You may be slightly overrating Ferguson here. He was a brilliant coach but he also had some very good players alongside some world class ones. That side was not a poor team in my opinion.

One title with Arsenal. Are we talking about a scenario where all of our players at the time were fit or would Ferguson have to deal with the same injuries that Wenger had to deal with and contend with a Ronaldo inspired Man Utd and a Mourinho inspired Chelsea as well as a mediocre budget?

If we're talking after Ronaldo and Mourinho left, I still do not see how a side containing Olivier Giroud in his first few seasons, Gervinho, Andre Santos and Jenkinson are supposed to win the premier league.

I know everyone loves to say that we have underachieved over the past decade but that is only half true. The club itself underachieved during that period (only if you judge success by the standards that Wenger himself set), but the teams we've had have pretty much performed as expected, when you look at the quality of players and the teams we were competing against. We have had some pretty awful teams recently, just look at where the majority of our ex-players currently are for proof. We did not really play any beautiful football from the time Fabregas left until Ozil arrived but no one ever mentioned it.

This is a new look Arsenal and we will be stronger if Cech arrives but by no means are we ready to launch a full assault for the league title. If Coquelin goes down then we're back to Flamini starting and Giroud is far from good enough. There is still a lot of work to be done on this squad. If I'm honest I can't think of any manager who could have won the league with Arsenal over the past 9 years, except perhaps 2008

We had a lot of injuries during last few years. Even in 2009 our whole defense was injured or getting back from injury in some periods so Carrick and even Evra had to fill in CB positions. Not to mention the injuries in last 3, 4 years. Rafael, Smaling, Jones, Evans being injured every few games and so on..
So I'd say Ferguson dealt with a lot of injuries too.
And after Ronaldo left we had our well known midfield problem and our team gradually detoriating but won the league 2 times nevertheless.

I like Cech but people are overstating the effect he will have at Arsenal. He's an upgrade no doubt but he doesn't come across as some leader of men. And its been said before but this isn't the Cech before the head injury, still good but he used to be better.

I think that's the main point people were trying to put forward. You probably were performing as expected, but that's where Fergie was unique. He often got his teams to over perform.
I think you guys a just seriously underrating your team. 89 points two seasons in a row isn't just down to Fergie. How come he couldn't manage that with so called better squads?
Points total isn't necessarily a good indicator of the level of a team, but rather of the weakness of the league.

He's still one of the best in the league and I think he'll prove tha next season

Goalkeepers are supposed to save you points and he'd most likely do that at Arsenal. De Gea saved Utd no fewer that 8 points last season and that kind of thing is invaluable when coming down to the business end of the season.

Cech will save a few points for Arsenal. But that won't be enough for them to win the league. I don't think Ospina was a bad GK and made too many mistakes to concede goals. Arsenal still need a better Striker, DM and CB to win the league.

Bullshit best in the league behind Courtois and David and David will be gone soon enough I fear...

And Lloris is one of the least commanding keepers in his box that I've seen.

Best in the league behind Courtois and DDG? He's not a great shot stopper anymore, which Lloris and DDG are, he doesn't command his area like Courtois does, he doesn't decide games like DDG does, what exactly does he do to command that title? Live off past reputation?

OptaJoe - 78% - Petr Cech has posted the best saves to shots ratio of any goalkeeper in the @PremierLeague over the last three seasons. Barrier.

Yeah, you;re having a mare here.

He was immense in the CL run in 2012 and was very good 13/14 as well. His command of the area is still superb and is a top shot stopper.

1. DDG
2. Courtois
3.Cech.

I'm in the Ospina camp...very good goalkeeper. DM they already have Coquelin but another top one should be bought. Striker they need to find a way to play Walcott through the middle...he's their best finisher among the strikers they have and a CB they shouldn't break up the Kos/Mert partnership, it's critical to the stability of the back 5 to not change your CB's too often. One more for depth maybe though.

He's comfortably top 3 gk in the league, I don't understand why there's question about that.

Cech can't kick for shit like Lloris, that's why we aren't signing either of them. Van Gaal makes a point of saying 1-4-3-3 when someone asks him what formation he plays. The keeper has to be able to play football, the 2 above just boot it out of play more often than not.

I'll be interested to see how he gets on at Arsenal given he was dreadful under AVB's high line. Much better when he has a nice deep defence in front of him.

De Gea, Courtois, LLoris. That's 3 who are better than him. 2 definitely better, 1 arguably. Cech is up there but it's not cut and dried.
Arguably. For me Cech has been a clearly better gk, and much more proven and successful, over the years.
