Attack looked a lot better. Aside the obvious, an unleashed Memphis, I saw Januzaj and Mata do some very useful stuff as well.
Seldom seen Carrick have such an offday tho, he needs to forget this one asap.

Can I also give a shout out to Blind and Smalling tonight? They didn't put a foot wrong all game. This has the beginnings of a beautiful, solid partnership.

I was in the camp that doubted Blind at CB, but his reading of the game is excellent. And for the first time in the past few years I think we have a settled back four.

Come on, we were a lot more quicker and had a lot more flair today.

Anyway great game imo. Some beautiful football by us today. We were shaky in defense a bit in the beginning but bossed it as the game went on. Some nice first touches, triangles and players in general ran a lot more behind players than vs Villa and Spurs. Special mention to Memphis of course, he was a beast!
And Fellaini of course. Brugge players started to panick as soon as he came on.

Hernandez looked nice too.
Smalling a beast again.
Mata better in the 2nd. Morgan got the job done, few missplaced passes.
Carrick was poor.
And our 2 fullbacks, what to say than they're fecking awesome.
Rooney a lot better than last 2 games.
Mata was horrible in the second. Failed to make an impact on the game and was misplacing passing. Our two full backs were okay, however Shaw kept on leaving space in behind him, which is unlike him, and Darmian's crossing was abominable today.

Second week in a row I've put a 10 next to Smalling's rating.

He's really seemed to come of age this season in terms of defending and stamping his authority on the game.

Schweinsteiger is a natural leader. Would prefer him to start in place of Carrick, who was absolutely terrible. To be fair, he never starts the season in good form.

Schneiderlin, Darmian, Shaw, Blind (Wow, impressed) all excellent.

I thought Adnan was severely disappointing. Didn't have an impact on the game at all.

Mata slowed us down and provided no cover for Darmian at all. A few good attacking passes doesn't cover for this type of performance.

Memphis, is there anything that needs to be said?

Rooney is getting there, slowly but surely he'll get back to his best. He showed glimpses today. Especially when he played his natural role when Hernandez came on.

Fergie time has been officially replaced by Felli time...:drool:

I don't know if it's because he's sitting next to McLeish but Brian Kerr is a really sensible guy. He's actually done a lot of research about players for this. Enjoying this analysis from him.

That 3rd goal was the least we deserved after very dominant and attacking play. Could easily have been 5-1. 2 goal advantage is still good though.
As for the play, the urgency in play was very pleasing and we need to do it more often than the usual cautious approach. A great game for Memphis and this will give him much needed confidence after dull opening 2 games. Smalling was once again a beast. Rooney I thought improved and with more games will get better. That flick for Memphis showed that he still has that awareness and intelligence in him. Maybe as no. 10 he will do better.

Great performance, we have a problem with Rooney though. Can't see him being the player he was.

Mata was horrible in the second. Failed to make an impact on the game and was misplacing passing. Our two full backs were okay, however Shaw kept on leaving space in behind him, which is unlike him, and Darmian's crossing was abominable today.
Hm have to disagree on everything. Darmian crossing could have been better but that's about it.

Only Brugge so I'm containing my expectations but that was much improved.

Couple of changes that make a big difference with Depay on the left and Schweinsteiger providing a lot more fluidity than Carrick. Bit bizarre to constantly start Carrick and Schneiderlin together.

Strange game. 4-0 would not have been flattering but at the same time, if the ref had not been a weirdo it could have been 2-2.

Ref weirdo? Romero his foot gets stamped off in the 5 meter zone, while he was first on the ball? I hope you dont mean that moment, lol.

So fecking proud of the boys today, you could see how much they wanted that third goal and the hard work payed in the end.

We are now in a very good position for the next tie.

Great for Memphis to get off the mark should make next weeks game more comfortable especially with them having to press forward we can use our speed on the counter attack. With my computer dying a few months ago it was back to radio 5 tonight dear me that was a nerve racking 90 minutes.

Don't get me wrong. Shaw was great, but he was a little bit sloppy positioning wise, which is something that you don't really see. Mata did struggle to make himself a presence in the second half though.

Schweinsteiger should have started, it's what most people expected so it was strange to see Carrick start and not a surprise things improved in the second half.

Glad to see Rooney can be substituted.

Brugge were not great ... BUT ... we bossed the match, had complete control for most of it and even enjoyed a trade mark last minute goal. Memphis, Smalling and Shaw gave outstanding performances with good cameos from Bastian and Fellaini. Likewise, some good attacking rhythm as the team begins to gel. Felt like a Manchester United performance.

Average performances from Carrick, Januzaj and Rooney so plenty of improvements to come.

But 3 games into the season and I cant complain one bit.

I fecking loved watching us

I wish we could play club brugge every week. Memphis was electric.

Rooney needs to do better.

Mata hit some great passes in the second half there, and won a few tackles too.

Daley Blind out thought the laws of physics a few times there to stop that massive fella getting past him, great defending.

Our full backs were outstanding, Shaw is so fast, it's like he's racing against children when he sprints past players.

Smalling outstanding again. Beast.

BFS was so smooth when he came on, what a man. Schneiderlin provides a real engine in there.

Memphis, 2 goals and an assist and he could have had more! Januzaj had some good moments, he's young and hasn't played a lot so I'm happy he's getting these minutes. Mata did what we know Mata will do, he drifts in and out but when he's in he's great to watch.

Rooney, definitely better but I'd still like to see a little more. Was willing to hit a few snap shots, and a great touch to Memphis that was worthy of an assist.

All 3 subs gave very impressive cameos. Hernandez great movement and energy, Fellaini physicality and a goal. I was actually getting annoyed at how we were constantly bombing the ball at him every time but he scored from it, so it's a great option to have.

Don't get me wrong. Shaw was great, but he was a little bit sloppy positioning wise, which is something that you don't really see. Mata did struggle to make himself a presence in the second half though.

But Shaw's run down the right wing (for the Memphis chance) was just brilliant. All in all a good performance (even if you accept that he was caught up the pitch 3 - 4 times).

That was well and truly fun to watch! I hope there will be more matches this season where we throw the sink at our opponents, even if we're ahead. I had almost forgotten how enjoyable it is!

Van Gaal: He's done it a lot of times with me, I'm happy with him

:nervous:

Memphis speaking to BT Sport: "It is really important we win the game. We created a lot of chances, I feel disappointed I could not finish the last two chances. We have to travel to Brugge and finish the job.

"I ended last season with a lot of goals, come to a big club and you have to do a good job again. It is a nice feeling to score two goals at Old Trafford."

"I am little disappointed because I will think about that last chance."

Agreed. I knew Shaw was fast..but I didn't know he was that fast!

Interviewer: "They are going to Love you in Belgium for that"

Fellaini: "I don't care"

He was such a breath of fresh air. Constantly making runs behind the back 4. I missed him. But does he look a little more filled out?

The most Manchester United weve looked in ages. Pace, intensity, good quick passing.

2-1 would have been a fake result. We deserved that. How Manchester United of us in the CL, concede early within the first ten minutes, take the lead and then score a late goal. haha :P

Romero's lapse in concentration could have cost us, he now has me worried. Mata's second half performance was awful, for the amount of times he seen the ball he really should be creating much more with it. All in all it was a better performance nice to see Memphis step up and show us what he can do and long may it continue.

Januzaj looked much better than against Villa. Rooney's performance was a big improvement but still needs a goal to get the confidence back up I feel. Genius sub in the last 10 minutes when Brugge lost their height advantage! It's great to feel that last second goal moment once again!

Not to take away from Depay's excellent performance and stunning goals but Smalling was my man of the match, he was an absolute beast! Hope no one ever digs up my old posts on him :D.. what a season he is having, he's putting in world class performances of late!

Good game, I think we had 20 attempts and they had 1 not to mention their goal came from an OG. Dominant display even for the level of opposition these games can be tricky.

Rooney needs to visit the bench for a while.

Only Brugge so I'm containing my expectations but that was much improved..

thats just it. we are usually a shower of shit against showers of shite. Actually creating chance after chance against a compact side playing on the counter was very pleasing to see in my opinion.

He certainly think he looks stronger, and I thought that at Madrid too. It's funny that going to a less physical league saw him get more physical, but there are those rumours about RM...anyway, great having that mobility and enthusiasm up front again, much more lively than Rooney (who was better than his other performances)

Positives
Memphis
Schweinsteiger
Smalling
The third goal

Negatives
Januzaj
Carrick
Not converting the second half possession into goals

I felt a lot more comfortable with him on than Carrick. But Friday he was amazing so fair enough, I disagree but get what you mean.

Carrick had a stinker. He has a few of these in the beginning of a season. When compared to him, you are right.
