thought the shape was okay and the lads stayed disciplined

not much else to say other than the obvious, Rashford needs to sold whatever the bid his attitude stinks

Rejoice in the fact we don't have these hipster virgin poems and that much of our fan base are very quick to blame the players. Judging by comments in this thread, we're ready to put Rashford and Zirkzee on clearance again.
Yeah, and we don't have a cult supporting of Rafa Benitez.

Yes a European Cup final where we were missing our two generational talent CMs and winning from two corners is the same as midweek league game in which arsenal faced a mid table Manchester united still finding their feet under a new manager.
I believe in a world where one can make a comparison without some over emotional response claiming it to be 100% equivalent.

What's with arteta and referees. They allowed him to do whatever he wanted from sidelines. Sooner or later he will come in to pitch and ping a pas if this goes on.

Thank you.

Of course it is, but given our performance it's not the best look to ridicule a rival that comfortably beat us 2-0.

Yes, comfortably even though they scored on two corner kicks. Given how the game went, I have a feeling that they could've shifted into another gear and scored from open play had they not taken the lead from a corner kick in the 54th minute. And we were clearly not scoring in a million years.

Under any circumstances, it seems ridiculous to allow 13 corners (quite a few even gifted) to Arsenal who specialise in corners when defending set-pieces is one of our biggest weaknesses.

I wonder who made a decision to “allow” so many corners?

We were never going to win this. We’re a mid table team trying to catch up with teams that are miles ahead of us. One of whom we had to play away from home tonight. We matched them in the first half. They were clearly better than us in the second. Shit happens.

None of which means we can’t observe that Arsenal are a horrible team to watch. Cynical, fouling negative twats - managed by a throbbing bell end - that have become massively reliant on corners for their current league position. That’s a completely independent situation from whatever issues Manchester United are going through.

We did alright. Lost to Set Piece FC. It is what it is.

On to Forest.

Didn’t enjoy much about that. Ugarte was good, the rest had their faults.

Attacking 3/4 were non-existent throughout which is alarming.

I'd form a chain of players from the post to the edge of the 6 yard box. As soon as they feel contact go down.
Soon stop them bum rushing the area. Of course, if VAR lets them foul then it won't work.

Just said this to a mate, although you'd need to leave a couple of guys free for the players lurking around the box. I'm sure there's an obvious flaw to it but it'd be interesting nonetheless.

Somebody will come up with a solid way of countering it and then we'll see how good they are, I'm not convinced Arsenal are anywhere near a title challenging team.

Arsenal created next to nothing from open play = progress.
Yes we don’t either but we are at the beginning of the journey.
Amad must play every minute in the future that is clear.
I’d be more worried if I was an arsenal fan that they can’t create anything apart from set pieces that will get worked out in the end.
Pretty happy with tonight overall. We need tightening up on set piece defence that is clear but overall there was no clear gap between the teams. Despite our injuries and suspensions.
Arsenal will win feck all . Same as it ever was

Did Arse actually create a chance from open play? Not seen anything like that in ages.

Good shape and commitment in the first half. Had decent control just lacking in the final third. Much to improve on.

Post match on prime - like Arsenal Tv. Going on about them like they’re the second coming ffs

I believe in a world where one can make a comparison without some over emotional response claiming it to be 100% equivalent.

But you did essentially claim it was equivalent in the way you used it as an example. It was a European Cup final against one of the best teams in Europe and we were losing with minutes to go. We didn't play the entire match trying to win corners as our main tactic in that match, or indeed any other match we played in the last 30 years.

Arsenal largely use this tactic in every game.

We desperately need a new forward, someone who can hold up the ball and do a simple f***ing pass to his teammates running through or around him. It would have helped a lot that first 60 or so minutes in moving us up the pitch.

Zirkzee plays more comfortable playing deep, Hojlund is just not it

I think what "allowed" us to conceded so many corners is simple: we’re just a poor team. The fact that Amorim is clearly doing some things right doesn’t change that reality.

What really bothers me, though, is the constant complaining about opposition teams being lucky or circumstances always conspiring against United. Last week, it was Ipswich being accused of “game-raising” and then, when they lost over the weekend, it was chalked up to them being tired after their supposed “cup final” against United. Then it’s always the referees being biased against us. And now, tonight, it’s Arsenal being dismissed as a lucky Stoke 2.0.

I guess it’s just wearing me down—a mix of frustration with the team itself and, at times, with the fan base. The fact is simply that we are a shit team.

Arsenal have turned into the Stoke City they loved to hate.

Think the only question was whether we'd lose 2-0 or 3-1. 2-0 it is. The first half was okay in terms of defensive shape, though we created nothing except that Dalot's chance in 43rd minute. Had the ball at times but decided to pass it around, in the end either losing it or sending it back to Onana. Arsenal had 2 good chances but weren't really in a rush. Second half they fastened things up and scored only 9 minutes into second half. It got better around 65th minute, especially with that de Ligt header but ultimately stupid corner that Rashford conceded and they sealed the game.

Not much in attack and vulnerable on corners. Still it wasn't a disaster and just a defeat that was always predictable. Shame we lost some other games this season but still only 4 points behind 5th place (7 in Brighton win tomorrow though) so it's not that bad.

Forest at home to hopefully get above them and potentially few other teams.

It's cringeworthy but excusable within the first few hours post match. There's a certain irony with complaining about winning on two corners when our 99 CL win were also from corners.
Correct.Last time I checked goals from corners count.
We suck right now but that's not Amorim's fault.

The tit picked up the ball whilst it was in play a few weeks ago.

Was just about to mention this  worst bit is according to the rules he should've been sent off but only got a yellow AND... In light of it the rules are changing for interference to only be a warning so you can imagine what sort of antics the Arteta's/Tindall's/Mourinho's of this world are going to get up to

If you squint then Arsenal could have been playing Ipswich today. I don't blame Amorim but feck me our team is bad.

Interesting to see Arsenal change style and evolve into a set piece focused team.

Arteta was lauded for finishing second twice, if he finishes second for a third year running with this new style of play I’ll wonder what the reaction will be.

Tonight's game will bring a lot of attention to their Stoke-esque appearance.

But I don’t watch Arsenal every week so after I wake up tomorrow I won’t give a shit about tonight result.

He's some weasel. One of these days he's going to get a slap and will ask what was that for?

It's Arsenal. Their fans spent about 20 years winning nowt but being the self-appointed arbiters of Good Football.

It's funny to see them now be the set piece/counter merchants they spent forever claiming footballing moral superiority over, while still somehow winning nowt.

First half summed up why this manager is great but why you can’t squeeze juice out of a stone.

Apart from Mazraoui most of our players are unable to make forward passes. I’m not talking 30-40 yard Hollywood balls type passes. I’m talking about 5-15 yard passes to a player that is further ahead of you on the pitch. Too many times in that first half players would choose the side or back pass.

Juat as I wrote before. After being undefeated against 3 really weak teams (and conceded 2 goals against the 40m Bodo/Glimt which was worrying) I said the real tests are yet to come. Poor attacking, zero big chances created, and 0.3 xG. But, trust the process as they say. I still don't expect the team finishing any higher than 6-7th.

Ok, yeah. That’s fair.

I guess I’m bringing a lot of anti-Arsenal baggage to this thread. I fecking haaaaaaate them. And they’ve been an absolute eyesore in every game I’ve watched of theirs this season. So watching them corner their way to a victory against us as well was painful.

I think you’re being a little harsh on our performance. For the first 45 minutes I thought we played better than we have in ages. Certainly in terms of away games against strong opposition.

Second half was a different story. Hopefully we get a good 90 minutes soon. There are signs of progression there IMO.

I agree that there will be a system developed to deal with this. With our luck the referees will then start giving penalties against the defence.

Was a free hit for Amorim tonight and could have earned 0-0 draw but for poor defending on corner kicks a trait that was seen too often under Ten Hag. Perhaps by the time United play Arsenal in Cup next month Amorim will have sorted out the weakness on set pieces?

Need to move swiftly on and win against Forest on Saturday.
Good points
Casemiro should have come on for Bruno or move Bruno to 10. He is pretty good at corner.
I expected to see Case yes

Hojlund is a soft arse. Got bullied by their defenders on both ends of the pitch… and crucially during their corners.

Zirkzee is just not mobile enough for the PL

Rashford is done at the top level

We need to fix the attack next summer

Perplexed how he got away with appealing for Malacia’s yellow card, only for Ugarte to get booked for the same about a minute later.

I’m not condoning trying to get people booked by the way, just curious where the consistency is?

That and he’s a massive 2@
