There were bits of that but not so much as in last two games. As I said we looked a bit quicker and had a lot of one touch passes Brugge or not.
For too long we struggled to get out of our own half and put constant pressure on. Without Fellaini's last minute goal we would have won 2-1 which would have been too tight. Even when Brugge tired we had difficulties to create clear cut chances and "rip them apart". We lacked movement and we were too static.
I might be picky but these are issues that we have now for too long and against a good EPL team we'd struggle if we don't improve now

I'm not sure if we saw the same game. We broke down Brugge just were unlucky with the goals. We certainly werent appaling against 10 men. And I need to repeat that ref can allow play to continue if one team is in the attack.
I don't think you are right - 90 minutes are 90 minutes, if time is up, it's up.

Absolutely dominated them, shouldve put the tie to bed. Quite an open game, wonder if VanGal's ass was twitching.. Great to see some interchange between the three attacking mids.

Great performance by Memphis, gutted he didn't get the hat trick. Shaw stood out too.

We had a constant pressure in the 2nd half and few good chances to kill them off before Fellaini's goal. As I said we were better than in the last 2 games, movement wise.

Nah, chance creation nwas there, just finishing and final touch was poor. Smalling, Depay an Schweinsteiger all had chances well inside the penalty box that they should've finished. Depay shouldve shot instead of squaring in the first half too and an in form Rooney shouldve finished his header in the first half. What game were you watching?

Am I alone in thinking there was some positive signs for Rooney today? He made a few good runs where a better pass or a pass to him would have set him in. His touch looked better. And his passing was better. I thought a marked improvement on his Villa performance.

3 chances against Brugge who were down to ten men and obviously tired. I thought we did ok but I wonder how people would see the game if we won only 2-1

3 chances?!?!?! We scored 3 goals, missed 3 very easy chances, 2 very good chances and plenty of half chances. What more do you want?!?!

What a great game. Battered them, but should have gotten another couple of goals.

Memphis really is a special talent. As is Shaw. Smalling imperious.

Still want to see Blind as a CB against top opposition, but it's fantastic to have such a composed and skillful player back there. He did really well I thought. Rooney wasn't great but a lot better than in the first two games, hopefully he's just slowly getting into form.

Subs were spot on.

For all the talk of the system being rigid players move around quite a bit while others cover.

Excited for this season.

Good performance by the majority of the players. Smalling really stood out in defense along with Shaw and Darmian. Schneiderlin was very good midfield, Carrick not so much. Depay was very good, needed his magic tonight. Rooney looked a little bit more active today, but still not good enough. Really should have gone for Benteke in the system that we are playing. Mata is a good football player, but he should be on the bench giving out hugs. Just simply does not have the cutting edge for a wide forward. He may provide a nice pass once in a while, but i would like to see someone who is a bit faster out on the right side.

Great game to watch, even if not all the football was of the highest quality. I thought it was yet another improvement on the previous performance against Villa. Each game getting slightly better. But there were some sloppy moments now and again, this needs to be cut out. Defensively we look strong thanks to beast that is Smalling and thanks to the positional play when not in possession, a typical Van Gaal trademark. And Memphis, well what can you say. The best thing about him is that he's only going to get even better.
I don't think we have a champion team yet, but who knows what could happen as the season progresses especially if we further improve the squad before the end of the transfer period.

I don't think you are right - 90 minutes are 90 minutes, if time is up, it's up.
Nope, you're wrong. There's a reason they always say "The referee indicates a MINIMUM of X minutes of added time". The goal went in at about 5 seconds over the 3 minutes according to the channel I was watching. When you consider one of their players went down with a fake cramp during injury time ... I don't think there's any issue adding time.

I really enjoyed that. Highlights were Smalling, Shaw and Memphis with Darmian, Blind, Schneiderlin and Fellaini all doing well too. I though Januzaj started really well but not for the first time, when he doesn't get protection from referees early on he can fade out of games.

On the ref, he was a bit of a prat with his big smug head. There wasn't a bad tackle in the game and the yellow cards for Darmian and Smalling, as well as in particular the second yellow for their fella were just fussy and unnecessary. I wouldn't mind all his attitude if he hadn't got so many decisions wrong.

I thought Rooney was much improved from the weekends performance. He wasn't back to his best and I'd have loved a goal but he looked hungry, he moved well and he seems a lot closer to what we'd expect from him that in the first two games. That touch back to Memphis was sublime and that chance probably belongs on the thread for amazing "could have been" goals.

We'll progress now. Being 2 goals down they'll have to come at us next week and that will leave space behind. I'd fancy us to win the game and score more than once in Belgium.
Yep. That's the game I watched.

I like the fact that he's disappointed instead of happy. He has hunger.

Don't like the fact the Bruggge manger is virtually throwing in the towel before the next game, reverse psychology and all that.

Really hope we go for them in the next game and don't sit back too much.

Minimum added time.
Minimum.
Mininim.
Minnem.

This. There wasn't any football played for the first half minute (there was an injured Brugges player I think), so it was only natural for the ref to allow us to finish the last attack.

Good atmosphere and result, the Brugge fans were singing who the feck are man united before the match began  great sense of humour.

Enjoyed the game and even though it was frustrating to have got the 3rd goal earlier. I thought the attacking performance was a lot better, there was a lot more speed during large parts of the game which was a welcome change.

Most definitely mood would have been different had it finished 2-1 even though it shouldn't be the case. Their goal came about with a huge slice of luck and we were creating and threatening so much more than the first 2 league games. Even at 2-1 I felt I'd have my butt puckered in the 2nd leg unnecessarily because on the performance I know we would have goals in us in Belgium.

Re: Schweiny - am such a huge fan of his, my favorite player as a Germany supporter but, I think people are going overboard on calling him to be absolute starter. I thought he slowed us down quite a lot. He is coming along but, he is certainly not transforming us into a different team when he comes on.

I was so happy to see us get the third goal right at the end. We definitely should've scored a couple more and Memphis looked disappointed he didn't get his hat trick. We'll have to be on our guard in Belgium as they did give us a game tonight and although they ran out of steam towards the end they never looked overawed.

This thread would have been a bit different had that last chance not went in

Nah you can't fault that performance. Some wasted chances but overall our attacking and defending was class, we passed the ball really well and the tempo of the second half was amazing.

Give me that performance every week and i'll be very content with where we're going under LVG.

Good save by the keeper from Bastian. Would have loved to see him score his first for us.

We looked much better in attack once Hernandez replaced Rooney. Hernandez is so much better looking than Rooney.

Great interview that, from both of them. I'm growing more and more encouraged about this season.

Me too.

Seeing winning is good but great performances alongside them do so much more to boost confidence among players and fans.

Don't think januzai had a great game at 10 tonight. Think the way wazza and depay were moving around we would benefit from Pereira playing 10. That would be so fluid with all the interchanging! Exciting times ahead...
I second that emotion.
