Paul Pogba

Who cares what the tabloids think? Sometimes looking stupid in the short term is the best thing in the long term.

Bang on. Right now, nobody is talking about how Chelsea were silly for letting Matic go and buying him back for big money. They're talking about how good Matic is. If we paid big for Pogba, it would be talked about for a few weeks, but if he became a great player for us, it would be forgotten about immediately.

We're a much bigger news piece than Chelsea... You can be sure you'd see more criticism of us than Chelsea faced for re-signing Matic. But yeah, if it proved a successful signing nobody would care.

I don't care where he ends up as long as it isn't chelsea or city, Then I'd be gutted. In all honesty though I cant imagine him at Real Madrid or barca. Only option is back to England or PSG.

Whoever Pogba signs for, he is not going to get anything near £350k. That's literally the kind of money Messi would get if he moved. The most he'd get would be around £200k.

Is he fit for tomorrows game? Probably the biggest game of his career so far if he is, would I be right?

Plenty of players want to join United. Not sure why you've named Mata & Herrera as examples. Neither have shone at United for an extended period & both are fairly recent signings. Better to name someone akin to Carrick.

If Pogba returns to United it'll be because he wants to be here just as much as any other signing. Lad actually Speaks very highly of Manchester.
It has Nothing to do with how good they are or how recently they were signed. Also that's a big IF. He won't be returning which is why I don't think he is our biggest fans and I'm not too bothered.

Matic cost how much? Pogba going from free to £70m odd?
Well it's relative isn't it. Yes Matic was a lot cheaper than what Pogba will cost but Pogba is already a better player (imo) and younger so there's his potential to factor in his price as well.

There are top clubs with giant treasure chests literally lining up for him. We will have to break the transfer record to win the bidding war. And offer him 200k+ salary. We don't play that game. Id say there is no chance in hell LVG will spend most of his transfer budget on one player regardless of how good he is.

We didn't play that game, we do now.

There's no budget and Van Gaal most likely is aware how much that deal would stabilize the squad.

Sir Alex is not in charge. I just don't see obstacles from our side so far... except if we have someone else in mind who's equally good for the team.

Yep Woodward is a different animal. He wants Gaalacticos

I think we need to let that go, if LVG thinks Pogba would suit what he wants then we should break the bank for him. The last time we performed transfer business with the intention of not looking weak or stupid we ended up handing a guy approaching 30 who hasn't had consistently good form for about 3 years a 5 year £300k a week contract when we could have got £30m-£40m for him. Who cares what the tabloids think? Sometimes looking stupid in the short term is the best thing in the long term.

What you said is true but the fee for Pogba is going to be astronomical it could be anywhere between 60-70m quid I just cant see us paying that much for the boy. Mind you I think hes worth it hes already in the upper echelon of midfielders in the world and soon I think he will be the very best one out there.

Sorry for the stupid question but does he class as home grown? If not how far is he from getting it.
No... They have to have been registered for the three years prior to their 21st birthday and he left well before then
Under the proposed changes it would be three years before his 18th and again he would not qualify as he didn't sign till he was 16

It really does! Plenty of our players live the club & want to be there, Smalling opted for Unted over Arsenal whom he's supposed to support. Yet you name the fan boi favourites, as though they're a shining example. Personally I think Mata will be gone in the summer, but that's a whole new topic.

And if Pogba returns it'll be as he wants to play for United, he'd have plenty of other options & the decision will be his. So how exactly would he not want to be at United?

Under the current rules it just has to be 3 years before his 21st birthday that he is registered with a club in England or Wales, I do not think it has to be THE 3 years before his 21st birthday. It does not even have to be 3 years with the same club, just 3 years in total. So if a player signs for an English club right at the age of 16, stays until after he is 19 say. Then leaves for a club in another country, but comes back at some point, under the current rules he is still a home grown player.

That at least is how I remember it, I know when the rule first came into play there were all sorts of discussions about this. I used to have a link to the rules on the official Premier League website but it does not work anymore. But maybe they changed the rules since they first went into effect and I missed it.

EDIT:

Okay here is one link from last summer.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...home-grown-rules-explaining-epl-player-quotas

It says the player only needs to spend a total of 36 months or 3 entire seasons registered with a club or clubs that belong to the FA or the FA of Wales. Included in this can be the season in which he turns 21.

Would have to look at the actual time Pogba spent with us, as I can't remember it off the top of my head.

How can City afford Pogba unless they make a ton of sales? They need several other players too.

I should think there will be a fair amount of money being back channeled between a number of clubs for that to happen.

If he goes to city don't be surprised to see a relatively low transfer fee compared to the ones being bandied about.

We definitely play that game now.

I don't think Woody is afraid to open the coffers if LVG tells him he really wants a player. We were apparently ready to spend big $$$ on Bale; if Pogba was available and he was willing to come to United, I don't see why we wouldn't offer a similar amount for a young, world class player, in a position we need to upgrade.

I hope we do properly go for him. Seeing him at City, doing a Yaya (in his early years there) would be painful. Or at Chelsea too.

Little bit of a mock, saying maybe people at the club needed glasses or something. To be fair, he's just saying what we all say, that we shouldn't have let the situation get to where it was when he decided to leave.

Aren't those Buffon comments old? He said the same 2-3 years back.

Between Pogba, his agent, and his teammates, I think I've heard more about SAF and Man Utd than I have about Juve and Conte/Allegri.

As a United fan, frequently visiting a United forum, yeah you probably would.

Its a pretty big deal, things like this dont happen all too often which is why the whole thing is blown up so much.

No - it's not just that.

It's been 3 years since he's left. Buffon has just come out with a statement, on the eve of Juve making a CL final for the first time in 12(?) years. Surely, that'd be a better thing for Buffon to harp on about. Pirlo did the same earlier on in the season. The agent did it last year I think. And this isn't including Poggers' own comments.

It's just boring now.
