together.

He’ll figure it out, hopefully sooner rather than later.

We were never gonna massively change overnight.

A good coach needs to spend decent time with his squad, to let them learn the patterns of play. Especially as Amorim has different ones (aka ten hag didn’t really have any)

Some players were putting in a good effort, and in the second half we were more in control. Also he’ll have learned a lot on who to play and who to bench.

Would have been great to have won, but at this stage we can actually say “trust the process “

Not great which was to be expected in a totally new system!

We desperately need to get better at keeping sustained possession in the oppositions half.

I feared for this game since Ruben said he was not going to compromise with his ideas to make it easier for the players. It was always going to be a scruffy game. But it was a fair bit worse than i feared even. Yikes. Looked like last seasons EtH football until we shored up the midfield with players with legs. Ruben is not stupid, he will adjust and improve this. Another fit CB is probably high on his wishlist. De Ligt is probably the only fit cb right now that suits this system somewhat
Think if Yorro and Martinez were fit they would have started.

Damning on our forwards that a young Ipswich striker would've most likely improved us.

I'm not expecting huge improvement under Amorim, the squad simply isn't good enough.
This is what I wrote earlier today. The only reason why I'm not really disappointed is because i kept my expectations really low. As long as we have scrap players like Rashford and so on we won't improve significantly. But still. Amorim's first match was bad, partially because of his failed formation. When i saw the formation i thought their wingers will easily outrun our mediocre defense, and i was right. I did not even see our players being being motivated, that was weird. But yeah, even a draw was lucky, thanks Onana for the great saves. I've never seen a 850 million euro squad so awfully bad.

No major positives aside from Onana who's been excellent all season. Would be lying if I said there was any change or improvement whatsoever, but there's not much Amorim can realistically change in such little time. I wish we had an easier fixture run. Think we're likely to drop a lot more points over the next 2 months. Main focus should be on the Europa League since that's the only real hope of CL next season. Hopefully we'll start to see improvement in the new year as I suspect we won't see much until then.

Glass half full reaction: We grew into the game, and the system, as the second half went on. Dominated possession, albeit without creating chances and players seemed to get used to their new roles and some of the new passing angles in build up. Not bad for a week of training in a brand new system against an Ipswich team that is one of the hardest working and most tactically astute in the league.

Glass half empty reaction: We played significantly better than that in the 4 games under Ruud and even the last Erik Ten Hag game against West Ham. Significantly better.

Some of you fans expecting a turnaround straight away.

Chaps had 2 or 3 training sessions with the full squad and already negativity.
I'm sure he will know after today what's needed. He did look worried for most parts of that game so needs time to do it his way.
Some sensible content! Thank you

After all the hype, it was a pretty disappointing game for the team. The performance was poor and we are fortunate to have taken a point from this game. Onana will get MOTM for us as there wasn’t really any other player who stood out.

Amorim will be allowed a small window for trying to instil his ideas. This team has players to come into it and needs more work in the new system, but we really need some performances soon.

Players reverted to type. In one way it might be a blessing in disguise as Ruben can see first hand how poor most of them are. Do a Fergie and blood some youth.

Nothing to raise eyebrown. Expected.

To many average players with 0 character, passion and also talent.

Exactly. Thats why it’s a phrase.
So it means something is as expected? I thought it meant something was a let down, I'd be more let down if a squid wasn't damp. Or maybe we're expecting squids to be extra moist and slimy? Maybe I've not stroked enough squids. All that said, I don't know what a squib is, nor how wet they're supposed to be. I think I might be losing sight of the conversation here, but I do like squids.

Why can we not pass the ball better? Dalot was perhaps the worst of the lot. He will soon lose his place in the starting 11 unless he gets his finger out.

I think we started well. The most visible change was that we were very compact. We didn’t have a gaping hole in midfield for an army to walk through. They still waltz through but that was because we had two players in there with zero mobility.

I am fully prepared to give our new coach time to get this right. As long as he sticks to his plans and ideals, and gets the players that will fit in, I think he can do well here. Hopefully he won’t fall into the trap of changing his ethos to try and suit this sorry bunch.

Dalot is very awkward on the left. He's not as adaptable as Mazraoui. Dalot on the right I bet would have had a solid game.

With a complete change of system during an international break, you can understand how it could be scruffy with players second guessing themselves. Over time, things should get more automatic.
He's going to have to learn about these players quickly though and identify the wasters which we all know.

When a manager has to come out and tell us the players are trying, I can't help but think they would only be saying that if they obviously aren't trying enough.

It was an ok performance. Tempo was a bit slow but its going to take more than a week to get 3 years of ETH's system out of their minds and to fully starts taking in what Amorin wants

Poor first half after an explosive dream start to the game.
Ipswich looked the better team and created several good chances. Their goal was a lucky deflection, it was going over. They could easily have had 2 more but for Onana.

Second half we improved and took control particularly after Rashford and cas were hooked, but that may also be because Ipswich moved into a low block happy with a point.

Amorin had a big job on his hands.

My takeaways:

* Ugarte is needed to make this system work
* Shaw as a wingback with Martinez as an LCB will be better
* Amad can play as a wingback or 10
* We need braver mentality… always backwards. Maybe Mainoo makes a difference in ball progression
* Rashford’s holdup play is dire, Hojlund not much better
* Dalot looked awful and clueless
* CBs need to be more decisive in challenges in the half spaces

Ipswich is a well coached team. They looked very good. I bit lucky to come away with a point.

Some of the comments here are perplexing. We keep saying that we will back the manager if he shows a style of play and one game in people are pining for Ruud because our players didn't magically turn into superior athletes in two weeks.

That was a pretty poor performance to be fair. ETH game at West Ham, he could have been 0-4 up at half time but for poor finishing. Ruud won his game comfortably although at home.
