'Pep' Guardiola sack watch

There are 105 players in the league currently injured or suspended. That’s an average of 5.25 per team.

City are missing 6 players, slightly above average: Rodri, Akanji, Stones, Ake, Lewis, and Oscar Bobb.

Considering their famed academy and the billions spent over the past two decades, it doesn’t seem enough to cause a complete collapse.

I guess the concentration in defensive positions is a problem.

The real question is whether Pep can solve City's problems without resorting to more extravagant spending.

The Football Ramble is a podcast I listen to. Last year when we lost to Palace away from home - I think we had more injuries to centre backs alone than City have in their entire squad.
I remember distinctly hearing about how that can’t be used as an excuse and good managers make do.

The other day they were talking about Rodri and saying it has a massive impact. I think the narratives around injuries is insane.

I don't see the problem. They're just pointing out that City are a one-man team.

Buying Haaland and going for more pragmatic approach will be Pep's downfall IMO.

And while Haaland is great goalscorer, when he has an off game the rest of the team cannot compensate playing with player less since his involvement outside the box is minimal. Also, if he has good game, but the rest of the team is not up to the task, he'll most likely struggle because he rarely does thing on his own, he needs constant service.

It will be interesting to see for how long will their problems continue. Don't know if Pep has enough motivation in him to go for another rebuild, but going away while team struggles would put big stain on his legacy so fun times ahead!

Six players out is a quarter of their squad, though. What's really crazy is how City have had a squad this small for years now and this is the first time they hit an injury 'crisis' on this level.

It is odd, especially considering the insane amount of injuries we have every single fecking season.

Which is weird. While he never was or will be a playmaker he was far more involved in Dortmund's overall play than he is now. Something is very wrong at City around Haaland and it really puzzles me. I won't complain of course, but I just wonder why Pep is the one manager who doesn't seem to know how to get him involved to a degree that they don't effectively play with one man less.

Yeah it is a bit as if he and Haaland created this system to troll us. Haaland is a pretty good footballer for somebody of his frame and size

We were all told last year injuries weren't an excuse, ETH wasn't allowed to use it as an excuse because Ange had a few out and he was doing ok.

100%. It’s different for every team. We can’t use it as an excuse when we have a full defence out yet city who have 1 midfielder out can. City have a lot better squad depth than most in the league. There bench can get in most teams first 11

And even then they have Walker, Dias, Gvrdiol, Lewis*. Thats arguably the strongest back 4 in the league. This is how theyve won title after title over long, gruelling seasons, when other clubs are dropping shock points at home to forest and leicester, city are grinding on with a squad made far stronger by the position their cheating put them in. Its why they coasted to so many carabao cups with a sub team. If united had that level of injuries last season we would consider ourselves blessed.

Been saying this for ages. Arsenal have also recently had a lot made of their injuries, people saying Odegaard makes them tick and is such a huge loss for them. Yet there was crickets last season when we had all 6 of our first team centre backs out and lined up with Kambwala and Casemiro there. Or if ever it came up, as you say it was immediately met with ‘that’s no excuse! All teams have injuries!’

Of course. But city made huge mistakes with not finding a true backup to de bruyne, rodri and arguably Walker

Yeah but not for lack of trying. Plenty of teams wouldn't mind foden, kovacic, silva, gundogan and nunes. They have absolutely no excuse, they've cheated for years and i hope this blip precedes a monumental punishment

I think Foden is overrated but saying you wouldn't take him as a free transfer is wild.

Anyway, there's a separate thread for that discussion. To circle back to Pep, some interesting comments from him on the shortage of defenders for Sunday:
His attitude puts him into not worth it for me zone. Thinks waaaaay to high of himself as shown with England in last tournament.
But not taking him on a free is ridiculous considering he was player of the season last year. I think he's overrated but still a good player
Yup that's just my opinion. Can't stand the sight of him.

Nonsense believing Foden is overhyped shit? Put your blue tinted glasses down and look at his performances. If he would be available for free I wouldn't want him near United. He has some talent but very low footballing IQ. But is in no way shape or form anything near the level media tried to portray him. Could be a one season wonder for all it's worth.
The feck are you on about?
Someone asked why he was out of the team. I said he was ill. You said he was shit. I said that had no bearing on him being out of the team, he was out because of bronchitis which is nothing to do with his talent level. Learn to read

Worst I've seen City play against us in a long time, but some of their players also did some braindead shit on an individual level.

Has a team every collapsed this quickly from the level they were on?

Moyes Utd maybe, but that City team look physically done, Silva, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Walker, all finished at the same time.

Yep. Agreed they’ve been cheating for years but who in which you named is really a backup for rodri and KDB? Seems like they just kept buying wingers or graelish

Genuinely I've never seen anything like it. From one of (probably second best team in Europe) to a team that look like they could get relegated (won't obviously, charges aside but showing that kinda form). The biggest fall off I've ever seen in terms of performance level. And I don't think anyone has a clue why outside of them being so mentally fragile.

They aren't like for like replacements, that's not how it works especially when talking about uniquely talented players. They also let Palmer go. Great managers reinvent teams

City look really bad. I think worse than Moyes bad when he got here.
