This squad imbalance thing which people cry about is nonsense. SAF would have won the league multiple times with the squad which Arsene has had. Your lot are some of the biggest bottlers I have seen in the game and unless you change that mentality, Cech or no Cech, it won't make much of a difference.

What is a load of nonsense is to suggest SAF would have won titles multiple times with our squad. That is based on nothing, you win titles with the best players and we haven't had the best players in a long time.

That is not nonsense. All the opposition fans on here and half the United fans would agree that our last title winning squad was not very strong and yet we cantered to the title. As far as "great" players are concerned, you have had quite a few very good players and some excellent ones as well. You were always just a tad short from being a team who could really have a go at the title. There have been seasons over the last 10 years when you have come close only for you lot to lose your cool and fret it all away. That shows more about mentality than your squad quality.

All this talk about getting so many players and then challenging, I won't be surprised that you will still be 3rd/4th this year even with a GK as good as Cech between the sticks.

Did the job away at your place to win the cup, mind.

Szczęsny is done if this happens. There's no way he's going to be picked ahead of Cech and Ospina so he'll be relegated to third choice and it's evidence how pissed off with him Wenger is. I've never rated him that highly, he's definitely much worse than he thinks he is and it'll be interesting to see how he copes at a smaller club (I don't believe he's going to get a move to a top club). He's not even been linked with anyone, has he?

He's on the record claiming that he doesn't ever want to leave Arsenal only last month but this should probably change his plans or at least make him re-think that statement. Third choice at Arsenal will probably get no more than 5 games next season.

I think Ospina will be the one leaving and Szczesny will be second choice

Ospina only joined them last year, why would he leave? He joined as a second choice so it probably won't be because moving down in pecking order.

Oh, I've just seen that the has confirmed that he's leaving to go to Turkey.

Its based on Fergie winning titles with not so good squads or not the best squads in the league. Its quite simple and far from nonsense.

Yes and still could not even come close to the PL title. Still happy with the top 4 finish as always like the last decade I see.

Same situation as last season, would rather win the league also but a lot happier than I'd be if we'd won nothing!

Not denying that and not sure why you would bring that up. I am just saying that your squad is not as weak as it is made out to be and what is stopping you from moving to the next level is your bottle, or lack thereof, than the squad itself.

Bob Wilson: "Cech is one of the three best keepers in the world. Courtois is number one, Neuer is number two, he takes too many risks, and Cech is right there with them. Cech is as good as Courtois."

Man's as daft as his hairdo.

Things are different now to 10 years ago. Firstly we are able to retain our best players and now able to attract top players to our squad. The main reason we haven't won titles is because our team isn't good enough and we don't have depth. I'd agree mentally we have been weak but we've also ran our top players into the ground and not had players to come in replace. When we have competed we probably haven't even had the top 2 in terms of squad quality.

I'd agree that with Cech alone we won't improve significantly. We will improve but not by enough to close the gap. But all we can do is look at weak areas and improve where we can. We also need to rectify the injury situation, we usually have more injuries than most (though your lot took that title this time round!) and in the final third of the season our teams fitness isn't up to scratch.

Not so good squads don't win league titles.

We must be sure that De Gea is satying if we are not all over this....

If the papers are to believed Man utd & PSG were very interested. Cech doesn't want to move from London so turned those clubs down. Rumours again today of Lloris though...

So 10.9m

How long did he have on his contract, the 33 yr old Cech?

Good signing. Would be interesting to see them push on and nab a top level centre-back and striker to add to that.

If that's so, then I think we cannot possibly settle for 1.1m more for De Gea.

Well look at that 2012/13 squad then?

Yet it is only a few years since our last title. Given just how poor the league has been this past few years, I think Ferguson would definitely have been in with a shout. Obviously he'd have bought some players, but not that many.

Arsenal will be a problem next season if they get a proper DM in then they could pick up a few trophies.

I'm fairly pissed it appears we weren't making an effort to sign him it's obvious de gea will leave and he was a ready made replacement, a world class replacement too, instead we will probably be stuck with crappy valdes

Confirmed according to Newstalk in Dublin. Good signing for them, they just need a few defenders and decent defensive coach now.

It has been said here numerous times we were interested but he wanted to stay in London.

Why would you want them to push on?
Teams in the Premier League becoming better is only a good thing. Our top teams becoming more competitive both domestically and continentally is a prospect I enjoy.

Mourinho must have honoured this deal through gritted teeth...
Doubt he gave the okay at all. Just completely overruled.

And hopefully it'll be made up to him by letting him splurge on a couple of top signings. :D

We are going to end up regretting this big time !

Unbelievable that a keeper like Petr Cech becomes available and that in the same season we are on the brink of losing De Gea. I just can't comprehend Van Gaal didn't chase this down far more aggresively. £10.9m transfer fee and £80k a week wages for a keeper that is as proven as they can get in the PL and can easily be top for another 8 years.

In my opnion next to a good midfield general by far the most important position in a team in modern football. It is alsmost impossible to have a good team without a worldclass stopper.

Not only would he have been the best replacement available for De Gea far beter than Valdes or Lloris and certainly Cillissen and is this a massively missed opportunity for us but him going to Arsenal will strenghten them beyond believe. They have the foundation for a title winning side just lacking a few crucial elements, a good and secure stopper being one of them. Cech will make Arsenal far more secure at the back and they will improve alot ! They now form a genuine threat for the title, even more so than City imo. This really is one of those we should have signed him if only to make sure our direct rivals don't strenghten themselves massively. Chelsea can cope, they have Courtois who is better, I'd not be so worried if we had DDG to build the defence around but with him gone it is going to be so damn tough to bridge that gap to the top now.

And yes he prefers London, I would have liked to see his decision with a £200k offer in front off him instead of £80k and £10.9m is absolutley dirt cheap, no doubt could we have reached an agreement with Chelsea and blown Arsenal out of the water over this. But jsut seems we weren't interested at all. Big mistake if you ask me !
