Phil Jones | Exit Speculation

If this is true then it's quite obvious (if it already wasn't) that Jose is slowly but steady getting rid of deadwood.

He's still young enough for CB to make a decent career, but coping with so many injuries over the years didn't do him any good.

I really liked him as a player when he first signed for United, seemed like he has everything in his locker to make it here, but injuries aside, he's shown little progress over the years- constantly having problems with positioning which led him into making last sec tackles (for which he would then be praised when something like that shouldn't have happend in the first place), his passing didn't improve and he was easily bullied by opposition players, everything opposite of Smalling who made necessary step up in his game.

Wish him all the best in making a name for himself in the game, with hope he'll get his injuries problems behind him.

Not happy about this really. A loan would be great, but selling him is pretty stupid. We will be letting him go for peanuts and if he gets over his injury issues he could go on to become a great CB.

Im not in favour of getting rid of Jones unless we have a suitable replacement. I know Jose has a good injury record under his management but we have been plagued with defensive injuries at some point in the last 5 seasons and it's cost us dear. We require 4 centre backs and I know Jones hasnt played much and is a injury liability but we require the numbers as there is still question marks over Bailly's consistency and Blind's reliability against top opposition. We don't want to see the likes of Carrick playing again in defence.

He'll be 30 and on the brink of retirement and we'll still see people saying "If he can stay fit..."

He's 24 and way behind in his development due to never ending injuries. He's not going to suddenly become injury free and even if he does he's absolutely not going to become a great CB.

He may well go on to be a solid mid/lower table PL player but that's about it.

He's one of those defenders who will be heralded as brilliant for an amazing last ditch sliding tackle, whilst completely ignoring the fact that the last ditch sliding tackle was only needed because of shitty positioning and poor reading of the game.

Get rid of both Jones and Rojo. I don't even care all that much if Fonte or anyone else comes in at this point. Bailly is the real deal, Blind is performing and Smalling was our best defender last season (DdG aside). José doesn't rotate much but keeps his squads well managed and tend to keep players off the injury list.

If they both leave we'll have Blind as LB backup with Darmian and Riley as options. Right-back is covered. More importantly, we have three strong options at central defence and it should give opportunities to TFM (who i'd want given a chance in midfield but ye know, can also play RB), Tuanzebe (who is too good for the reserves) & also Williams.

Get rid. You can't keep around players that are injured as much as Jones, even as a squad player. He simply can't be relied on.

We've got 3 fantastic young CBs coming through (Tuanzebe, Williams, Poole, and also Fosu-Mensah possibly might develop into a CB in the long term), plus Bailly (22), Smalling (26), and Blind (26) all have long careers still ahead of them. Why on earth are people so desperate to keep sicknote Jones about? There's a reason he's nicknamed Calamity Jones.

Off you toddle Phil. Your faces were amusing, but your footballing was embarrassing.

He missed almost all of the 12/13 season.
He missed the 2nd half of the 13/14 season
He missed the 1st half of the 14/15 season, and a 4 matches at the end of the season.
He missed almost all of the 15/16 season.

Every. fecking. Season.

We'll be lucky to get £10m for him.

Shhht, some stoke official might be browsing general opinion of the biggest united forum on their future purchase and see this shit. That's another 5 million off his price.

Its best for him to move on.

On his day (which is rare) he is a decent defender. Not one of the smartest defenders out there but he should do well at Stoke (providing he can keep fit - which would be an achievement in itself)

Jones and Shawcross. What a shirt pulling combo.

I'd be happy if we can sell Jones and bring in Fonte. He does need to be replaced though. We can't afford to go into the season with just three centre backs.

So, fitness permitted, you would very well like to be a horse? Makes posting on the Caf a bit of a chore.

ah my sense of humour is lost in here. Jones, injured Horse, glue factory...anything?

Really wouldn't mind if he's sold. Do hope he manages to carve out an actual career and get past the injury nightmare that's plagued him. But I'd much rather sell him than Darmian for example.

Jones is a good player, and he can still improve. Maybe he'll go to Stoke and Arsenal will want to sign him next season :wenger:

After all these years I'd still like to know. Were your two legendary stories on how you meat Fergie naughty wums in your younger years?

Just like Raf...he is a decent defender but simply to injury prone to be relied upon. I hope he and rojo are sold.

well you should know considering that you're the Nostradamus of football. Is that post related to Phil Jones or is it just me who get banned whenever I take the discussion off track?

Jones is awaiting Rafael's fate hopefully.

He has the physical ability but is pretty brainless charging forward and leaving gaps in defence. Add to that we have had to play the best part of a season with him on the bench, injured.

I will be sorry to see him go

Injuries have been a bitch. Still maintain he would have been better than Smalling if he had stayed fit

Quite

I think many still hold high expectations on him becoming a great player due to comments attributed to Sir Alex and Allardyce when he was purchased. Unfortunately, injuries have hampered his development and career.

"Next Duncan Edwards, future United and England captain"

A loan would make no sense. Stoke have to the cash to stump at least 10m for him. I'd be insistent if I was on the United side of negotiations.

To be fair, there was a point when not many thought Smalling or Evans could go injury free for more than a few months either. Could be a good signing for Stoke if he manages to sort himself out.

I remember him being immense in his first couple of games. I always rated him but he's been totally ruined by injuries, we'll never know how good he could have been had he been given a proper development.

Says it all that there is not even a whiff of a top club enquiring about him.

How fans of any side could be excited by the prospect of Jones joining them I just don't know.

Hey, I thought I was the funny one. Maybe we are just misunderstood by our time and people will look back on us,rolling on the floor laughing their lungs out in the not too distant future?

FFS when will we actually sell someone. Rojo, Darmian, Jones, Young - all look to be staying.

He's become something of a figure of fun in recent years. Talented though he is, we need to move players lie him on as they're not good enough and will only detract from the confidence of the squad when they're still hanging around.

I won't be surprised buddy.
