Beckham, Van Nistelrooij, Heinze, Ronaldo, almost De Gea...

Beckham - Fergie wanted to sell
Van Nistelrooy - Fergie wanted to sell
Heinze - Fergie wanted to sell
Ronaldo - Wanted to go
De gea - Still 100% United #1

All the top players Liverpool have sold over the years I assume the were sold because they wanted to move onto bigger clubs and not because you choose to sell them?

Quite arguable that they wouldn't get him but I'd have thrown money and wages at Bernardo Silva.
Exactly. Replacing Coutinho will be very difficult for Liverpool, even if it's not as difficult as replacing Suarez.

I'm at work right now. When I come back, I'll find the posts of Liverpool fans saying that Saints have no option to sell VvD after he handed in the transfer request

Wheres the talk of alli and eriksen coming from as potential coutinho replacement? Spurs to Liverpool is a step backwards in every conceivable way these days

And replacing Coutinho with who?

Lanzini is probably the most gettable 'similar' player (for 50-60m). They can also get Sigurdsson. Both are not as good but will do a job.

A more ambitious route is to throw 90m at Spurs for Eriksen, offer Eriksen proper wages, and give him the other 10m as a signing bonus. He'll be handing in a transfer request in no time.

I think FSG have actually handled this well, forcing Coutinho to hand in a transfer request so they don't face a backlash from the supporters.

I'm not surprised they're resisting all offers, they really can't afford to sell him. I can see Klopp quitting if he goes.

Well documented about the Beckham situation.

RvN knew he was leaving before the league cup final as he was causing problems with Ronaldo. He also held us back in the system we were playing at the time. He's also the best goalscorer I've seen at United and I still feel he left at the right time.

Heinze, really? We sold him to Madrid as he wanted a transfer to Liverpool, there was no coming back for him. We also had Evra who was entering his peak then, no brainer really.

Ronaldo had an agreement with SAF to give us one more season which he did, we stuck to our part so he went the season later for a world record fee at the time.

Out of the four players mentioned, I'd say only Heinze and RvN forced us to sell them.

Am a little shocked he has asked to leave, if im honest.

Never thought he have the balls.

South-americans, soon as the big spanish 2 come knocking they are pretty much out the door.

Cant say Coutinho has ever been s player that worried me when playing Liverpool so don't really care if he stays or goes

If I was Pool, get top dollar and go all fecking out for Erikssen (or if you can turn his head, Alli).
Splash all of it (huge wages, sign on bonus etc) on either.

Problem being that LPool would do the hard part of tiresome negotiations with Levy only for a bigger club to come in and gazump them. If Erikssen moves I can see him going abroad anyway.

I felt the same way. Maybe I perceived it wrong as I thought Coutinho would be too timid to risk annoying the fans. Maybe desperate times call for desperate measures? Either way the bigger the circus around them the better, going into the new season.

I was only being half serious of course. However, 2 players in 7 years (Coutinho leaving is still a big if at the moment) isn't really that much imo, especially if you consider Barcelona's appeal to South American players. They are a bigger and more succesful club than Liverpool, there's no point discussing that. I guess there are several big clubs in Europe who've seen 2 or 3 players leave for Barcelona in those seven years.

There may well be word from Barcelona that they need someone of that type and that if it's not Coutinho they'll get someone else. Basically, either you join us now or never.

Would be a good post if it made any sense..

Yeah I agree.

It blatantly obvious Coutinho doesn't want to stay. The media have been briefed on this, despite our resident LFC fans saying otherwise, for the past couple of weeks. Coutinho isn't happy and doesn't want to be an LFC player anymore. Its that simple. That leaves FSG with two options;

1) Sell him for a good fee but annoy Klopp and fans given you haven't delivered in the transfer market.

2) Keep him and turn down all offers. Make Coutinho force it then sell so you don't look bad.

Whatever happens he has to go but at least this way they can reduce the backlash.

I actually think FSG want to sell as I don't think there is a 200m war chest and I think they need the money.

If I was Barca's rep this is exactly what I would've said to Coutinho. Now or never. He's an excellent player, but there are other options who are just as good, if not better. This wasn't the case with Suarez. There's other options such as Eriksen, and there was even talk of Griezmann down the line.

Barca can't afford to wait till next season, they lost probably the biggest asset in world football. They need replacements now...

Bigger wage tho. There isn't much apart the two clubs, more of a sideways move whilst getting signing on fee + better paid.

Apart from salaries :)

Coutinho is an exception at Liverpool no? I always thought their salaries were relatively modest.

Hopefully one day the footballers get smart, 150,000 a week over 5 years will get you more than 30million, if it were me I'd be asking the club for 10 grand a week for 40 years, show some commitment and get paid decades after retirement

Ahahahaha. You can tell poor old Robin is having a mini-meltdown. If you even bothered to research that before posting you would look less of an idiot.

The same sources that declared today's Coutinho Barca unveiling are also now feeding this story with new revelations. Agents looking for a huge payday.

LFC press office deny any request has been made.

Contracts over a certain length aren't allowed.

If PC wanted to leave Liverpool should have started to plan for that sooner... Any chance for Liverpool to sneak into Gylfi Sigurðsson deal before Everton snaps him up?

If you believe Coutinho is happy and wants to stay at the club you're living on another planet.

The media are being briefed. It's obvious all is far from well and the player wants out. There's also a mysterious back injury and he's not playing against Watford.

Just means Coutinho wouldn't get a sum of money for loyalty bonus or whatever when transfer happens with added bonus of pissing off Liverpool fans.

Why would a player do it then? If it costs him a couple of million and achieves nothing meaningful?

At this stage of the window, with the season starting tomorrow and a CL qualifier on Wednesday - we really and absolutely cannot.

Of course he wants to leave, that doesn't mean he will though.

Liverpool are obviously going to deny any allegations of a transfer request considering they released an official statement just this morning saying he's not for sale.

This whole situation makes them look incompetent to say the least. They're trying to save face, or rather clean the egg on their face.

So what if he hands in a transfer request ? 5 years left on his contract. No chance he sulks for a year in the hope of forcing the move given he needs to perform to make the Brazil team.

Having been through this with Ronaldo I'll tell you now, he'll leave.

The issue you have with trying to keep him for one more season is Barca won't be available to him next time around due to them being done over with the Neymar release clause. It's either now or never for Coutinho as Barca aren't going to wait around when the president needs to appease the fanbase and bring in a new show pony.

He'll sulk till August 31st. Then stop and start playing/performing again.

Inflation means you are getting less in the long run. Money now is worth more than the same amount of money in the future.

What footballers should do is really start taking investing seriously. A few have but you should be seeing a lot more high end businesses around the UK and Europe owned by footballers.

Liverpool should be researching every release clause in Spain right now.
What about Costa on loan until Jan? Drop Firminho deeper?
It gives them more than enough time
