Well if we've got him in the shop window I don't think this photo on the United website will do him any favours.

Why Jones wears blue? Isn't he much of the disability player?

Punt intended

Fabio Capello lavished praise on the teenager, claiming Jones reminded him of “Franco Baresi and Fernando Hierro”.

And Capello compared him to two of the best defenders you'll ever see.

Add in Wenger's love for the kid and you have three of greatest, most decorated football managers in history seeing something special in Jones. It almost like they think they know more about football than the Caf :wenger:

Fellaini and Valencia have done enough to be in the first team now but I think Jones has found his level.

The Daily Mail say that Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Leicester are in for him (seriously!?) but Mourinho doesn't want to strengthen a title rival. Well, it's Phil Jones so crack on!

Jones was meant to be part of our first choice CB partnership with Blind last season, before he got injured and Smalling took his place.

Now if Mourinho keeps him, that's 4 highly decorated managers - Fergie, Capello, LvG and JoMou, who rate the guy.

Sure, his body might well turn out to be incompatible with top flight football, and that's a damn shame, but he isn't gash and isn't a talentless hack.

With complete respect to LCFC.....surely we could let him go there?

Makes zero sense to sell him on the cheap right now.

Maybe similar to Arsenal with Wilshere we should loan him out for half a season?

It might not be that Mourinho necessarily rates him. Perhaps he is still around because of squad depth, or maybe we just can't get rid of him.

I believe in Phil Jones. Sell Rojo please, but let him stay or give him a wilsheresque loan.

Time we joined the inflated market when selling players. £25 million for Jones please or no deal, some nutters would pay it. As good as Woody has been bringing in players the past few years our own player valuations have been a joke!

Sell both. Having them here will have no net benefit over a season.

That argument gets brought up alot on the Caf these days, especially in defence of players like Rooney (4 consecutive managers have played him and made him Captain + Woy) and Fellaini (ditto) etc.

Agreed that it adds a measure of "validity" to an argument (but not in the case where it's a player's own manager or NT coach - that could be laced with bias/confidence boost or propaganda) but it's a bit weird to end with "a decorated manager surely knows more than us armchair critics on the Caf".

Then indeed, what's the point of discussion - we might as well just copy + paste, article after article, from "football experts" on players instead.

Not sure why he's still here really.
He's a good back up. He didnt turn out to be the player some thought he could be, but he's not a bad player when fit. Now he is fit and could step if needed. If he's good enough with that, dont sell him. Better to have him than Rojo

"When fit" - he's never bloody fit which means he isn't much of a backup to have.

The new Ando survives again. Very, very weird.

No one wants a player who spends 80% of the season on the treatment table. If he wasn't English(homegrown and stuff) I reckon we would let him go long time ago, and he would have at least 50% less fans. He literally did nothing in his career apart from having couple of good games per season so far yet many people want him as a starter once the season start for years now. There is still time for him to become good player but there's also time for many other players and I doubt it will happen.

It's the same with the likes of Hart and Wilshere, apparently very good to world class players who were certain starters for England and they end up in a fecking Torino and Bournemouth even though they were free. No other decent teams wanted them. Same would happen with Rooney, I can see only some average English clubs go for him if we were selling him, yet many here think we should build the team around him this year again and are happy to see Martial and Mata benched just so he can play. Even during his better periods three years ago only Chelsea wanted him because they couldn't find decent striker and weren't ready to pay more than 30m for him. And that was before everyone noticed he is in decline.

@Revan just called Jones the new Anderson

Anderson was not English, yet was very popular and many wanted to see him given chances. So no the reason many want the same for Jones is not because of where he is from

Reason is because both players showed a lot pf promise and its quite sad and hard to accept when they have not fulfilled it

I was hopefully with Ando right till the bitter end. And I am with Jones too.

Yeah, I didn't say there waren't examples of non English players in the same situation, Ando is obviously very similar to this. I just think it happens more with English players in English clubs, that's why I gave examples of players who are far more rated by their clubs and English fans than they actually worth.

One thing is to express your opinion, another thing is when people present their opinion like its based on some elite football knowledge, when in reality huge majority of football fans know feck all about football when it comes to that level.

He looked class in his first season before slowly descending into a giant insanity chicken flailing about the pitch every game under Moyes and LVG. Shows what a good manager can do so I'm willing to see how he does under Jose for a season and if not, get rid.

He's not even been in a match day squad despite being fit yet has he?

Nope. So far, only one defender seems to make Mourinho's bench. First few weeks it was Rojo, but now Smalling is back it has been him.

I'm not sure they'll have heard of him over in China and he's not exactly the most marketable football around with the head on him and his style of playing like a dog chasing a tennis ball.

We'll prob have to decide on taking a small fee or loaning him and covering a portion of his wages if we want him off the books. That 4 year contract last summer looks I'll advised now.

Sell him with a buy back option. Needs to play a lot of games again which he won't here, even if he stays fit.
Better to let him try to find his feet somewhere else soon rather than discard him when he's 27-29.

Based on all the evidence we have of him & our current options I will be amazed if he plays another 30 games for us. Shame he has become such a huge donut.

If he doesn't start as a center half in the league cup or Europa league matches coming up, surely he's gone. He's getting to be a fairly deep reserve at this point. I'm curious to see if he gets a start in these coming matches that Mourinho has repeatedly said he'd use the squad for.

Poor bastard.
Yep. From a practical perspective though you want your squad players to be available to cover first team injuries and suspensions. If theyre always injured themselves then they arent really beneficial.
