Everton 2:2 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

I really like Hojlund but it’s clear teams aren’t bothered by him. They know he’ll be isolated for most of his time on the pitch and he doesn’t really have the skills in his locker to take players on.

Defenders just have to stand their ground and he’s not going to get past them.

Bringing Chido and Garnacho on offered more movement and posed a few questions of the Everton defence and had them on the back foot.

I think Bruno’s best use in this United team is in central midfield. A much more progressive outlet for the defenders and took Gaye and Doucoure’s influence out of the game.

This kind of shows that this team of players can play and pegged the opposition back if they want to. Why they can’t seem to do it for the whole game i do not know

Come on, even for us, the dive was classic Young. If you respected him before, what about today makes you disrespect him?

I've said this elsewhere. Time wasting, aggro and three brutal hacks of our players came before the dive. Played like tevez did against us

Behave. A “graze” doesn’t make your shirt get pulled in a straight line away from your body
Oh please that’s a weak argument for a pen. If Young didn’t flop like he’d been shot, that wouldn’t have been whistled in the first place. Much more contact happens in the box with no whistle.

That feels like a huge point to just take a bit of pressure off. Bruno has to play as one of the deeper midfielders moving forwards. When he plays as a 10 in this system he naturally drops deeper leaving Hojlund / Zirkzee isolated.
Last 30 minutes was so much better

Even though I didn’t see Chido do all that much when he came on, anything would be better than Hojlund

Very poor performance until Garnacho came on. Bruno in particular took the game by the scruff of the neck at that point and we improved as a result. Great free kick by Bruno for the 1st and excellent strike by Ugarte for the 2nd. However, I do think that penalty should have stood so we probably still should have lost. Nothing particularly positive other than relegation looking less likely (still not even sure if that is a positive or if relegation could be a net positive in the long run)

Pulling a shirt isn’t a foul…if it throws him off balance or literally makes him fall, maybe.
What?

You can pull a player's shirt to stop him getting to a rebound ball, but as long as it doesn't knock him off balance or literally makes him fall, that's not a foul?

Exactly and length of time it was pulled comes into play now. Slowmo makes it look like he pulled it for ages but it was a split second and that certainly doesn't make you flop and legs sprawl out.

You can blame the players all you want but it’s Amorin who picks the side, and he’s still picking that big waste of space Casemiro in his starting lineups. God only knows why he continues to get a free pass after stinking up the midfield for so long. Taking him off made all the difference today.
are you mad? He was an unused sub in 9 of the previous 12 games.

Should be thrilled to get anything from a game in which we’ve been terrible for 75 minutes and two goals down. Nevertheless, when we equalised, I really thought there’d be only one winner.

Take the point given the circumstances, of course, but frustrated we weren’t able to turn the screw when the game was ours for the taking.

You’re right, the flop made the ref blow, but it doesn’t change the fact that there were 2 shirt pulls before he flopped. You know you’d be screaming that it was a pen if it had been at the other end

I genuinely think the manager needs to consider playing some of the young guys....

Second half United under Ruben has been miles better than first half United, almost in every game.

What’s the fix for that? What’s the reason?

We just need to go forward quickly and we need an outlet like Garnacho to always start and we seriously miss Amad.

Opposition trying to defend a result? bad game management? no idea what we are supposed to play? low confidence? no team spirit? no desire and ambition?

No I wouldn’t. Especially not after that replay.

Let off. That was a pen. They showed ref shitty angles
It wasn’t a pen. A tug on the shirt doesn’t mean both legs bolt into the air. It was a young special, he got shit for doing it when he played for us, he should have been sent off for a second yellow.

Young was already flinging himself forward and going down, when his shirt was pulled.

Whatever, nothing changes the final score.
A point well scrapped for, considering we were heading for a pasting.

Look at the table.
We are not getting out of the bottom half pack (12th to 16th) regardless, unless we can win 4 or 5 in a row.

Rubbish. Maguire went down twice today both shirt pulls. Neither given and rightly so. Dives a dive. Im all for players getting booked for it. Sick of seeing it and people defending it.

If it happened at the other end this forum would be screaming corruption and ref agendas.
How many times did Maguire's shirt get pulled in the other box? No one in the match thread called for a pen. If anything I said he should stop whining about ghost pens.

I think Bruno switching to midfield and garnacho coming on changed the game ..
Bruno lost balls however we started playing press resistant as he started spraying him around

Not often my player ratings are lower than the caf average but that was diabolical for the first 60-65 minutes. Absolutely shambolic. Maguire and De Ligt were dumb and dumber, Dalot completely useless, dominated in midfield and what more can you say about the attack? (although to be fair Zirkzee improved and showed a bit of fire)

Valuable point and I'm thankful fir that but Jesus Christ that was concerning.

Is it possible that some can look at it for what it was instead of through red tinted specs?
Yes I’m one of those—of course happy when it’s given to us but I know a soft call when I see one, no matter if it’s for us or them. Some other posters, no.

Ill take the draw considering the woeful first half and over turned penalty at the end but Im massively satisfied that we ruined the Evertons fans day by denying them the win in the only game they show up for all season. Especially the last one at that dump as well.

Oh and Moyes can still get stuffed.

What's there to like? His hair? He sucks and was one of the most expensive transfers of all time.

You’re saying he is continuing to pick him when the trend is that he hasn’t been picking him. It took an injury crisis to get him back in the team.
No, I was saying he shouldn’t be anywhere near the starting lineup at all
