Manchester United 0:3 Bournemouth

Post-match discussion

You can't concede 3 at home to Bournemouth, whilst failing to score and claim to be the better team. We were terrible.

The xG is conflated by the fact they stopped attacking after the third goal.

It's incredible how bad Ten Hag made this squad in 3 years, I wouldn't be against selling any of our attackers barring Amad. I think we have some decent options in defence and midfield but we need to be dropping mega money into some actual top quality attackers.

People are gonna look at the score line and say it's no different to Ten Hag but it really is, I'm of the opinion it's better to lose to stupid mistakes rather than be dominated and outplayed, individual mistakes can be remedied by upgrading the personnel.

Bruno should be next out the door after Rashford, he's well past his best. Unpopular opinion but I wouldn't be against selling Garnacho, due to PSR selling him would give us so much wiggle room and I'm not sure I see a place for him in this system.

  1. Bournemouth are a good side under Iraola and have been for some time - there's a lot to admire
  2. ETH's recruitment was awful and has set us back 2 years+ on developing any sort of decent squad
  3. For all our problems up front, we're a defensive shambles and it's clear Martinez is now a real problem
  4. I can see why Amorim wants to rotate but it's too much, too often, and needs to change
  5. We're still 2-3 seasons away from being competitive...we need to get used to this and hang-in there

100% this

Idiotic sub to take off Ugarte. Mainoo was absolutely horrible. We’re going to have a real struggle finishing in the top half.
I think it's because Urgate doesn't offer much offensively and Amorim wants us to play more attacking football. However, I would have put Eriksen on the field after his very good half against Spurs. We could have used his creativity.

It's not going to get better. There is no way back for this club. We are clearly incapable of fixing our recruitment issues and now we don't even have the financial resources for yet another rebuild doomed to fail anyway.

United are stuck in footballing purgatory with no way out.
Ridiculous. We’ve had one summer with the current regime involved in recruitment (and some didn’t come on board until late). And if you don’t think United continue to spend around 150 to 200 million every summer you’re delusional. In reality, you don’t even need that much if you identify the up and coming talent just prior to them making a name for themselves.

This. Only I'd change the 2-3 seasons to 5.

Amorin is not without criticism today - his team selection and subs were baffling to say the least.

However, the absolute dross of a squad he has to work with is pathetic.

In favour of us losing a bit. Hopefully then they get pushed harder in training, I'd take being out of all cups so there's more time to train too.

This season I don't mind being a total write off.

Malacia - not a PL player
Mainoo - not good enough for this formation
Bruno - Utd won’t win a PL with him
Martinez - not good enough for this formation
Zirkzee - not a PL player
Dalot - not good enough for this formation

Basically only Ugarte playing high level football.

A few seasons back I wrote on here that we will never challenge for the title whilst we rely on Rashford and Martial as our main attacking force. It has taken far too long for those changes to have happened.

Bruno doesn't quite fall into the Rashford/Martial category but I don't think we will challenge whilst we build our team around him and I can't see him being more disciplined and composed if asked to play deeper.

I am totally baffled when Bruno supporters state that without him we'd have nobody to provide assists or score the odd goal. If we're considering replacing a goalkeeper nobody argues that without the current one we'd have nobody to save shots.........obviously we'd buy another goalie who is tasked with that. They may be better in some aspects and worse in others but ultimately, on balance, you always hope to make improvements to a particular position.

Back to Bruno... His manic energy can be contagious to other players and we clearly lack compusure and decision making. Selling Bruno may not be on the cards for Amorim but I think perhaps it should be.

Seems obvious Amorim wasn’t watching our games before his first day in the job. Why he persists with some of these misfits is bewildering.

We shall see if anything can stanch the bleeding in January. We need a clear out - again. Malacia, Zirkzee, Dalot, Maguire, Casemiro, Eriksen, Antony, Rashford, to begin the cull. Garnacho, Højlund, Mainoo, and Amad should still be breaking into the starting lineup, supported by better - but aging - players. Instead, they’re our only hope. There is no Plan B because there isn’t a fully formed Plan A.

When Fergie axed a bunch of big players and brought the kids in, every single one of those axed players would waltz straight into our first team, never mind the future stars just getting their foothold in the team.

We had control of the game for the most part and created the best opportunities, but a lack of focus and desire ultimately cost us. Our squad feels disjointed, with players who neither complement each other well nor seem to fully trust one another.

Malacia isn’t ready to start against strong Premier League opposition, while Mainoo needs to simplify his game to be more effective. Bruno remains our most talented player, but he’d make a bigger impact if he focused on his primary role instead of trying to cover for others. Garnacho, on the other hand, doesn’t suit the #10 role and might fare better as a wingback. Zirkzee looks like a shadow of the player he was, seemingly struggling either with the league's pace or his role in the system.

Despite the scoreline, the game wasn’t as disastrous as it appeared. Amorim’s biggest fault lies in excessive rotation, which prevents consistency. While I’m not particularly fond of the 3-4-3 formation, if this is the direction the club wants to take, then we need to fully commit to it and embrace the approach with courage.

Elephant in the room.... missing chances doesn't mean we should concede from every shot the opposition has. 2 against Bodo Glimt, 3 against Forest and now 3 against Bournemouth at HOME. Forget scoring, the defence is absolutely terrible and the GK is a gift to the opposition.
The Mighty Bodo Glimt handed us our asses. Their name sounds like Frodo’s shit cousin, and they still hammered us.

We need to come to terms with how bad our squad truly is on an athletic level. We have ONE midfielder capable of playing 90 mins of PL football and he just joined the club. Our experienced defenders are slow and our young attackers are inconsistent.

Every single PL team is full of better athletes than us, their defenders are tall and fast, ST is tall, fast with good aerial ability and midfielders and wingers are fast and can actually dribble. Every. Single. Team. So when we face these teams the simple fact that they can run more then us has us at a disadvantage from the off. It is shocking how we have let this happen but it is where we are.

It will take a long time to get out of this mess. We need to be prepared for the journey.
Was thinking the same. It also hi lights how shocking our scouting and signing of players continues to be. Gun to my head, I’d heard of 3 possibly 4 of Bournemouth’s players today yet these unknown players (to me) look bigger, fitter, stronger and far superior skilled footballers helped of course by an established and well coached system to shine in. Our players are simply light years off that today.

Bournemouth were hungrier, quicker to the press, got stuck in more than us. That 70th minute incident when ref stopped the play and Bruno complained it was not a head injury, that’s the difference between us and them. They had two players throwing bodies in the way of the shot, ours would probably turn away and look where the ball ends up, usually in the back of our net.

Lots of teams dropping unexpected points... if we weren't totally sh!t, we could be top six maybe better
