Should look for a new club in January.
It is. 5 designated CBs should be enough, I would advocate to have Tuanzabe in the squad nxt year in place of Darmian though. Let him have some minues at RB and if possible at his favored CB. See how he develops. That's too many CBs though. Even if we do let Jones leave it still feels one too heavy.
Would be a rout. Only 2-3 United fans and a handful of non Utd fans would want us to keep Jones.@ Mods can we add a poll here?. Keep Jones, Let him go on a free? I would be interested to see
Because of the fact that we cannot get a 5th CB any cheaper.Great, let' settle for another mediocre season next year with c*ap CB's. Take Jones and Smalling out of your list and add another CB then we will be talking. Why would you advocate to keep Jones. Guy is either injured or making gaffs in games. He isnt even very good
Because of the fact that we cannot get a 5th CB any cheaper- Replace him with Tuanzebe or Fosu-Mensah in the squad
Because he is homegrown- Tuanzebe has that sorted
Because of continuity and that he is a popular member of the squad- Popularity in the squad doesn't win you titles or boost team morale from the sickbed or the bench, you're basically saying he's a highly paid cheerleader.
Because of the upside that he has if he stays injury free- How many times have people said this over the years? Jones fitness record is not going to magically improve with age. There's no upside to a 26 year old with an injury plagued career
Its wrong to compare Jones to a new topclass CB, he should be compared to what we can have at 5th CB. The money in wages is needed at other places in the squad- 5th, 6th or 7th you will always get the same result with Jones and will never get what you're paying for. His contribution doesn't measure up to the needs of a top club. Tuanzebe can comfortbaly take that position and be readily available when called upon.
1. Can do. Just bring back Tuanzebe in January.Because of the fact that we cannot get a 5th CB any cheaper.

That montage of Phil Jones OG's floating around is hilarious. How many has he had for United? Must be a record for a United player.
It's actually amazing how naturally it comes to him . He scored all types of own goals. Perhaps we should play him upfront instead of Lukaku?

Sometimes I wonder about this place. Calling people stupid and names for having the audacity to suggest that a 26-year old English international who has been at the clup for quite awhile now should remain in the squad next year? Grow the feck up and try to argue your point instead. You must be on a WUM. You cannot be that stupid. Good to keep him because he is popular and good for continuity. Jesus Christ we are a football club who should be striving to win things. Having players like Jones, Valencia, Young, Darmian Rojo in the squad we will win absolutely nothing. He is not even good enough
The fact that almost everyone who read your post and also thought you were stupid speaks volumes for the standard and content of your post. If you want to push an argument for Jones to remain at the club as a 5th choice because he is popular and you like continuity at the club then it is no wonder with fans like you whilst we have accepted the s*ite we are currently being served up with week and week out.Sometimes I wonder about this place. I stand by that we should keep Jones around next year.
The worst thing we can do is to get rid of too much experience at once. If Tuanzebe stays injury free and performs the rest of the season he deserves to be in the squad next year. Thats it for me though when it comes to promoting youngsters for next season. We already have Dalot who is finding his feet as well. Thats quite enough.
I really hope that we dont make the same mistake squad-wise as we did this year at CM: including two youngsters like McTominay and Pereira (young in experience from the PL at least) and then not play them. Its detrimental to their development and not good for the club either.
One had been enough this year at CM and give that player a serious chance instead.
Tuanzebe will need minutes next year and its logical that he gets those from a player like Jones if he shows that he is good enough.
When it comes to Jones, if he is happy to stay at the club and fight for his place, we will not get a cheaper alternative back in the line at CB. I rather shell out for one real top player as Koulibaly or Aldeweireld and let that be it for the defense next summer.
Rojo and Darmian to leave.
Serious investment is needed at CM and for me a new #9 to replace/compete with Lukaku. That will be expensive and I rather spend the money there.
This is whats call arguing your point. Try it.
He's up there with Anderson when it comes to wasters who have stole a living at this club.
You are quite right in that respect. Although i can remember which game he clattered a player and hurt the player and himself in the process. The biggest myth about him is being good when fit. Jones is a liability when fit and has shown it over and over. All that is happening is that the longer Jones is out of the team the more people forget his bad play. The cycle repeats itself.

Jones did manage to injure himself and Smalling in training once. The lad must be a bit slow because he constantly gets injured in training, probably from doing those crazy last ditch tackles that contort his body in mysterious ways.
People who go through mental gymnastics to advocate keeping this absolute trash around need help.
Yeh.. I wish there's a team stupid enough to buy this "A 26-year old English International" without us has to release him on free. And buy one, they'll also get "a 28-year old Argentinian International" as bonus.
Keep him around for continuity? For feck sake.
We don't want continuity! The last 6 years have been dogshit.
We want and we need huge change, and getting rid of players like Jones who have been blatantly not good enough for years and years is a start of that needed change.
It staggers me we still have Utd fans who want to keep Jones. It's baffling.
Should fly a banner over Old Trafford telling him to piss off.
The amount of dead wood still at the club is unbelievable. Phil Jones leaving the club will be a big step in the right direction. He is a travesty and it is an absolute embarrassment that he is still at the club. The FA Cup final was the final straw for me, I can’t believe he wasn’t sold after that.
This quote from Alan Shearer comes to mind. "everything is last-ditch with Phil Jones, if I was a centre forward playing against him I would be confident he would make at least one mistake." That says it all as a striker as good as Shearer knows he is probably going to score against him when he makes that mistake.
Good forwards force defenders into making errors. With Jones, they don't have to.
Extensions for Fellani and Smalling. Keeping Jones after he turned into a piece of glass as well as just a flat out shite player. Keeping Rojo, a disgusting CB who always looks like he's trying to two foot someone or score a screamer from 45 yards out.
We keep dross like Jones around, we should not expect to compete for anything meaningful. If he's still here next season, I'm gonna guess Mourinho is here as well.
