Manchester United 1:3 Brighton & Hove Albion

Post-match discussion

That was mostly Onana stuck on his line and not coming to collect or parry it. He was in a great position to do that but he hesitated and then he couldn’t make it.
From the replay angle behind him, it seemed uncatchable to me. Maybe he could have done better but I thought it was a good cross.

INEOS needs to make a decision, either get wingbacks and a cm in, or find another manager. No point bringing Amorim in and have no players that suits his formation.

Read many others say over the last few weeks/months that they don’t even get angry with us after games like that now, as it’s expected and so demoralising. Feeling a bit like that now after that one. Don’t even know what we are anymore? So awful to watch and seemingly no way out of this hole.

I'll say this for the boys, they really tried

to depress me.

He incorrectly failed to send a Brighton player off which would have changed the game massively.

Even so, we should be beating Brighton at home, we shouldn't need players sent off to win matches.
Our players are the reason we lost, some are not good enough to be in the squad of any top 4 team, but get starts at United on a regular basis, overhyped, overpaid average players.

Spot on. But we have zero solution to fix these fundamental issues. It’s getting worse (fatigue, lack of intensity, etc)
Even a single January signing in any needed area would go a long way to help ease the stress. On the condition of course that it isn’t a ridiculous price.

Poor performance all round.

if this system is going to work we need some wingbacks. We look really toothless in attack. Amorim has been dealt a really tough hand.

Some players are starting to look leggy like Mazraoui, didn't look entirely switched on for their second goal an only Onana to blame for the 3rd

We are not going to go down the route of blaming the refreee for our results when they are this poor

We do more than enough by ourselves to lose games but it wasn't just not sending Baleba off. There was a foul by Minteh first half were he got one leg on the ball but completely took Dalot out from behind with his other and not even a foul was given. He seemed reluctant to give the penalty, the earlier shout I didn't see a replay but looked a foul and he really deliberated over the VAR overturn for their disallowed goal which came from a foul being given that wasn't a foul if I remember rightly.

We aren't good enough to overcome the refs like we did under Fergie at times.

Not my point.

Today’s game sums this team up. Play and work like hell for each other & the badge against Liverpool at Anfield and then for large parts of the game with 10 men against Arsenal & the referee at the Emirates to then revert back to how we were before that Liverpool game.

Thursday night against Rangers and honestly no matter how bad they are, they will be coming down here with confidence that they can get a positive result.

With what money and in January?

We should really have enough to win even when a ref gives them everything for at least the first half.

But we don't have enough to overcome that. We barely have enough when the ref isn't on a mission to screw us over. Either way, why should we have to put up with it, when it's happening nearly every game?

I wish I could just hit a button and stop giving a shit.

At the point where this group of chancers has a ruining every weekend.

This is the level of our squad as a whole. Some of our players are young and have potential but potential doesn't equate quality.

Started the game very slowly but I felt we started to build and we were deserving of our goal. We had a strong defensive unit and Brighton found it hard to break us down.

This was not a brilliant Brighton performance IMO. However, our usual lack of intelligence, communication and finishing let us down. After the first ten minutes of the second half we began to lose control and passing became a problem. It shows that this set of players have a real lack of athleticism and fitness to compete in the Premier League when there are midweek games.

Bruno and Ugarte played very well against Liverpool because they had the day off against Newcastle. Some of this team just can't compete without a clear break. A lot needs to change in this club but the decay has been there after so many years of ineptitude and not giving a hoot about the club as a footballing enterprise by the Glazers. It's a long way back from here.
Unpopular opinion: it wasn't anything vintage but I genuinely thought we did just about enough to get something out that game on any other day. We weren't terrible or anything. Some of our players just ran out of petrol around the 60th-minute mark and Onana's double clanger ultimately killed us.

Not surprising really, they're just a better team right now. This is what happens when you put the system above everything, we're going to get results like this.

Thought Minteh was incredible for them today, that's what we need on the left and right wing backs.

Whatever Rangers struggles are in Scotland they have been a very solid team in the Europa league over the last few seasons. I doubt they will be beaten on Thursday.

Really disappointing result. At a time when we need to start stringing some good results together we have lost another home game and the negative vibes return again. I’ve seen us play worse, but our football in the final third was very poor and didn’t threaten them enough. There might have been red for Brighton in the 1st half, but at 11 v 11 we were 2nd best today.

I am sick of losing to Brighton. They are a bogey team for us that beat us every season. Next season, I hope we play them early on and absolutely batter them.

Brighton have developed really frustrating ability to score with almost every chance they create at Old Trafford, despite not being anything special.

Still, we looked toothless today, we're in desperate need of some more pace throughout the team, the number of times we create breaks but can't capitalise because opposition defenders run us down is getting silly.

It was really bad today. Dalot and Maz are making too many mistakes for us to be playing 5 at the back and conceding the goals we are.

And also, the lesser said about our keeping howlers the better.

Team of red shirts from Star Trek!
 Don't mean to sound cruel, but sometimes the bluster oversteps the mark to the point you can't help but think that.

Brighton have had their way with us so many times now that it's not healthy; a sense of wariness at least had to be the order of the day, let alone thinking it was ours for the taking.

Don't know. I just don't know.
I feel it would help to have more attackers. We need to play higher up. But then even if we create, we seemingly miss.
Our wingbacks are fullbacks, our attacking 10s are mfs or wingers who want to go wide
3 at the back is fine but the rest needs adjusting for forwards
352?
Play Bruno, ugarte and mainoo in the middle. 2 forwards to stay high

Yeah. We don't even have a system.

We've brought in a 343 coach but haven't changed anything else about the club at other levels to try and support the supposed shift.

I know for a fact that Barcelona play the same system at every level. That's what happens when your club has an identity and you expect your academy to produce talent to try and feed your first XI.

What are we actually doing? Where's the mythical 'game model' that was such a topic of discussion last season?

I know we are not supposed to expect anything but wtf…
It truly is the hope that kills you

I kind of agree with this but will say that Brighton were the better team even before we ran out of energy.
