Everton 1:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Sun, 04 December 2016

Can't blame Fellaini really, we were hardly deserving of the win - we sat back for the last half hour hoping Everton would be shit, and Rojo should have been sent off in the first half for that shocking tackle..

Sure, Everton away isn't an easy game, but we were dull and slow and without any real thought from start to finish. The front three were crap, the midfield chased the game and the defence was acceptable.

Really disappointing.
You don't always deserve to win, but there is a good chance we would have without that idiot. The last game he played he got booked straight away and got himself a ban. He is a walking disaster.

To be fair, we were toothless this game. Didn't deserve to win. And with a manager who has no balls to make the necessary changes, we're not going to get anywhere.

I'm really close to giving up on this club.

Moyes... Van Gaal... Mourinho. Same shit, different name.

Done with this shit.
I hope you have calmed down since this, seriously man sort it out.

Mou fecked up big with the subs, but you can't safeguard against clumsy fouls.

That does not change the fact that we were dire from 60 min onwards and that goes for pretty much everyone. The fact that people seem to turn on Mouhrino is pathetic imo. Should we sack him and do the dance all over again?

Classic strawman...When did I ever say that?.

I have basically said what you said in your first sentence. He fecked up with the subs.
Go back to your initial post in which I quoted. you said it wasnt Mourinho's fault. How is it not his fault, fecking up the subs??

I guess Zlatan goal was more self created. Mikhi created a good chance that was blocked. They had a single shot on target at home. A speculative effort from outside the box.

No they didn't. Mirallas should have burst the net and Valencia missed a free header from about three yards.

Err some perspective here guys? Everton are on a pretty similar level as a team. If Lukaku was on form, I'd even say they are better.

I also don't agree with bashing Fellaini or Mou's decision to bring him on. Defending a lead is not the worst crime in the world, especially for a team in our situation.

If anything, it's the decision to start Pogba ahead of Mata in the 10 role that needs to be questioned. This is what happens when players like Mata and Blind are left out for more 'physicality'..

This, by the way, is coming from a guy who was against Mourinho's appointment and hates the fact that Fellaini is ending Schweinsteiger's career. One penalty decision should never dictate our views on a player, team or manager.

how is Fellaini any better than Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger?

He's not intelligent enough and the only thing he had going for him during his Everton days (chest control) he failed to retain at United.

THIS...where the feck was Schnederlin or Schweiny???? Fellani you fecking tool.

I understand dropping deep and defending with 10 men at the 85th minute, but when you drop deep for 20 mins against a team that's as direct as Everton and then bring on a buffoon that has no business playing football for us you pay the price. absolutely livid with this result especially that Everton looked clueless until we let them play.
Agree 100%

Correct me if I'm wrong...But were there not endless threads for around 2 months explaining why this is all Rooney's fault??

I take the positives from the last few games.
We are beginning to form a starting 11 for the first time in years.

Onwards and upwards !

Today I think the weak links were Pogba and Rocco

Ok let's ignore all our chances and make out Everton's we're sitters. I get it.

Everton had no right to get a point in that game.

I hope that this is the last of Rojo, Darmian and fellaini.

Well, you said Everton had only one attempt on target and that isn't true. Aside from Herrera hitting the bar, I can't remember us challenging the goalkeeper.

Darmian far better than Shaw !! he has cemented the left full back berth.

Overall, in recent weeks, our play has been decent but we have lacked the last ball and killer touch in front of goal to finish teams off. Today we were average but still should have won the game but for Fellaini's stupid challenge in the box.
Mourinho's not completely stupid (all those titles in 4 different countries) so I'm hoping he's just seeing what results he can get with the squad he has and is quietly constructing a list of players who will never wear the shirt again beyond the next two windows.
United are, at the very least, the third biggest club in the world, we sell out 75,000 every home game and we are every other team's biggest match of the season so we need world class players in every position to underwrite that.
Together, the club, Jose and the salary we can pay can attract virtually any player in the world to OT and I'm expecting a huge turnover in the squad by the start of the '17/'18 season.
If that happens we should see properly what Jose's made of and judge him then.
This season I'd be happy to retain the FA Cup (pulling ahead of the Arse again) and putting in positive, entertaining performances week in week out.

In the end a fair result on that second half capitulation by us but, feck me - if I never see Fellaini in a United shirt again, that will be just fine. He is the last person to bring on to protect a lead as he is usually good for a silly foul even because he it's just him. That was more of a dive than a foul but, because it's Fellaiin it's always going to go against him.

And I don't get why we don't make subs sooner when teams start going for it - at least to take advantage of the space being left open. We should be looking to have players like Rashford or Martial be the lead striker and others to give us speed on the counter and putting the game to bed by scoring another rather than desperate defending. Can't remember Zlatan being effective in any game where we are working to hold the lead and hit teams on the break - too many needless give aways and no running in behind.

Anyone listening to Koeman & Mourinho's interviews after the game & hadn't seen it, would presume it was against two quality sides playing great football, when in reality it was two mediocre mid-table sides with no pace playing a boring match, which only livened up in the last 20 minutes when Everton tried to equalise & Fellaini's howler. Leon Osman just summed it up perfectly when he said you would always ensure Fellaini was as far away from the penalty area as possible, as he was so clumsy & reckless, so why did Mourinho think he was the ideal man to support the defence.

As others have said. Hopefully the last we see of Fellaini & Rojo & Darmian who were pretty awaful as well, with the former lucky to be on the pitch after his two footed lunge.

Also can anyone explain why I cannot give zero for Fellaini's shocker when rating the team.

Correct me if I'm wrong...But were there not endless threads for around 2 months explaining why this is all Rooney's fault??

Yup, people were saying if Mourinho has the ballz to drop Rooney than he will win games easily

Also at the start of the season we had threads about how important and how good Fellaini had become under Mourinho and now it is all about how he never should play for United again and how Schweinsteiger or Schneiderlin would be so much better.

People are stupid :wenger:

It's not a strawman, it's more of a rhetorical question.

There is a lot more to a game of football than the manager and the subs he makes. Mou is partly to blame of course, but seeing all the bile in these treads (not from you specifically) makes it look like people are calling for his head already. We were dreadful most of the second half, and it looked like fatigue from Wednesday kicking in

Pogba having a shocker, Fellaini making a daft challenge in the area and most of our team stopping playing football can't be blamed on the manger alone.

This.

Jose looked so pissed off in his interview. No comment on Fellaini...but I bet yer....he's well pissed with him.
About time. Probably needs something like this for Jose to see Fellaini is not the answer. Though I think Fellaini is an ok guy, he's just not what we need and should be shipped out in January.

Hopefully this gives Jose something to think about regarding Fellaini but also what we do when we go a goal-up. We've been 1-0 up and not won too many times now.

Just came back home after watching the game with friends. I must say I am infuriated at the way we played. I was so angry that I almost wanted to throw something out of the window.

We are so god damn predictable. This result is on Jose. We did absolutely feck all from the 60th minute and completely lost control of the game. We sat deep again, and this is a tactic that Jose has tried again and again this season, and it has failed repeatedly. And yet he insists on it. When you know that the team can't defend leads and its not one of its strengths, its naivety to try and hold onto the game. It absolutely sickens me that Jose doesn't try something different.

That's 6 draws in our last 8 PL games and there's no chance in hell that we make the top 4. Our season is over and we are not even into December. This is unacceptable.

Fellaini's introduction and his involvement in their equalizer was laughable. I really don't want to comment too much on him because he makes me very angry.

Disappointed, although we didn't play brilliantly, we should have won this. Encouraged Everton on to us hoping to hit them on the break but yet again give away a late goal. Just go for the jugular.

Fellaini gives away a ridiculous penalty - no more please.

Jones had a good game plus Mkhi and Martial worked hard.

Cowardly 2nd half.

We sat back and offered nothing.

Gave Everton the incentive.

Infuriating draw. Top 4 is gone. We can't even get wins.

It's 5th December & our season is over, even by the lowest standards, that is absolutely pathetic. As a manager, you have to understand the strength & weaknesses of your team and then take decisions accordingly. We're not good at sitting back & holding on to 1 goal leads, in fact, anytime we sit back, even with 2,3,4 goal leads, we ALWAYS concede, he tried it against Arsenal and it didn't work, then today he did it again & the result was predictable. I don't know what's at United, these managers come here & persist with too many stupid decisions. After the 60th minute we were pointless, same thing happened against West Ham in the PL, we were hanging on to dear life after 60 minutes. I was one of those that wanted him at United, for obvious reasons, but so far, he's performing woefully & making stupid decisions game after game.

Even game. Both teams were solid in the first half and barely created anything. Zlatan scored from a half-chance. We started the second half well but got tired and Everton became the better team. I was thinking 15 min in the second half that we've improved but...

What is that Cantona song United fans keep singing at every game - home or away? It is fecking infuriating. Those songs of long gone glories can wait when the team is winning 3-0 or something. Against West Ham in the league too when United were fired up and had them on the ropes, instead of urging the players on, they kept singing the Cantona song.

If it isn't a Cantona song but instead is some song to motivate the players, I am going to have some serious egg on my face. fecking furious with today's result, a snapshot of everything that is wrong with the club.

What? The Cantona chant has been around for ages, it's practically a Christmas tradition at this point.

If players are that bothered that fans aren't chanting their names then maybe they shouldn't be playing football in the first place.

Way this season has been going, play well in midweek, can't score more then 1 in the weekend. Watch us score 3+ on Thursday then draw 1-1 with Spurs on Sunday

We have Carrick and Zlatan our most influential players and at around the 70 min mark they tire. We have two centre defenders that drop to deep and a poor excuse of a full back in Darmain.

You can always travel with our away fans and start up a few different songs if it bothers you?
