'Pep' Guardiola sack watch

What's weird is they started the season absolutely flying and were picking up more points than they usually do with 7 wins 2 draws in the first 9 games in the league

Makes their drop off even more incredible

This isn't just a blip. They're really bad.

Yep, agreed here. The fact United didn't look utterly horrific in general play said it all to me. They look an absolute mess, old and just, well, a total lack of motivation anymore.

Rodri is a big miss, but so is Alvarez... what a weird sale that was.

What is this? Like how are they so limp and lifeless? United weren’t threatening much but City never built any momentum during that game. They looked so complacent.

Bizarre.
Shows how mental football. Usually they spray cash around and buy titles, this summer the players surely knew they had allowed other teams to close the gap. Doubts must have been there and then it just snowballs.

To be fair, the signs were there in that run. 3 of those wins were against Wolves, Ipswich and Southampton and we know where were at with those. Both Fulham and Brentford went closer than you'd expect, so realistically you're left with the West Ham and Chelsea performances.

There was a great angle on a replay of the foul on Amad. Pep in the background losing his shit as the foul was being committed. Glorious stuff. Would love to see that again.

IIRC their performances weren't particularly good even then, but the results papered over the cracks.

I think they know their season is over and a big deduction is coming. I can't think of any other reason for such a drop in effort or mentality. If it was just results, I'd say fair enough but the lazyness and complacency is only explained by that.
Genuinely feel while theres been no decision they've been told "We're cooked" behind the scenes.
There might be something to that. This drop off is crazy. The charges were increased from 115 to 130 too right?

Apparently their points per game since November 1st is 0.57.

It’s felt like that for a while. Transfer strategy hasn’t been great, leaving you with an aging squad and bringing Gundogan back was pure hubris but there’s more quality there than what we’re seeing on the pitch.

But it is really that much worse than Liverpool's drop off in the 20/21 season, or Chelsea in 10/11?

Tbh I think they'll spend big in the summer, win the league and he'll f off.

Perhaps but he needs to do something now to stabilize the team. He has a lot of credit for them but they're in a dreadful form and that isn't very encouraging.

He looks like he’s mentally checked out. Doesn’t look like or sound like someone who’s interested in turning it around. Probably thinking he should have quit in the summer but him losing the FA Cup Final to us fecked with him.

I refuse to believe the loss of Rodri is the sole reason as to why the entire castle has began to crumble so to speak.

Our drop off came about because we didn’t have a fit senior CB from January onwards. We were playing Henderson and Fabinho at CB for a while. We were top at Christmas.

I don’t remember Chelsea in 10/11. Were they that bad?

He needs to break from football. I went from wanting to laugh at him to feeling really sorry for him in about 5 minutes.

I thought about feeling sorry for him. Then I remembered his stupid smug face smoking his cigar after their plastic treble, and the feeling vanished very quickly.

I don't remember them being that bad, in fact they were our closest challenges that year in what was a pretty poor league season. Might be wrong but that's how I recall it.

He keeps banging on about them being a big club... Nobody believes you Pep

He wants out before the cheating is confirmed to the world. Reap what you sow you mercenary

Meh. Millionaire cry baby who has a tantrum because things aren't going his way for the first time ever. He'll get over it.

Chelsea finished that season 2nd 9 points behind us and only ahead of City on GD

I don’t see him quitting or getting sacked.

It is a team that looks starting to look leggy. City used to compliment their positional game with aggressive running and pressing but they look so passive without the ball, other teams are now getting hold of the ball and getting at them. The integrity of their system is heavily reliant on Rodri also.

Pep will be given plenty of money to rebuild this City team before he leaves in a couple of years time.
Not so sure about that. They may be keeping their powder dry to see what league they’ll be in first

I get there was loads of injuries in the squad. But you kept yourself afloat for a long time despite that. Then it was clearly a confidence thing also. You hadn't lost a home game for something like three and a half season, and you suddenly lost 6 on the trot. Then you came back strong and finished well, despite still not having any senior centre backs fit.

Chelsea 10/11 started really well with 25 points in the first 10 games. Then they went on to take something like 10 points out of the next 11 games. Then they turned it around and finished really strongly. A very weird season indeed.

I think he might quit. His post match press conference had him saying he wasn’t good enough twice. Weird to hear him say that.

My thinking during the game as well. Incredible how lifeless they looked. Besides the goal I think Foden had 2 good chances taking shots and that's about it. Terrible. It's like they won 4 titles in a row (plus had treble season) and now are completely drained, like there's nothing left. Obviously there's multiple reasons for it but still odd seeing it.

Interesting to see what happens next. Will they get 1-2 players in January to strenghten their top 4 position before spending big in summer and challenging over next 2 seasons under Pep? Or perhaps Guardiola gets the top 4 finish and tries to win the Fa Cup (Champions League this season doesn't look likely) before leaving...

They have some decent fixtures coming up though next one is Villa away, that could be another bad result (not that Villa are looking that good atm either).

Nah he's always quite melodramatic. He will dismiss everything he said in a couple of days
