No it is not, certainly not after trying 2010, after a few years, PES is going back to the top.
Yeah obviously Fifa09 is a much better all round game, much more polished. But I don't believe the basic gameplay of Fifa is anywhere near as good as people make out or that it's actually that much better than PES09. Both have their merits and both have their weaknesses.

They've spent years trying to argue that a blatantly inferior game is the better of the two, ever since the last couple of Pro Evos were revealed to be a bit shite they've come over all giddy.
I bought both games last time round, was thoroughly disappointed in Pro Evo and thought it was the best FIFA I'd ever seen. So much so that it was tough to decide which was the better game. I didn't play either of them for very long though, ended up playing an earlier version of Pro Evo instead. Beat both of them into a cocked hat.
Fifa has been the better game for years now, some of you need to get with the program. I used to adore the PES games but they're looking and feeling VERY dated now.

I'm a converted Fifa-file...but if my PS3 allowed me to play PS2 games, I'd just play PES 4 & 5 all the time....without question

No, not really. PES always had a more realistic look but FIFA was technically miles ahead. Now FIFA seems to be improving in every area whereas PES has gone backwards. I'm hoping this year is different.
That's why i'm surprised that PES from video looks better than FIFA 10 from a technical viewpoint as well, which is odd.

I was and never will be bothered by all that shit. Its all about playability for me and PES is still the better of the 2 in that regard. Always has been. Anyway this thread isnt about all that. I'll be buying PES 2010.

My download isnt complete yet and I'll probably buy Pro Evo 2010 regardless of how many faults it has, for the pc anyway.
For console I'll obviously get Fifa 10 as well.

I used to play PES & the WE games to death, they were incredible. But FIFA has caught up in recent years and now plays a better game of football.
It looks like a few of you might be "fanboys", refusing to even try FIFA.
PES is so unrealistic now, it still feels like it plays on rails.

I loved PES 3. I remember I paid £1.99 for demo from GAME on the PS2 back in the day because I was so excited! You could only be England or Brazil IIRC.
It is with PS1 games, but they can't make it emulate the PS2 software-wise. Of course, there's rumours that they could do it really easily if they wanted to, but the PS2 is still selling almost as many units as the PS3, so it wouldn't make commercial sense to offer it alongside.
The very early PS3 models had the PS2 chip in them, though, so they can play PS2 games.

FWIW I did buy FIFA last year, as well as Pro Evo. I didn't enjoy playing either of them all that much but could see why people were raving about FIFA. It's taken giant steps in the last few years (it used to be absolutely dire) and Pro Evo has, if anything, gone backwards.
But yeah, a lot of the preference people show for either game is because you;ll always enjoy playing the game you grew up playing the most. Hard to be completely objective about it all.

PES was the king of football titles without a shadow of a doubt. The FIFA titles were fecking dire, I never bought them.
But I bought PES 2008 for the 360 and thought "What's happened to my beloved footy title?". I tried FIFA 08 and granted, it was too slow and buggy but it looked and felt refreshing. FIFA 2009 was a fecking awesome and I'm creaming my pants over the FIFA 2010 demo.
I just wished Konami would employ some more staff for their PES projects, they are overworked IMO. EA employ 100s of people, Konami only had 80+ staff working on PES 2009 apparantly.

From 1997-2002..it was all FIFA...
then from 2003-2007, I couldn't get away from PES. That was the game and I always regretted never getting into PES/WE before that... Was a massive massive fan of PES and spent hours and hours and hours of my holiday on that game...
Now of course, from 2008 onwards, PES has gone massively backwards...Which is why i've gone back to FIFA and FIFA's not let me down..
At least the FIFA 2010 demo is just sublime, and it almost feels like I'm playing PES 5/6 + better graphics and many more animations and slightly more realistic. Ball physics in 2010 so far look amazing, and so does the responsiveness...
Now I'll be heading home tonight and trying the PES demo..(am on the 360 btw)...let's hope it gives FIFA a run for it's money and finally gets back on track. I hope I am put into a dilemma as to what to buy this year by Konami, I really hope...but so far am really really impressed with FIFA 2010..

What is heck. Pro Evo was the best franchise back then. The only decent FIFA title during that period was World Cup 98. But even that wasn't a patch on Pro Evo. And my fav Pro Evo was the first one released for the Playstation.

it really is terrible, why is the gameplay so crap? i used to be able to say "feck the licenses, pro evo's gameplay is incredible". it's what brought me back time after time. with the new one the players are so sluggish, it never feels fluid.

That "sluggish" gameplay is much better and more realistic than past two PES games "lightning quick action" gameplay, this PES is really a BIG step forward, KONAMI is on a right way once again after two bad games.

Well you can't accuse them of lacking realism, they've nailed Valdes down to a tee there!I still enjoy Pro Evo, perhaps not the glitz and glam of FIFA, but I still feel like I'm playing a decent game of football on it. Has a depth to its gameplay, I think some of you play it a couple of times, chuck it away for FIFA, and miss out
New console for me soon, moving to PS3, gunna give them both a good roadtest and make my decision
I was talking about the game I was playing..not which one was better necessarily as I hadn't know about PES, thus mentioned in my post I wish I had gotten to know more about WE/PES...
Either way, thoroughly enjoyed FIFA till 99 at least, after that went utterly downhill.
so whats the verdict then? i am downloading the demo now any major improvements? is it still utter wank? will i end up deleting the demo after one game?
