Arsenal have a good enough team to challenge for the title but won't. It'll be the same story as always. They'll be up right there until christmas, then they go on a 2 month vacation and then come back to finish on a good note.

That was hardly their script last season to be fair. They started horribly then from around Christmas, I think they lost only one or two games. They need to be consistent throughout the season to win the league...that's all there is to it really. A few seasons ago they used to start well then from around February, they would usually start losing and drawing many winnable games. Last season was the total opposite to that.

Wenger got his script mixed, they weren't supposed to start losing until christmas.

What if Arsenal win their first title in 10+ years and it's due to us giving them Cech and massively improving them.

:wenger: :(

:D

top signing

two or three others - Kondogbia? a top striker and CB - and I really think Arsenal have the squad profile to win the league

great squad which is well balanced

Think we need a ball playing midfielder + striker and this squad should be challenging for the title.

I think you definitely need a striker. Someone like Cavani would make sense for Arsenal, just hope you don't sign Lacazette.

It doesn't look like PSG want to let him go and with the silly money he is on will he want to leave? Rumours of Ibra leaving this or next season, Cavani might be content to see his time out there.

I'm not convinced about Lacazette if I'm being honest. Though if I'm honest I haven't seen that much of him, from what I have seen in that team Fekir has impressed me more.

Thing with strikers are I can't see an obvious candidate. Really isn't much top quality on the market. I can only hope R.Madrid sign someone and there is a chance Benzema might become available. If we can't get a top quality striker maybe we should look at another quality wide player and just rotate between Alexis, Theo & Giroud in the middle.

I think Lacazette is the real deal, have to wait and see I suppose. Fekir is very good, one of the stand out players in that league, just Arsenal are stacked with attacking mids.

Can't see Benzema moving during the summer, but a massive signing for any club if he does -- best striker potentially on the market. What about Ibra for a season or two? Could do for Arsenal what RvP did for us -- short term fix, but might not be the worst thing in the world if there is a lack of class available.

Although, I did read that Ibra was less than impressed with Wenger making him try out back in the day.

I'll keep a closer eye on Lacazette next season. Another good season and there will be a lot of clubs sniffing around.

As for Ibra, I know I'll be in a minority here but I've never been a big fan. Seen him against us a few times and apart from one game he has never had a good game. In fact in the CL I have hardly ever seen him have a good game against top opponents. Flat track bully imo :nervous: As you say him and Wenger probably not on the best of terms either!

He's going to be an excellent signing for Arsenal, will bring the winning mentality to them and I can only see them winning more silverwear with him in goal over the next few years. Big shame he apparently doesn't want to move from London as I refuse to believe we aren't interested in him.

I remember when some posters laughed about it a few weeks ago that London wouldnt be a major factor.

In this case, it was. I dont know if we were interested, but Cech wanted to stay from the beginning there, so fair play to Arsenal for snapping him up.

Couldn't he go to Palace or West Ham?

:(:(:(:(:(

Playing in London for 100k per week with your family and life already there would be a no-brainer for a guy like Cech. Including the promise of first team football, I don't see how he would have passed that up. Fans need to get off their loyalty high horse and realize that at the end of the day, footballers are human and need to make decisions that won't always seem fanbased. They have their own lives to live.

Good move for him, 100k p/w for a veteran keeper - still plenty of good years in him, maybe even his best to come (like VDS and other old 'keepers). Also being reported Abramovich is 'giving' him 4 million as a leaving present.

No need to relocate, family in London, first team football.

He was being wasted at Chelsea, too good for the bench.

People need to stop panicking about the perceived threat from arsenal. They are still a centre mid, centre back, and striker away from having a top team. Way too much for wenger to get right in one window.

The line is sometimes thin between nothing and a success story. It only took us United the signing of a very talented Frenchman from Leeds to spark the beginning of an era. That is what I dread the most with Cech going to Arsenal.
He's a keeper for gods sake. That french man was someone you can build a team around, no one can realistically do that with a keeper no matter how good.

Cech is a legend of that club; one of the oil money originals. But I think he will establish a relationship with our fans quickly. Hopefully he'll win something here just so we can show him what a proper celebration and parade is like. He might not know for sure now but when he comes here, he'll realise how much bigger the club is than what he's used to and how much of an honour it is to play for London's biggest (by far) club. In fairness to Cech, he always seemed like a level headed and intelligent guy which is unusual for one of their players.

I'm sure he'll celebrate winning the league cup/FA cup/4th place trophy with the biggest club in London with just as much gusto as he did when he won the CL and the EPL with a much smaller and insignificant club, who also happen to be the current champions of England.

 Poor effort.

Obviously was winding but there are true elements to it too. Arsenal is a much bigger club and I'm sure he'll notice if he comes here.

I agree that bigger shirt sales, fanbase, notoriety and recent history puts us way behind. ;)

However even the longest historical evidence now suggests Chelsea - 1 Top European trophy Arsenal - 0

I dont mind Arsenal, half my family supports them, the other half Spurs. Unfortunately both of those are forever in our shadow now!

I think we have differing versions of the words forever. I mean we've won more trophies than you since Mourinho took over if I recall correctly. Arsenal aren't in Chelsea's shadow by any means mate.

If these reports are true, I think that's a magnificent signing for Arsenal and a bargain price.

Would have been top of my wish list for a replacement for De Gea if he leaves.

Cech has been a top keeper and Chelsea shouldn't have sold him to Arsenal but I think he is being overrated here because of our experience with VDS and because DDG is going to leave. He can go on to have a VDS like career end but there is no guarantee and at 33 he can just as easily go on a downward spiral too.

People give him far too much credit to assume he's on a wind up. I think he's genuinely just a bit clueless about football.
I don't know. He seems like a really smart guy. Just has a lot of really ridiculous opinions.

Dailystar's headline..

I can understand him wanting to stay in London but if we are letting go of De Gea and then I'm really gutted about losing out on Cech. With all the hoopla around transfer rumour, we might just lose him and Schneiderlin to Arsenal and that will be a big boost to our rivals!

This squad imbalance thing which people cry about is nonsense. SAF would have won the league multiple times with the squad which Arsene has had. Your lot are some of the biggest bottlers I have seen in the game and unless you change that mentality, Cech or no Cech, it won't make much of a difference.
