Players you had forgotten existed

Pedro! I had him around David Villa's age in my head, and retired. Was surprised to see him playing for Lazio. There can't be many players from that Spain 2010 world cup winning squad still active at his point. Also feels like he played for Chelsea like a decade ago at this point.

I think Kyle Walker is a similar case of longevity. He played from Vidic’s days, and still plays in the Premier League regularly til now.

The name Marco van Ginkel popped up for me today, although mentioning one of the millions of Chelsea rejects who were once supposed to be the next big thing feels like cheating. Apparently the rest of the footballing world has also forgotten he exists, because he's been without a club since last summer after spending the last few seasons as a bit-part player in the Eredivisie.

A YouTube suggestion popped up for Diniyar Bilyatetdinov’s best Everton goals (including a screamer versus Van Der Sar against us) This was not so much a player that I had forgot existed, I literally have no recollection of him ever existing. Cracking left foot

Matthew Wicks, signed from Arsenal to United as teenager, was going to be the next big thing, as son of Steve Wicks.

Labelling him a reject is a bit harsh. He spent about 3 years injured. Ruined his career.

Steffen Iversen
DaMarcus Beasley
Aleix Vidal
Ross Turnbull
Pavel Pogrebnyak

Maxi López. He played with some top players both at Barca and Milan.

Used to buy him all the time on fifa as I used to think blonde players were more skilful

Brandon Williams

Wtf is going on there, he's in his early 20's. He's a decent footballer and he's without a club. Something has to be wrong with him.

Saw James Beattie on something the other day, he'd probably be a 100m striker these days.

Looks like Philippe Mexes (played for Roma and Milan)

Scored a peach of a goal against Inter once
Brilliant player.

Not really associated by anything other than both being defenders in Serie A but made me think of Christian Chivu

Ryan cherki
And then I find out from the transfer thread he is only 21!!
When I saw his name on the thread I thought he was easily mid 20s

Adel Taarabt. Was reminded of him today in another thread. He’s only 35 and still playing in some Arab league!

Miguel Torres, ex Real Madrid defender.

Rasmus Elm, CSKA midfielder we were linked with in no value on the market years.

Nery Castillo.

Only player I have ever been worried about if the wind were blowing. Genuinly thought he would fly out of the stadium at one point

I think you guys signed him after the Copa America where he was genuinely outstanding. I thought he would be an incredible signing

One of those players that genuinly were "too lightweight for the league". Skinniest player I have ever seen, but even with that in mind you could see that there was a player in there.

If I remember correctly I am pretty sure we got him on loan randomly because he fell out with his old club, Shaktar I think. The deal were announced in November or something and he sat around waiting until he could train with us from January 1st and then got injured some weeks later and hardly ever played for us

would love to know the full story here. I really hoped he would push on and be part of positive changes at utd. few fairly mediocre loans but always struggle to understand why he is vilified here and among utd fans. Local lad seen a bit too much money early and thought he was some sort of gangster rapper but surely most adults can understand this is just a bit immature and the might actually be a player under there someone could take a punt on. might not have been great quality but he had something most our current 1st team have not...and that's balls. always thought he done a great job clattering people when they needed it. maybe I don't know the full story about such a demise
