Petr Cech | Signed for Arsenal

Chelsea got their transfers spot on last summer but selling Cech to Arsenal makes no sense. I understand the respect the club has for the man but they should still have stopped him from going to Arsenal, for a club that has been ruthless in the transfer market in the last few seasons this is just bizarre.

Great bit of business by Arsenal.

Excellent signing for Arsenal. They'll be a real threat next season with one or two more additions.

Class signing for Arsenal. I doubt Jose wanted to sell to them as I reckon they'll be big contenders this season.

Strange for Chelsea to let him go to Arsenal of all clubs. Surely there would have been other clubs interested abroad?

The rumor says that PSG offered him a contract, but he wanted to stay in London.

Really disappointing we we weren't even interested. But i guess he didn't want to leave London so we didn't even bother. Anyway good business from Arsenal.

I wouldn't have minded him here but I am not disappointed either. He wasn't really flawless for Chelsea in 2013/14 tbh.

A Cech in top form will be a huge upgrade and signing for them. Like someone said in another thread, his experience and leadership will help Arsenal's dodgy defence immensely. With another CB, CDM and ST, the feckers will be up there next season.

Rosicky just welcomed him on Instagram.

Rosicky doesn't have instagram ;)

Rumour has it when he learned Courtois would be No.1 last season he wanted to leave. Abramovich talked to him and gave him his word that he would let him choose any club he wanted if he stayed another season. Again if rumours are to be believed Mourinho has tried everything in his power to stop him joining us, offering him to Man Utd + PSG. Both clubs have supposedly made better wage offers but Cech wants to stay in London because his family is settled there. I think Mourinho has been hinting for weeks the decision isn't his and it is up to the owner. Getting his excuses in early in case he can't stop him joining us ;) Cech has given them 10+ years of top service and has a good relationship with Abramovich and the higher powers at Chelsea. I think they will respect his wish.

No keeper was flawless last season as well. One thing for sure is he is significantly better than our current options and hopefully can give us 4 or 5 top class years while we find our long term option. Kinda like Van der Saar did for you guys.

Can't see us signing another CB, the other two positions I think we are definitely working on things.

He's not been hinting, he flat out said he does not want to sell Cech to another English side but it's not his call....

“For me, decision number one, Petr will stay. After that, second point, to go but not in England. The option I don’t want is for him to go to an English club. But, I repeat, I am just the manager and he means so much for this club and what he did in this club, I think he deserves everything from this club. If the club decision is different to mine I will accept it.”

That makes sense.

Forgot about those quotes, how do the Chelsea fans feel about Cech potentially joining us?

Personally, I kind of admire the sacrifice he is making for the sake of his family. It would be easy for him to move to a top side but he is willing to slum it so that his kids don't have to move schools.

Cheeky little git, I think your user tag needs updating ;)

In all seriousness, Cech could have kicked up a stink last year but he didn't. Even without the decade of service (and, not to be overly dramatic but nearly dying for the cause), that alone means I'll hope he does well at Arsenal.

I'd wish him well if he moved to literally any other club. Even United.

Our board or owner allowing him to go there is infuriating.

Great buy for Arsenal, they'll benefit immensely from his quality and experience at the back, really annoying given our current keeper woes.

I remember reading Mourinho mentioning how professional he was and how he'd help Courtois with small details. When you take that into consideration as well it would be hard for the management to deny him his move. I suppose for Cech, when he came in he replaced Cudicini much to the surprise of many considering how well he was doing. Now it was his time he took it on the chin and remained professional.

He wants to join the biggest club in London mate ;)

Hate the idea of him going to Arse but he has lived in London over the last 11 years and has got wife and kids. Petr has always been a model professional and all-around great guy, so I guess the club decided to do right by him even if they dread the thought of that transfer happening. He's too good to sit on a bench and deserves respect for not throwing his toys out of the pram when Courtois was picked as a first choice last season.

Good luck Pete, just not against us.

I'd rather he went Arse than anywhere else probably.

I'd rather be a two way title fight with Arsenal and ourselves. Jose > Wenger!

What if Arsenal win their first title in 10+ years and it's due to us giving them Cech and massively improving them.

:wenger: :(

top signing

two or three others - Kondogbia? a top striker and CB - and I really think Arsenal have the squad profile to win the league

great squad which is well balanced

DAAAAAAAAAMNNN.

It'll take much more than Cech for that to happen.
Cech + one of the midfielders they've been linked with and I'd say they're our biggest threat.

Arsenal are in better nick than City at present so signings like this will see them challenging, I reckon.

Arsenal have a good enough team to challenge for the title but won't. It'll be the same story as always. They'll be up right there until christmas, then they go on a 2 month vacation and then come back to finish on a good note.

Fair play to Chelsea for letting Cech move to their rivals. Not many clubs are able to show that kind of respect to their players.

The line is sometimes thin between nothing and a success story. It only took us United the signing of a very talented Frenchman from Leeds to spark the beginning of an era. That is what I dread the most with Cech going to Arsenal.
