Arsenal 2:0 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

A Mourinho away performance. Pragmatic, fairly solid, as soon as we let a goal in all the points were gone because we had no attack.

This crop of players has me yearning for the days of Pogba, Martial, Mata etc who despite not being good enough, could actually control a football.

We looked decent enough for about 25-30 mins, even dominating possession for some of this time. The first half, generally was comfortable. But what was disappointing to see was the absolute lack of any attacking threat. 32 touches in the box to 6 is pretty unforgivable, as is the sheer number of corners we conceded (without getting a single one ourselves).

Pretty even game in open play. Corners gave them the edge

Well Arsenal didn’t take us apart as many here predicted. Take away the corners and it’s a bore draw.

Didn’t do enough going forward but look far more solid (and missing some key players) than we have under Ten Hag.

Never looked like scoring, we’re looking for a draw, having said this the amount if easy give away if possession was very frustrating especially when your behind

Interesting match from a tactical view. So many players who don’t fit the system. But I must admit, I really like Amorin and his willing to try to change the game.

Rashford must be sold, Fernandes will never work in this system and I hope he leaves before Amorim.

How do they get away with so many fouls set pieces. Pushing and blocking on every corner

Eh that's fine enough. We were solid and decent, up against a better team who were stupidly on point with their corners even for their standards. We weren't dominated or anything which would have been the worry, but just battered on the corners. Hopefully the set piece defending improves in time, but we know that's been a long lasting issue with us

We should copy that corner routine
It shouldn't be allowed. I hope Amorim highlights it in the post match. It's very simple what they do, any team at any level can copy it, you simply run into the box and because you're at speed it's hard to spot the niggly fouls. This creates chaos and a big advantage, all you need then is the delivery to be decent and it's a goal.

Simply a game we weren't ready for so no point making too many judgements. It'll be the same with the City game.

Arsenal will probably sign the next Rory Delap in the summer to complete their attack.

People seem content here with a 2-0 loss. Shows how far we've fallen. We never look like scoring and are horrendous from set pieces.

Nothing on the manager, decent signs from him so far but he has one humongous job on his hands.

Bottom line is we need better players. It really is as simple as that.

People very snooty about goals from corners but they still count! Also, we didn’t even win 1 corner and our only 2 chances were from free-kicks!

It’s not snooty. It’s the myth that gets peddled that Arsenal are a free flowing, attacking team that gets people’s backs up.

They’re a defensive, set piece team and do a very good job at it.

Could not deal with any of their corners in that 2nd half and very lucky to only concede two goals from them. Can we hire their set piece coach please.

We were absolutely toothless in the final 3rd. Never ever liked we were going to score tonight.

Made Arsenal look fairly average for most of it despite us still experimenting. We need to be more dominant defending corners, especially when the ball was put in the same spot every fecking time.

Arteta still a tit and the Arsenal crowd a proper embarrassment.

Good 1st half, poor 2nd.

At least Amorim isn’t stupid enough to try the ETH basketball matches.

I liked the shape and structure, I didn’t like the lack of attacking threat.

Yoro is also clearly the greatest ever

Pretty boring game, Arsenals set piece coach is just miles better than ours.

We really need more offense. Rashford and Zirkzee just isn't close to good enough for the PL, Garnacho should not be a starter but an impact sub.

Bruno at CM makes us weaker defensively and offensively.

Backline with everyone healthy should probably be Amad, Yoro, De ligt, Martinez, Maz.

About half of those touches came from the 13 corners we allowed them to have.

Not the terrible performance people expected. I though we mostly cancelled each other out and both teams could’ve played for another 2 hours and not scored from open play.

This Arsenal side won’t win the league. They’ve done a good job eking a few extra percentage points out of set pieces, but that doesn’t make a league winning team. I was not impressed by them at all.

Back to us, we don’t have the forwards who can hold up the ball properly for us to set up deep like we did in the first half. I know folks think we need to buy a LWB but to me our forward line needs some attention sooner rather than later.

If anyone is getting annoyed about that result, give your head a wobble! Up against a team fighting for the title, bedding in our new system, whereby Ruben will make decisions going forward to see who has that fight and who doesn’t. We played well first half, solid enough second half and only killed off by two very good corners. The coin will flip eventually and it will be us taking to to Arsenal

As much as there is a focus on the corners, Arsenal were comfortably the better team. They didn't trouble us much from open play but got into decent positions. Our lack of attacking players or situations was disappointing in both halves.

Some small positives to take but I thought the performance was generally pretty poor in possession.

Terrible performance, we were setup all wrong in the first half and were far too negative and spent too much time passing backwards instead of trying to create chances for the attackers.

2nd half was just a terrible all round performance

No surprises that United lost, though they should probably be encouraged that it was only down to set pieces. Arsenal didn't create a great number of chances from open play especially at 0-0.

Ugarte + the back 3 played well. Malacia decent-ish as well in the 1st half. Amad bright again when he came on albeit not the impact he had in previous games. Clearly still missing pieces in middle to get the attack going properly.

Arsenal will probably sign the next Rory Delap in the summer to complete their attack.
To be fair, Liam would genuinely fit their "system" more than Havertz does.

Decent first half but we got fully outplayed in the second. We just don't have the quality in the squad to match teams like Arsenal.
