Competent 1st half but wayward 2nd.
Once Arsenal upped the tempo we struggled quite a bit for a period of time. Our composure and technical abilities came under question.

Also, we're lacking in 1 or 2 star players who can really frighten the bigger sides in this league.
I didn’t see Arsenal up the tempo so much as we lost our way with Rashford and Zirkzee.

Those corners killed us. I thought we looked solid in the first half, kept our shape really well and matched Arsenal, but we offered nothing going forward. Second half we lost our heads a bit after the first goal and it was over from there. Shite but no one expected us to win, the manager would’ve learnt a lot tonight. On to the next one, need to bounce back with a win against Forest at the weekend.

What’s with the Arsenal OTT celebrations recently? They really are terrible for it.
Classic Arsenal, they’re too wound up. Lost the title the year they imploded vs Liverpool 2-0 up.

Comes from the manager.

Casemiro should have come on for Bruno or move Bruno to 10. He is pretty good at corner.

 at people moaning at Arsenal being "Stoke mk2" or Burnley. Did you watch our performance?

If Arsenal played like Stoke or Burnley, then what did we play like? Bradford '99-00 or Derby '07-08 perhaps?

A game that just further highlights our deficiencies. I think our defence is decent in terms of the bodies in CB. Definitely need to invest in a left fullback.

Our major issue is across our attack. Garnacho is our best winger and he should really be a bench player. Rashford should have been sold in the summer. Zirkzee probably would not start for most teams in the premier league. Rasmus just gets gobbled up by any decent CB pairing. Mount has no creativity in him. This summer we have to get a couple attacking signings in and cannot afford for them to fail. We are in desperate need for a new front 3 for this system.

I said in the match day thread that I thought we would pay for our unambitious first half. I wasn't expecting us to go toe-to-toe with Arsenal. However, in the first half we had decent possession at times but instead of someone putting the ball in or trying to shoot we were happy to recycle possession. At some stage, especially at home, Arsenal were always going to come into it and it played out that way. Something to learn from I guess.

I can't with Rashford. Even when he does score and 1/3 of Redcafe offer up sacrifices of spotless lambs in his name, his generally performance is usually worse than his statistical output.

At his very best, he's a productive player, but at his best, he's very average in general play. People need to come to terms with that and stop perpetuating the silly argument that "goals=good". A player can score many goals and still be poor for the team in general.

Rashford scoring a brace doesn't mean he had a good game. Football isn't that straightforward. It's not that binary.

I've been saying that for years. Many of his goals are more luck than anything and you could say the same thing when he makes a really good pass. Almost every time he completes a penetrating pass I am pretty surprised. I don't see how he can be effective in Amorim's style.

Difference is, we aren’t being touted as one of the best sides in Europe at the moment.. whilst they laughable are and yet all they really do is rely heavily on set pieces.

Can take the defeat. Fair enough

I do wish our players, where necessary, would be whinging cretins like so many others.

Make a fuss. Give the ref something to think about. Force the review. We just sat back and accepted the decision

If you know the opponent is strong on set pieces, why give them 13 opportunities to score?!

STOP HACKING IT OUT OF PLAY YOU CLOWNS!

That said was nice that we didn’t let arsenal play through or around us like we may have done under the previous manager, but a shame we couldn’t muster more than MDL’s header on target ourselves.

Arsenal are the new Wimbledon. Created feck from open play. We’ll have these cnuts

I think we back 3 and goalkeeper is set for the next 4-5 years. We need 2 young complete midfielders to add to Ugarte and Mainoo. Amad is set to be our RWB for sure, we need a new LWB for sure. I think we need to see if we can sell Rashford and Zirkzee
That's the sad truth of our attackers - they're really awful.

Only one I would actually rely on going forward is Diallo - and even he is untested and might turn to shite or get injured again before the end of the season for all we know.

I simply don't believe that Højlund has anywhere near the quality or talent to be succesful for a team with high ambitions, Rashford shows up once in a blue moon, but is clearly washed, Bruno is too erratic clearly not one to build a future team around, Garnacho is trending in the wrong direction and is so frustrating to watch, and I can't even be bothered to comment on Zirkzee or Antony.

Amorim has a tough task at hand, and it's a shame that Ten Hag and our management have been allowed to waste so much money on bad transfer targets and contract extensions to the wrong players.
Totally agree. United needs to sell some of these players. Rashford should be first to go. Zirkzee and Hoijund, I am not convince that they have what it takes. Garnacho could be worth something. We could take back 150 million and reinvest in 3 players.

Both corners they score from there are two fouls, but apparently they don’t get called?

Feel like we were solid without any attacking threat first half and second half the goals killed us.

If Hojlund can’t be a focal point and get the ball under control as an outlet he will be gone sooner rather than later.

Bruno can’t play 8 in my opinion and we need someone there who can progress the ball and beat a man.

Rashfords off the ball work is terrible.

We desperately need more players in the mould of Amad (but better) who can control a football, press and beat a man 1vs1.

LWB will need to be addressed going forward.

Thought Yoro looked good for his limited minutes.

/rant.

Zirkzee was dreadful

Both him and Antony annoyed me. Tricks and flicks in stupid areas when we desperately need to get back in the game.

Rashford wasn’t much better either.

I wish we just had a team full of Amads and Mazraouis tbh

Terrible post. It is possible to comment on the performance of one team in isolation.

And if you insist on mentioning how poorly United played what does that say about Arsenal’s complete reliance on corners to be a goal threat?

Arsenal are shit. Sat back against a team in a learning phase and relied on forcing corners to get a win. Not even good moves, pushing in the back and a lucky deflection. Piss off. Liverpool, as much as it's shit to say, are playing proper football. That's how champions play, especially in this league. They'll make this out to be a massive win, even though they couldn't lay a glove on US in open play for the first 45. SHITE

It's cringeworthy but excusable within the first few hours post match. There's a certain irony with complaining about winning on two corners when our 99 CL win were also from corners.

Sell Antony, Rashford, Zirkzee and bench Bruno for big games.

Hope under Amorim for shape and a proper system, but it will be very difficult for these above players to deliver for Amorim.

Garnacho is regressing without even progressing much to begin with. I had hopes for the dude. Letting me down big time.

Can we steal Arsenal's set-piece coach please?

I doubt many count them as a European force at this very moment in time - maybe a few deluded Arsenal Mania clowns.

And I'd take a 2-0 win from a couple of corners against a rival anyday. Somehow I also feel that they could've shifted into another gear had they not taken the lead in the 54th minute - and would probably have scored a goal from open play if needed - but that's all just hypothetical of course.

One thing is sure however: We created absolutely nothing going forward. And we kept on gifting them corner kicks even though that's their speciality and that's one of our weak spots.

Did ok given context of set pieces. But no chances created from our own patterns and that's an issue.

Sure the answer to Arsenal's corners routine is just to go full man to man with it. They are obviously trying and succeding at load the areas between the zonal players and dropping the ball in there to cause chaos.

Going full man to man removes the gaps so to speak.

Let's be honest, this was nowhere near a good performance. First half quite okay defensively, but they still could have scored 3 or 4 in the second.

I would have liked to see Mainoo in one of the 10 roles tonight. Shame about the booking. Mainoo has more of a dribble to his game and Bruno behind him might have suited him tonight.

Yeah, probably mostly knee-jerk. I guess I'm still getting used to being part of a fanbase that is so fickle and moany.

At times it could seem as if we are slowly turning into RAWK of 10-15 years ago blaming everybody but ourselves, but I guess that's what it feels like supporting a fallen giant.

Forwards let us down tonight. So little options when we tried to go forward, we were pretty good in the the build up until we got to the final third, and nothing was sticking up top in the second half leaving the midfield and defence constantly fighting off counter attacks.

3 players in the summer transfer and we start again, hopefully we get players that are technically good. Our transfers this summer has been good, Yoro looks good, Mazroaui is great, Urgate looks good, Zirkzee is just to slow for EPL but so far, I don't think he is good enough. I LWB, 1 CM, 1 ST for the next transfer window would be great.

Expected result. We're just not a club that are going to do well when we're away to the top half.

Yes a European Cup final where we were missing our two generational talent CMs and winning from two corners is the same as midweek league game in which arsenal faced a mid table Manchester united still finding their feet under a new manager.

I like this. Would expose more of the fouling they are getting away with also

I'd form a chain of players from the post to the edge of the 6 yard box. As soon as they feel contact go down.
Soon stop them bum rushing the area. Of course, if VAR lets them foul then it won't work.

Thank you.

While it’s true, our performance doesn’t make it a good look to ridicule a rival that comfortably beat us 2–0.

Yes, comfortably—even though their goals came from two corner kicks. Based on how the game unfolded, I have no doubt they could’ve shifted gears and scored from open play if needed. After all, once they took the lead from that corner in the 54th minute, it was clear we weren’t going to score in a million years.

Regardless of the circumstances, conceding 13 corners—many of them gifted—to a team like Arsenal, who excel in set-pieces, is unacceptable. Especially when defending corners is one of our biggest weaknesses.

complete different Arsenal from what we are used to now. Instead of playing it through it is literally just crossing and corners. First half was fine, then they literally played for corners.

Thought Yoro looked good in his short time on the time on the pitch. Ugarte is getting better. But overall poor 2nd half performance after looking solid first half.

Rejoice in the fact we don't have these hipster virgin poems and that much of our fan base are very quick to blame the players. Judging by comments in this thread, we're ready to put Rashford and Zirkzee on clearance again.
