Philippe Coutinho

Is he? I feel he just writes a lot of crap and hopes it sticks.

Not really. See his previous articles in the last month and which one of them has been proven false. He was the first one to say Alves to PSG when everyone thought he was off to City.

I think all genuine football fans should want to see Coutinho sign for a proper club capable of playing at the highest level and winning the biggest trophies. Liverpool playing in the qualify for the Champions League cup each season is simply not good enough. Coutinho needs to play for one of the elite teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid, us or PSG. His talent demands it.

That's very disengous towards Liverpool. Players don't have a right to play for these 'elite' teams. Furthermore, let's be perfectly honest, Utd don't belong in that group based on last few years.

French media were first on Alves to PSG, but Castles seems to be spot on regarding Coutinho, with the major Brazilian outlets reporting the same news.

Isn't Duncan Castles a huge United fan? I should have known he would be revelling in tweeting about Coutinho to Barca.

Maybe I'm giving us way too much credit right now but I would like to think we already have a replacement lined up for him should we indeed sell him, would be mad otherwise. Of course it's still madness so close to our season opener but nothing surprises me anymore.

We're denied our #1 target this summer, who desperately wanted to join us, because his club didn't want to sell him. Surely we know that we would be able to keep Coutinho if we simply keep our "not for sale" stance... It's a WC year, he'll be happy to play once it's clear he isn't going to be sold. Still though, it'll be a very tense few days 'till Saturday.

Hadn't been convinced this transfer was going to happen much less that it was the right fit but after Bartomeu had been resoundingly booed & whistled during the Congress of Penyas yesterday - there is likely to be some panic in their approach to close deals, i.e. fleecing in process

I still have my doubts about that supposed back injury as well. We will know for sure by Saturday but it really isn't a good build up to the opening game.

It's not as easy as "finding a replacement" IMO. Coutinho has been nurtured at L'pool and groomed into a central cog in the team, which has taken years. Huge blow for the scouse. Even if they spend he money on new players it will take time to get them into such an influential role as Coutinho's.

Nothing is 'impossible' anymore after Neymar's saga. It changed everything. Liverpool might have a strong stance in this, but the pressure from Barca is far stronger imo. I don't think they're willing to wait for another season.

Interesting to see what happens , one of the more reliable sources at LFC Melissa Reddy said a short time ago:

A reminder of #LFC's stance on Phil Coutinho this summer: "Not for sale"

Well we arent winning the biggest trophies either. Can barely get into the cl nevermind winning it and nowhere near our league. Maybe we don't deserve pogba and ddg.

Love me some duncan rubbing his bald head in the faces of rival fans.
A liverpool fan saying this-

Yeah, I don't understand why they are being blamed for this situation. Nothing they could have done about it.
"Not for sale, feck off Barcelona" isn't really that hard to say and maintain. Leizpig did the same to us.

It's hard to refuse the big two in Spain, regardless of who you are. We nearly sold DDG to Madrid (and not for lack of our cooperation) when they came in for him on deadline day. Most players consider them the pinnacle of club football so they're desperate not to miss their chance to move whereas other big clubs are mostly interchangeable. I suspect VVD would be satisfied going to Chelsea or Liverpool, for example.

Plus both RM and Barca are experts at tapping players up to the extent the situation becomes untenable. I don't know what the truth of Coutinho's attitude is, but it's quite possible the owners feel they have no choice. I never got the feeling Keita was that desperate to come to you.

Except the wish of the player subject to the transfer isn't totally irrelevant. My guess is that Coutinho is a bit more interested in joining Barca than Keita is in joining Liverpool. Which is not really that puzzling if you ask me ;)

Maybe he isn't as bad as I originally suggested but I'm still not really convinced by him as a journalist. He's yo-yoed a bit on Bale and most of what he writes on Mourinho is still about getting the excuses in or hyperbolising the huge task at hand.

I can't think of one time where he's had a real scoop - as someone else said, the French media broke the Alves news and Castles has latched onto it. Even this Coutinho story has had plenty of mileage before he's weighed in with his wishy-washy article.

Really, this Kaveh guy? Duncan was the first to report about United making a serious offer for Pogba too.

I don't really care for him being right or not, it's just directly conflicting Castles' point, who has never really been reliable for Liverpool news. Maybe the Liverpool fans can attest to that. I know all about the Castles Pogba bid, btw. It's all anyone ever goes on about.

Castles is good for Manchester Utd news right now as it's well known he's Mourinho's mouthpiece in the press. With most other clubs the info he gets seems to be plucked directly from his arse.

No matter what way anyone spins it, it is bad news for Liverpool. Look at Spurs after the Bale money, they are stronger now, but that was partly by the luck of bringing in Ali and Kane coming good. I don't think Liverpool will replace Coutinho with anyone near as good as he is.

This is what I think. He'll want to move, but sort of have an agreement in place and he will sort of understand that he has to stay as you haven't got anybody lined up to cover his loss. It may affect his performances if his head is elsewhere we'll see.

I still doubt that he is going to leave. It would be a monumental feck up. There is no way to replace him like for like. Should be easy to tell him "too little too late, next year we'll allow you to leave for XYZ£, if you make no problems".

James Pearce of the ECHO, one of the more reliable sources:

"Liverpool remain adamant that Philippe Coutinho is staying put as the Brazilian battles to prove his fitness in time for Saturday’s Premier League opener at Watford.

Senior Anfield officials have rubbished reports in Spain that the Reds are involved in negotiations with a delegation from Barcelona who flew into the UK today.
Liverpool insist there are no talks because their position remains unchanged that Coutinho isn’t for sale at any price during the current window.

Coutinho reported back to Melwood as planned on Tuesday after Jurgen Klopp gave his squad two days off following Saturday’s 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao.

The 25-year-old didn’t train with his team-mates as he continues to have treatment on the sore back which forced him to sit out the trip to Dublin.

There are no issues or concerns about Coutinho’s attitude around the club. He has been fully committed in training during pre-season and shone in the wins over Hertha Berlin and Bayern Munich, but has been sidelined since a back issue flared up during last week’s Audi Cup."

I have a feeling in the coming days Liverpool are going to try and picture themselves as strongly adamant to sell in the media while pushing forward the idea that Coutinho is villain of all sorts before the inevitable happens so they can save their face in front fans. Pretty standard tactics.

They will sell him when the price is right.. His head is already turned and the difference to VVD and Keita is that Barcelona haven´t turned his head without approaching Liverpool first..

You don't even have to go as far as looking at Spurs. You can just look at Liverpool and what they did with the Suárez money. feck all, in case anyone's wondering.
