To be honest, I don't really understand what purpose a transfer request has in English football apart from perhaps impacting some loyalty bonus in their contract should they transfer. But apart from alienating fans, there's no legal impact that forces a club to do anything is there?

Nope.

That'll probably be denied at some point, but right now lets just admire Pip's timing on that move

It's basically 'just' the player putting his money where his mouth is - Forfeiting a sum by saying he is really serious.

Loses loyalty bonus if there are any.

'Hey guys, since you've made a statement saying you won't sell me, I want to officialy hand in a transfer requ-
'FIVE TIMES LA FIVE TIMES LA FIVE TIMES LA FIVE TIMES LA FIVE TIMES LA'
Can't help but laugh at the whole situation, what a rollercoaster. I'd much rather he stayed another year and we parted ways amicably since this saga (if true) will stain his stay at Liverpool a bit for me, but we'll see how it ends. I can imagine he is unhappy because we deny him his dream move but sometimes you just gotta take it on the chin, why else sign a new 5-year contract six months ago (and no, I haven't said the opposite re Van Dijk).

It only serves the selling clubs well really.

"Look fans, we wanted to keep him. Rejected all bids. But he requested a transfer and refused to play for us."

Footballers are, most of the time, just petty cnuts who'll jump the better ship at any occasion available. But let's not fool ourselves, who wouldn't?

This is why it's not worth investing in Latin players. At least if, god forbid, they ever came knocking for our Jesse, we'd have a better chance of keeping him.

Let's hope this effects their game against Watford....Coutinho going or not...this hopefully has a detrimental effect on their squad...so let's hope for an implosion soon... RAWK will give us some comedy gold soon.

Yup.

Even if he ends up staying, this whole thing is already fecking with our season since he apparently doesn't have a back injury but won't play tomorrow regardless. Not a very good way to start the season.

If I were Coutinho, I would be pissed.
1) A chance to go to one of the biggest clubs in the world
2) Play alongside the likes of Messi/Suarez
3) Move out of gloomy and wet Liverpool to sunny Barcelona
4) LFC are getting bucket load of money for him.

The club are just so small time and silly really aren't they?

3 hours ago, the board says hes not for sale at any price.

Klopp tells reporters that Coutihno has a back problem and he's continuing to be a professional.

Hours later, the player submits a formal transfer request!

To me it all looks very small time and apparent there isnt any communication between the owners and the player! If anythig the owners are very out of touch with the cureentngoings on at LFC and now they look more silly.

Liverpool are and always will be a selling club, Torres, Alonso and Suarez to name a few.

The best thing LFC can do now is get 95million for him and buy a couple of decent players before the window ends. Prices will be higher and clubs will know LFC are gonna try replace him ASAP so they can name their price. This should of been sorted weeks ago.

Anyway its their year and their gonna walk the league!

You shouldn't give him too much stick if he leaves. From his perspective, Barca can fill their Neymar sized hole with someone else if he decides to stay now, so they may not be interested in him next summer. And you can't blame him for being attracted to Barca, of course.

He has also signed a new contract which ensures Liverpool get a good fee and hasn't kicked up a fuss like Sterling, so I'd say he deserves respect from your fans even if he leaves.

I'm more interested in their game against Hoffenheim in 4 days. Imagine the meltdown should they lose their best player and CL football in the span of 2 weeks.

Liverpool wouldn't want to make this public so soon after their statement, they'll be trying to convince Coutinho it's over in private imo

If this is true, then feck off.

I don't blame Coutinho for wanting to go to Barcelona, heck, almost every player dreams of playing for them, but the timing is horrendous and I have no idea who could replace him, never mind provide the much needed reinforcements in the rest of the squad.

As I previously wrote, we were supposed to reinforce our squad significantly this summer, and instead we could have a situation, one day before the season starts, where our transfer activity is limited to an okayish left back, a 19-year old striker and having replaced our best player with a lesser version of him. I really can't understand what FSG are doing, if this is true.

Yep, Liverpool would have done much better if they signed Robert Snodgrass instead of Coutinho a few years ago. Wouldn't have angled for a move to Spain, that lad.

Agreed. He's been offered the chance to play alongside the likes of Iniesta & Messi for one of the greatest clubs in world football. I also thought he'd still be here until next year, but hey, he's done nothing but act brilliant in his time here, and I wish him nothing but luck if he does end up moving on.

Also, if I recall correctly, doesn't handing in a transfer request mean the player doesn't get a percentage of their transfer fee?

"Publically"? In what way? Wouldn't we have actual quotes if so?

Well the transfer request signals that he actively wants to go. Before that it seemed he was neutral on the whole matter, but even then he was holding his cards close to his chest.

Liverpool should have sold him weeks ago to buy a replacement. Now things are getting more complicated. More fun for us i guess

Yup, that's pretty much the damage that's done when there's a transfer request. Club can still tell everybody to feck off and not sell but this will end with him being booed by the fans, there's a possibility of him downing his tools, whatever happens how it's gone to shit. I think that your board fecked it up too a bit to be fair, that statement about not letting him go when he obviously wants to, it's just didn't help anybody, ditto whole Barca-Neymar-PSG shenanigans. If they've kept it all under the carpet, bought Dembele for like 100 mil first and done all their other business before selling Neymar, they wouldn't get as skinned. But they decided to play it hard and got outplayed in the end.

I'm all for point scoring, but this is a load of bollox.

Yeah I´m sure he did that. He admitted to the club that he is faking an injury to no-show training and games, so Liverpool can fine him €100k or more daily. Do these people live in the real world?

Oh how much im loving the fat brazilian lady singing over these L'pool fans

Should just sell him. He's nowhere close to the level of Suarez, who was irreplaceable. The owners should take the ~£90m for him and laugh all the way to the bank.
