not the slightest bit surprised tbh. don't blame Phil either, we've heard the warchest line that was dependant on CL all summer, TV money as well as having a positive net spend last summer. The money is there but once again in a make or break summer for FSG they've capitulated.

If you're Phil having seen the Suarez situation and seeing us fail in the market for the umpteenth time since you were signed you'd be pretty inclined towards leaving too. I'd leave if I was in his shoes, that Barca squad might be on the wrong side of 30 now but at least they'll still challenge for top honours and attempt to rectify their problems.
Wonder how the FSG apologists will spin this one . s'okay cause we've got Grujic and Moreno who the manager decided a right winger was better at his job than. Woodburn who's not anywhere close to the level of Sterling and is more Suso yet.

If you're VVD and Keita you're probably looking at this and thinking nah don't quite fancy it as much anymore . Only the club to blame .

You are a pretty honest poster.

I have said all along I'm not sure the FSG warchest exists. I really think they will be happy to still Coutinho for big money, will allow Klopp to spend some and pocket the rest.

As for Coutinho he'll be made to look the bad guy now but as you rightly say you can't really blame him.

I can imagine Coutinho getting proper upset if he doesn't get to leave, this is probably his one chance to join Barcelona since they won't wait another year.

All the tapping up Barcelona needs to do is to tell him that and he'll throw a strop.

Trying to look at it objectively (as best you can), Liverpool will probably never get offered this sort of money for Coutinho again. He's 25 now and not that good compared to the money they're offering. It's not going to be like losing a Messi/Suarez/Ronaldo from your team and losing all their goals. They can get definitely a player brought in who can at least do 80% of his job in the team.

Add that all in to the fact he's going to be unhappy if they keep him.

I don't really buy the comparison with De Gea either. I genuinely never got the impression Dave is too bothered either way about the United/Real tussle.

It's a World Cup year so the spirit of Shankly has shone down and given Liverpool a lifeline. Pip has to play well as he wants to play for Brazil... Yeah right. Ask him about his back problem which suddenly flares up when Barca told him to force the issue.

It's embarrassing. Just let the player go, make it amicable and re-invest.

Yes please re-invest like you did with Torres and Suarez sales and buy the next Andy Carol for a record fee.

The war chest clearly exists. It's just that Klopp has no secondary targets which is poor management.

Good of Liverpool to reject. Epl clubs needs to send statements to other clubs now ,it's time.

Finally, a football fan who is able to see why a player might want to leave their club.

The problem is, he has another 5 years in his contract, right? And the world cup is next year. He will perform, there is no doubt there.

Still think that Liverpool holds all the cards. Being in 2 (or even 3 years contract) gives some power to the player, being in an 1 year contract gives most of the power to player, but on a 5 year contract? He has no choice but to respect Liverpool's decision.

And you call my comments idiotic

Coutinho is a grown man firstly, he can actually communicate his feelings with the club. Secondly Coutinho has been completely professional about the situation so far. Handing in a transfer request doesn't really deter from that.

It's not the fact that they've maintained their stance of 'not for sale', and/or Coutinho's request. It's that both events happened within moments of each other.

Professional? He signed a five year extension a few months ago, got a massive raise, probably kissed the badge, hugged it out with Kloppo. Liverpool made it clear as day he is not for sale. That should be the end of the story for a professional.

Maybe he should not have signed the massive new contract and gambled on himself, if he was so interested in Barcelona. No let´s get the guaranteed money first and then raise a stink, if it does not suit me anymore. Guess what, why don´t you get a release clause in your contract for Barcelona or Madrid, if that is your DREAM. That´s professional thinking.

Yes, I think we all understand why Coutinho wants to leave and why.

However, it still makes absolutely no sense for the club to sell.

Klopp aka "not wanting players that wish to leave Liverpool" spotted for being a plonker again(not that we needed much confirmation) for refusing to let the lad go.

Maybe he signed that contract to ensure Liverpool can get the maximum fee possible. I don't think Liverpool would've also allowed for a clause for him to go to Barca.

According to you then he should be forced to stay at Liverpool then, where he's unhappy? He's been professional all around and hasn't kicked up a fuss. What do you think of someone like VVD's behaviour in comparison?

Release the burning Coutinho shirts!!!! Ahhahaha

Also if Liverpool cause a big problem for Coutinho leaving, that will create a worry for new players joining because theyll feel their wishes not respected by the club if theyll want to move away from a midtable level team onto a bigger one.

Thats all Liverpool is nowdays, a platform for a player to go to before making a big move. Why move there and not to another platform who wont kick up a fuss? Theyll find it problematic signing even "good" to average players, let alone great players

Liverpool sure does make it hard on themselves and the player.
hmm, not sure what Pool have done wrong with Coutinho? They rejected a huge fee to keep him, on the back of making him the club's highest paid player a few months ago. What more can they do?

Ultimately if Barca come knocking at your club's door, especially with the money they have available right now, most players will try get the feck out.

Fair play to Sky's 'sources' - Actually called something ahead of the curve for once.

What a great way to finish a working week,

Phil "the nice lad" Coutinho who wouldn't hand in a transfer request or force a move as he adores liverpool does exactly the opposite.

Then RAWK is full of comments we will keep him and make him stay like De Gea, Keita etc none of them officially asked to leave and made it known to the media slightly different story.

I'm gonna sit back and enjoy this one.

Top marks Phil day before the prem kicks off too!

Just need these Lanzini replacement rumours to be true and the scousers will be a laughing stock again.

You only know part of the story so what you've typed is opinion only. Nothing more.

Have they changed the RAWK thread title yet?

Phillipe Coutinho - Der Zug ist schon abgefahren :(

Why does it clearly exist?

Because they've had huge bids rejected for Keita? They would also got VVD by now if they hadn't so boasted about tapping him up. The money has been there but either the clubs have rejected their offers or they've fecked it up. And Klopp seemingly has no alternatives to the two of them. Blaming their owners (and the transfer committee) is another long standing scouse tactic to try and not blame their heroic managers. Klopp is at fault here clearly.

Not looking good for Pool. Not sure who they can bring as a replacement and if they won't sell they'll have their best player not happy at the club.

It actually looks similar, but with a few key differences. For one thing, madrid first asked the player in June. Player had one year left on his contract and made it clear he wanted the move, which meant united had to name a price. Madrid's unwillingness to pay the price until august 31 was partially to blame for the deal falling off.

Like united, liverpool also have a major international tournament as their greatest ally. Unlike united, liverpool's behaviour seems to have rubbed the player the wrong way

Ultimately, if liverpool refuse to sell, i expect he'll be reintegrated on the team after the window closes, probably with a promise to let him go next summer

Well does this also work the other way? Maybe Liverpool will stop paying Sturridge´s wages, cause they are unhappy? Surely you guys are just taking the piss with your hot takes.

I have been very firm with my opinion and I said the same about VVD, Dembele, Coutinho and everybody else. You signed the fecking contract. Nobody forced you to sign a five year deal worth €40-50M. But it sure is nice to have that financial security, ain´t it? Well then you honour it, if the club says no. You don´t go on strike or run to the press. It´s not like we are talking 3rd or 4th year of the five year deals either.

These three clowns (Dembele, Coutinho, VVD) have signed those deals less than 12 months.

I agree with this. It's all well and good to laugh at pool and it may very well be very detrimental to them to lose their best player, but its sickening when the spanish clubs just pluck the best players from the pl teams when they choose. It's about time that the club says no and the players realize they can't just force their way to real or barca when they wish.
