Well at least he won't be under any illusions about the scale of the job ahead of him...

I can appreciate the reason he chose that starting line up, he generally went with the players he trained with the most, and erred towards experience. But some of those guys let him down big time. We were significantly better in the final 30 minutes, after a few under-performers got pulled.

My main disappointment is that the players couldn't even get themselves to run & press for 45 minutes for a new manager, never mind 90. After about 30 minutes, the entire front line was playing at walking pace. Some of these guys should be on the bench until they work themselves back into the manager's favour - or get sold.

I at least thought the formation was interesting. Once Hojland came on and we had someone running the channels, suddenly we had a lot of space. Unfortunately, before that, no-one could be arsed to run into it (cough-Rashford-cough)

Disappointing overall, but two home games in a week should give Amorim the opportunity to try out a few new line ups.

More and more I think football just isn't for me anymore. Was bored out my mind watching that.

Rashford got his goal but otherwise was pathetic. He did not win one ball today, he has no fight, no grit. I was hoping for some urgency with the new Boss but same old stuff. Hojlund needs to kick on but he would have made us better today.

Onana was awesome. Amad was dangerous.

I am still very excited for the upcoming games, onward and upward as a poster above said.

Have to say we looked better under Ruud. Not sure we have the players for this system. We have a collection of shite players and it's square pegs in round holes.
Ruud understood that he had bunch of crap players and played them according to their strength

My takeaways:

* Ugarte is needed to make this system work
* Shaw as a wingback with Martinez as an LCB will be better
* Amad can play as a wingback or 10
* We need braver mentality… always backwards. Maybe Mainoo makes a difference in ball progression
* Rashford’s holdup play is dire, Hojlund not much better
* Dalot looked awful and clueless
* CBs need to be more decisive in challenges in the half spaces

Ipswich is a well coached team. They looked very good. I bit lucky to come away with a point.
All good points. Add to that, Onana has been massive, and we’ll need our starting CBs soon.

2 things I learned after this game.

1. Players need a lot of help, mentally, to bring out their quality. They started well, and then they caved in inside their old shells, disbelief creeped in, and we became shite again.
2. It's not the manager that pulls the strings, but it's Bruno Fernandes. Would he for once take a fkn break and leave the other players play their game without having the unbearable urge to go and have a fkn whinging comment about what they should have or shouldn't have done with the ball? Above all, get on with YOUR fkn game, make sure you're leading by example before going left and right and whinging about what others should do! Dear me, I would've punched his weasel face if I was wearing the same shirt as him on the pitch this evening. Yes, Bruno was instrumental in Ole's season, he is one of the most creative players, but leave tactics and coaching to the coach, and playing football to yourself. In the national team his ego's not as big and that's why his teammates are unfazed by him and he's doing better in that team.

Amorim has his work cut out, ain't going to lie. They had us in the first two minutes... Believing it will be as easy as a Sunday morning.

Hasn't he said he wants that challenge, to build his team and legacy, not just walk into a ready made team. He definitely hasn't done that.

I love that he was just like "feck all this talking shit, not happening again". I've always thought it was ridiculous that ETH was stood there at a pitch side interview after every match regardless of result.

Why can we not pass the ball better
I think we improved a fair bit when Ugarte and Bruno teamed up in central midfield. Playing two grandads in there was naive at best from Ruben. Just too slow to show options and get out of tricky situations.
Rashford is basically walking around at times, not offering much help either. The players can pass but they need available players on the other end. Having more than 4-5 sessions with the team will help as well.

Ed Sheeran interrupting Amorim's post-match interview the attention seeking twat. I've disliked the guy ever since his unnecessary appearance on Game of Thrones.

Not being argumentative but what style did you see that was different, bar the formation?
Quite a bit actually.

1. The team needs to run back and defend as soon as they lose the ball. Rashford was also coming back into the mid block. We didn’t have the huge gaps in midfield that we generally do.

2. Launch attacks from the wide center backs. Maz had the maximum number of passes but I think he was too safe with it. It will get better with Licha and Yoro. Maz may move back to RWB.

3. Midfield will go through a lot of work in the game but will stay close to each other. The two CMs were always next to each other and close to the ball. We didn’t have many players running by.

4. Channels on the transitions will be our biggest source of threat. The shape allowed us to have so many opportunities to move the ball up through the channels. Only that our midfield and defensive line were not consistent in making those passes.

Mostly, this new system will allow us to start benching some of our underperforming players as well, and give new ones a shot.

By Christmas - I expect that we will have Amass, Mainoo, Ugarte, Bruno, Yoro and Amad as our top players. We will not be so reliant on our selfish wingers (Rashford, Garnacho and Antony).

Didn’t try to attack at all
Yeah so much infuriating lateral play, the one time in the last 10 minutes we had a player run at Ipswich (Amad) it created a chance.

Why in the name of god did we not at least try and go for a winner. Did Amorim have them under instructions to pass the ball from side to side for the entire second half rather than try to get a winner?

Clear that Rashford cant be allowed anywhere near an Amorim team, which was already obvious to anyone who knows Rashford. And that Eriksen, Casemiro and Evans have to be sent to pastures new in the summer, because the physicality needed for a high pressing 343 will be impossible with them.

Dalot and Garnacho are both in horrible slumps which made our left flank impotent. And Zirkzee is a mascot not a footballer.

At least Amad and Mazraoui did well. And Onana continued his revival arc.

Amass? A guy who has been nowhere near it at all? Just as Shaw and Malacia have come back?

He looked frustrated in that interview, but called out the dumbest players that continually give the ball away under no pressure! And I mean zero pressure, with teammate stood 4 yards away! There is literally no team in the PL that does that continuously for 90 min. Quite how he plans to teach these players to do something that gets taught at u7s I don't know?

To everyone that voted to sack Ten Hag..

Allow me to introduce the players who will eventually get Amorim the sack too
As an outsider I think you've got it dead right.

Theres some sort mechanism/culture in place that protects the players over the manager and this is the result.

Along with a fan culture that always wants to sign another 3 star players and savagely turn on them when they inevitably turn into also rans.

Signing the very best available manager around is exactly what's been tried 5(?) times beforehand.

Evans is a given, he's a make up the numbers guy, probably similar with Eriksen.
We might struggle to shift Casemiro as he'll still have one whopping pay year left.
