Manchester United 0:3 Bournemouth

Post-match discussion

Sun, 22 December 2024

Imagine how much better we would be if you replaced Lisandro and Malacia/Dalot with Huijsen and Kerkez. Just an incredible gulf in quality between Manchester United players and fecking Bournemouth.

Reckon Ajax would help us out with a nice package deal for Lisandro and Antony? Or just one of them, then? Please?

Can De Ligt play as that left sided CB? Then have Harry in the middle and Yoro on the right? I think I have run out of patience with Lisandro. He was constantly fecking around with the ball in the first half, or playing suicide passes into the middle of the park. And it can't help our set piece deficiency when one of our defenders is so vertically challenged. So if he isn't adding to the team with his passing and possession play, then what is he bringing to the team? And that "challenge" for the third goal was pathetic.

It looked like Kerkez decided to focus on staying with Amad today and he wasn't as involved in an attacking sense. That lead to our only attacking player worth a shit struggling and not as involved as he should have been. NEEDS to have been!! Because his worthless teammates offer complete FA.

Mazz'z first mistake of the season. Shake it off mate, I still love you.

Nightmare of a game and a shocking performance pre Christmas. We created enough chances to have got a result but not getting the equaliser when we had the chance was a killer for us and then 2nd half was a disaster.

I think Amorim got the team wrong. We should have started Garnacho on the left so we weren’t playing with 5 defenders. We didn’t have enough pace or attacking impetus to hurt them enough. Also, Zirkzee should have not played, literally for anyone else, he remains the worst forward to have played for the club in a long time.

Ridiculous. We’ve had one summer with the current regime involved in recruitment (and some didn’t come on board until late). And if you don’t think United continue to spend around 150 to 200 million every summer you’re delusional. In reality, you don’t even need that much if you identify the up and coming talent just prior to them making a name for themselves.
Spending 150m on more mediocre players won't help. And we are awful at identifying or developing up and coming talent, too.

The pattern has been repeating since 2013.

That team should not be losing 3-0 at home to Bournemouth.

Not a chance.
What have these players shown you over these last few years that makes you surprised by this result? This is who they are. They are inconsistent and mentally weak. There is talent there which means they’re going to pull out results like the win against City but because of the erratic, mentally weak nature there are also going to be results like today sprinkled in. We’ve seen this many times.

Stupid mistakes and cheap giveaways made the difference. At times you see where players are clicking and then after some momentum we are let down by unforced loss of possession. Finishing still a consistent weak point, but we improve our number of chances by resolving the former. Still need a boss up front who’s hungry for goals. Have to also credit the opposition because Bournemouth are no pushovers either.

In favour of us losing a bit. Hopefully then they get pushed harder in training, I'd take being out of all cups so there's more time to train too.

This season I don't mind being a total write off.

I understand your thinking but we need to win the EL cup. If we don’t there’s no CL for us and if we’re out of the CL and end up in 12th place or even 9th we’re done and dusted for another 3-4 seasons.

I cannot remember a more frustrating game than this one.

Awful in both boxes.

It feels like we concede one in every 3 chances and score 1 with every ten chance we create.

Top 6 team hammer bottom half team we can't score and we can't defend set prices We deserve to be where we are in the table.

Man Utd (2.66) 0-3 (1.40) Bournemouth

Wanted to post this but you were quicker. It's not something to celebrate but my God we created enough for a goal or two at least. Terrible finishing, players couldn't even hit the target most of the times. On the other hand, we either concede from set piece or it's some awful defending where it's too easy for opponent to score.

Really poor result. Thought we might lose but 3-0 looks bad. As expected we will suffer a lot this season with new coach changing the system and playing every 3 days.

This is it, people say "oh we were well on top on xg", but all that means is you're crap at finishing, which isn't that easy to fix. Same as being good at defending - not that easy to put right.

Ah the "we won on XG" merchants all over it as expected.

We used to laugh at the scouse for their "moral" wins.

When they were getting those moral wins they lost the title to City twice by 1 point and won 1 of 3 CL finals... I'd kill to have that right now. Because sooner or later their luck will change (and it did) and they won a league and CL.

Am so disappointed.

However, I'm willing to go through the pain. Although I would appreciate we get to 40 points sooner than later! Don't fancy a relegation battle!

Our players cannot finish to save their lives.
They've got to sort this out. They panic so easily. I get it's the pressure, but something needs to be done about this quickly! All between the ears! Anyway, Amorim learning more about our players' mentality.

It's a widely accepted metric in football no? Atleast it shows that we are creating chances and not finishing it. At the bare minimum it shows which areas needs fixing.

We don't really need stats to see that though do we?

We can't defend and can't attack.

When our players are always slower, weaker and less composed than Bournemouth players it's clear we cannot imagine finishing top 10. How did we manage to transfer all this dross, while ex-Championship teams can have players with clear superior quality than ours, it's beyond my understanding.
Since started supporting our club, mid 90's we were never this bad, not even in Rangnick era, for that reason we are on course of beating some negative records.
Depressing but this is the reality.

It's not going to get better. There is no way back for this club. We are clearly incapable of fixing our recruitment issues and now we don't even have the financial resources for yet another rebuild doomed to fail anyway.

United are stuck in footballing purgatory with no way out.

Of course there is a way back. It is all about doing everything right. And I am sure that we will.

The danger is the pundits and media start jumping on the system. Personally I think it's a bit naff anyway that's why not many teams play it. Also I think teams have figured out how to play against it already while knowing our forwards couldn't finish their dinner

Saw only bits, maybe 20 minutes, but there were at least 5 long balls bombed up field instead of a simple lateral pass to build up. Only once did Utd keep possession from all these tries.

We can't defend and can't attack.

Attack agreed. Defending is still not that black and white. We have probably conceded half our goals from set pieces (Best teams concede 1-4 all season). So that shows the organization is a big problem and not just defense. From xG stat above we can deduce that our pressing is really good, looking at the opponents xG. We've conceded mostly due to set pieces and individual mistakes. IMO defense does not need big upgrade except LWB provided individual mistakes are sorted out.

Tough watch again, individual mistakes and poor finishing are killing us.Its clear some players here aren't good enough whatever system you play them in, the manager probably can't believe the serious lack of quality in the squad as a whole.
The club need to help him in January to move some on so he can get a couple of players in.
The last 2 home games we were expected to win and lost both.

The main problem is defending set pieces and individual defensive mistakes. I think everything else we see an improvement aside from shooting. We are better in possession, better at getting in good positions in the final third, better defending and pressing as a unit of out of possession. But every game they concede from a set piece or someone makes a defensive mistake. This needs to be fixed first. We need a LB and a commanding CB and everyone player needs to be more focused and aggressive in defending set pieces. Once defensively they are stable then the next thing to address is the finishing. Bruno, Amad, Garnacho, Mazraoui all got in good shooting positions but get the shots on target.

We need a commanding CCB. Maguire should be a back up player. It's a key position, you need a world class player in there. You need someone in the ilk of VVD or Vidic

I think it's because Urgate doesn't offer much offensively and Amorim wants us to play more attacking football. However, I would have put Eriksen on the field after his very good half against Spurs. We could have used his creativity.
Ugarte was taken off before he got a second yellow, we didn't need more creativity, we created plenty and missed them all, the biggest issue, aside from finishing, was poor passing, giving the ball away, low energy and some really bad positioning

Bournemouth are no mugs and are a very good side. This is something that I was very surprised by more than todays scoreline that so many people were expecting nothing other than just us brushing them aside with ease.

Hot take... Mainoo is overrated as a CM.. Would work as one of the 10s but his passing range as a CM is really really limited. No vertical passes and no switching sides.. We are a much better side with Ugare and either of Casemiro or Eriksen.

It’s not a hot take and he wouldn’t work as a 10 either. His role is unclear and he likely should not be starting.

Big questions about Bruno after today, he causes so many turnovers which lead to goals, it’s not good enough.

That midfield turnover was Mainoo mate…

At this point before the game I was hoping for a draw actually. Odd how some were confident we'd win after that 3-2 loss to Forest where it showed how easy we can concede goals atm.

I had predicted a 2-2 draw before the match. I think the Man City result last weekend put the wool over some folks eyes on here thinking because we had beaten City last weekend, that we were definitely going to win again today.
