Paul Pogba

I know the game against Portugal was only a friendly but he looked very average, and was probably the poorest performer on the pitch besides the Portuguese attackers, despite playing for the victorious side. Needless dwelling and indecision on the ball, frequently dispossessed, offering little more than a passive defensive presence in midfield. A lot of reminders that he's still young and not yet the finished article. Technically you can see he has most of the tools but he looked a bit unintelligent compared to his compatriots in midfield.

He's got a tough season ahead without form Marchisio, Vidal and Pirlo around him to facilitate better performances.
Pogba has not convinced me yet. Still don't get the hype around him. Maybe he'll prove me wrong this season, but certainly not convinced by him so far.

He's basically Pogba before his first Juve season. He's had a season in and around the first team where he didn't get game time. All Chelsea really have to do is give him game time and save some money. He's an incredible talent.

Watched the whole game and I couldn't agree more. Cabaye and Matuidi were a lot more impressive for me. Pogba has got to make a big decision, play as a number 10 or play as an 8. It's hard to know which kinda midfielder he truly is at the moment.

At the moment I'd probably peg him at a similar mould to Herrera. Not quite creative or cultured enough to arrest creative responsibility for a team at #10, but I wouldn't play him in a midfield two as an #8. I think he'd play best in a three man midfield with a defensively competent (offensively sound) #8 (Vidal) next to him and a proper playmaking #6 (Pirlo) behind. :smirk: In future if he can sort out his game intelligence, mentality and improve his balance, he might be able to play either 8 or 10 to a high level.

Juventus had indeed the perfect system and teammates for him to impress, it's time to show the world what he really is about now.

IF (and I know it's amazingly unlikely) Chelsea sign Pogba, and IF he fulfills the potential he has... In three years time when he's 25(?), with a few years left on his contract, how much would his signature cost Barcelona/Real Madrid?
You can usually get signatures like that off ebay for about £10.

Floating midfielder with the license to go both ways in a three man trio is ideal so definitely more an 8 than a 10 for me. I actually Barca and him might be a great fit. I think their midfield is nothing special and needs revitalization and his physicality could be perfect.

And it's not new, Pogba has no tactical nous or positional sense, that's why I defended SAF decision to not play him in a midfield 2, that's suicidal.

The main reason I've always rated Verratti over him.

Verratti is clearly superior, one of RMC reporter said that Conte was very surprised by Pogba lack of tactical sense, he expected better from a player who played for SAF and United.

real matches with the team under SAF for me

That's not where you learn tactic and positioning, it's on the training ground, at least that's how the Italians do and they are pretty good in tactic.

won't be surprised if he learned not from SAF, but from people like Maulensteen or Phelan on the training grounds (I don't rate them)

Didn't have the best of games yesterday, but he's still a class act, and a player who can win you a game in the blink of an eye. Typical knee jerk reaction by some to try and justify us not playing him. Fact is, had he still been here, he'd easily be in our starting XI now, in my opinion.

I agree it was a disappointing performance and up against our third string midfield (not even the second) but you can´t read too much into it because it was a friendly. More than half of the players couldn´t be arsed. It was a boring match.

I think that's what happened. He was poor but that was because he wasn't arsed. Not that that's an excuse, that's actually worse.

For Portugal maybe but I can tell you France took the game as seriously as possible because they have no choice, only a series of friendlies leading up to the Euros. It was a new system (diamond formation) with Pogba having a creative role, just like at Juventus so far this season and he didn't perform well at all.

Portugal and France have different circunstancies. Portugal has an important qualifiers game against Albania, so they were obviously thinking about that game, being careful with injuries (we have too many injuries, which is dramatic for a team with few choices) and trying not to use too much energy in a game that counts for nothing. France obviously has less pressure (already qualified via host) and can have another approach to the game.

Very true.
