Arsenal 2:0 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Good game plan. Did well. Arsenal are just an absolute cretin of a team and are soo desperate they are willing to literally do anything to win. This corner nonsense will be illegal by next season.

Encouraging first half, we competed well. Arse are deadly from set pieces. Amad looked lively after coming on and good to see Yoro finally.

Still very early days for the manager but you can see the green shoots of improvement.

Was a free hit for Amorim tonight and could have earned 0-0 draw but for poor defending on corner kicks a trait that was seen too often under Ten Hag. Perhaps by the time United play Arsenal in Cup next month Amorim will have sorted out the weakness on set pieces?

Need to move swiftly on and win against Forest on Saturday.

It shouldn't be allowed. I hope Amorim highlights it in the post match. It's very simple what they do, any team at any level can copy it, you simply run into the box and because you're at speed it's hard to spot the niggly fouls. This creates chaos and a big advantage, all you need then is the delivery to be decent and it's a goal.
But VAR reviews all goals and can both speed up and slow down footage?

Amad is the only ace we have in our hand. Garnacho, Rashford, Höjlund, ZZ, Mount are either bang average or plain mediocre.

Make no mistake, the gap between the 2 teams are vast. We barely took any chances going forward, just played safe, they still created enough to win easily and well deserved. Their passing is just on a different level to us. Painful
Completely disagree that the gap is vast. Got done by 2 set pieces. Arteta has been at Arsenal for 5 years and they most certainly did not dominate us. Arsenal were supposed to be competing for the title. I am optimistic about us under Amorim.

Expected to lose so just got to take it and move on.

Take away the set pieces and I thought we were good defensively, very solid in the first half and a lot of good last ditch stuff in the second. Our forward players are pretty woeful though.

Maybe I'm really old, but I prefer man to man marking on corners and a man on each post. Not a fan of zonal marking.

I presume there are stats which tell me I have an out of date viewpoint and zonal marking is better in terms of less goals conceded from corners.

This crop of players has me yearning for the days of Pogba, Martial, Mata etc who despite not being good enough, could actually control a football.
That's the sad truth of our attackers - they're really awful.

Only one I would actually rely on going forward is Diallo - and even he is untested and might turn to shite or get injured again before the end of the season for all we know.

I simply don't believe that Højlund has anywhere near the quality or talent to be succesful for a team with high ambitions, Rashford shows up once in a blue moon, but is clearly washed, Bruno is too erratic clearly not one to build a future team around, Garnacho is trending in the wrong direction and is so frustrating to watch, and I can't even be bothered to comment on Zirkzee or Antony.

Amorim has a tough task at hand, and it's a shame that Ten Hag and our management have been allowed to waste so much money on bad transfer targets and contract extensions to the wrong players.

Goal keeper rooted when arsenal corners. GKs have to be more brave should have come out and claim the ball. It's GKs territory and any little foul it will be advantage to goal keeper.

Surprised how arsenal have evolved into late 1980s Wimbledon.

Do they really think that is going to win them a title?

Worst game on a Wednesday the new manager could have been faced with, aside from Anfield away. Says nothing about our progress, and Arse were more of a polished Stoke then looking like champions.

Set piece wankers, they aren’t anywhere close to being as good as the Liverpool or City (when they aren’t being shit). God I hate them.

Couldn't do it on a rainy night at Stoke. It happens.

Disappointing loss. But Arsenal were always going to be favorites here. Physically and technically superior team. I do think tactically we handled them well first half, but lost our heads in the second. The frantic last 20 mins is how it has went usually against Arsenal in recent years so we've made some progress in very short time. Another day Dalot's or De Ligt's chance goes in and who knows what could've happened.

The positives were our first half shape, Amad's continued form and Yoro's return.

United didn't have the tools to punish Arsenal tonight, but I was a bit shocked at how bad Arsenal were tbh.

If that is how they have been playing this season then Southgate or Tony Pulis might be getting a call if they ever need to replace Arteta. Awful to watch.

Sure. So easy and everyone has been doing it for ages.

It's the midfield. Again. Look at the fecking state of it:

Ugarte - Bruno
Mount - Garnacho
Leicester City level. 2 bodies in there minimum to give Ugarte some help in the summer or we can write off next season too.

Not sure why Malacia was taken off at half time, we were pretty solid up to that point.

Malacia over Dalot any day of the week.

We offered so little going forward, some of the players are obviously not good enough but the manager will have figured that out already.

Arsenal was better in the 2nd half, but with any referee from continental Europe both goals would be disallowed. It´s amazing how they can do that in the premier

Losing to such a shitshow is annoying, but we were expected to lose anyway.

Positives:
Yoro looks good.
We kept the ball better.

Negatives:
We offered nothing going forward, it was all Arsenal in the second half.
Midfield is still non existent and Bruno has an off day. People say he doesn't need a rest?

Can't really shit on Arsenal much, set pieces are an important part of the game and they've become the best set piece team around over the last 5 years. More clubs should learn from them in this, especially us.
I wouldn’t shit on them if they did more than that.

Their whole gameplan revolved around set pieces which is small time mentality.

You can be sure they’ll still be treated as the heralds of football and Arteta the messiah though.

Their fans singing « ole » at the end of the game shows how deluded they are and I wish them a prompt free fall. Amen

First half I thought we played well and threw Arsenal off their usual game. We didn’t have many chances but we were reasonably solid at the back. Unfortunately it came apart when Arsenal upped the tempo in the second half.

Their corners are lethal and they’re very tough to defend against, but if we can take any positives away, it’s that we didn’t concede in open play.

I do not wish to imagine what the score line would have been like if we hadn’t controlled the first half like we did.

Irritating to lose on set pieces but that is an area Arsenal excel at.

Overall I thought we looked like we belonged on the same pitch against high level opposition, which is a positive.

Our lack of effective CM personnel has definitely shown through these first couple Amorim matches. Ugarte looks fit for purpose but Bruno isn't an 8, and we don't have anyone naturally suited to that role.

Eh, disappointing to lose to two corners, but they were dangerous from them time and time again.

We looked fairly competent for parts of it and managed to look very solid most of the time outside of defending corners. That's progress.
On the other hand we didn't look very dangerous from open play ourselves.

I'm sure Amorim will have learnt something from this at least. On to the next one.

What’s with the Arsenal OTT celebrations recently? They really are terrible for it.

Not surprised we lost, first half we looked very solid without offering much going forward.Arsenal were a little bit better second half but Amorim will take a lot from that game.

Move on big game Saturday 3pts needed.

His yellow card played a role I'm sure

Can't read much into this apart from he's not a maniac like ETH and will play pragmatic football. Will be interesting to see these fixtures against the better teams next year, ETH in his first season actually did pretty well (beat Pool, Arsenal, City, Chelsea) we just forget because of the awful 6-3 and 7-0. But what we really want to see is being able to control games against these stronger teams.

Goal keeper rooted when arsenal corners. GKs have to be more brave should have come out and claim the ball. It's GKs territory and any little foul it will be advantage to goal keeper.
He's absolutely shocking in this regard. Never fancy him to catch it when it comes near him. Huge problem

But VAR reviews all goals and can both speed up and slow down footage?
VAR is a shambolic implementation and is more of a lottery than an effective system which creates consistency in the game. People talk more about VAR now than we ever talked about refs, that tells you all you need to know about how good VAR is.

As soon as it gets tough they don't play for each other. They all want to play a little flick and feel sorry for themselves while looking at someone else when they lose it. Sick of them being babies, it needs to change.

As an aside the ref was fecking shit, as with every other game tbf.
