Ashley Young is being picked ahead of Di Maria! Should he up and go he is a worldy afterall unlike Pogba who had shown nothing to suggest he should be starting in the first team that year in the reserves games!

Di Maria is an established player and knows there will be plenty of big clubs out for him. Pogba was told bs by his agent and was despirate to play. I don't have a problem with that personally. I've more a problem with the fact the club said we had the option of another year or something and was that bs? I've more a problem with the fact we knew he would leave us if we couldn't give him game time. When players can back up their talent like Pogba and like Rossi (despite all the injuries), I don't see how anyone can have a problem with that. It's up to us to spot the potential.

This is gonna be alien to some but the reserves don't inspire every kid. Rightly or wrongly, some are just waiting to burst into the first team happy with the responsibility on their shoulders. Sometimes you see a jump in performance and confidence when you know you are trusted to play. Lots of big clubs were interested in him and God forbid, he joined a small club in Juventus and even if it's a lesser league - he's thrived because of the qualities he showed in the reserves.

It's unfortunate he's got a twat of an agent but some people used the fact he left a small French Club to Join United, as a sign of a bad character. The fact fact he left United because of personal ambition was further proof. He was good enough to play. I don't really care about what he did in the reserves. It's like us buying Ronaldinho in his prime and people expecting him to defend. You see peoples qualities and what they give to you. We should have trusted him

The money those two clubs spend goes hand in hand with their reputation. By spending money they got to win so many titles and also have the "sexiest" names in world football. The players from this generation admired the best players from the last generation, and those admired the players from the last generation, and so on. Players want to be associated with greatness and prestige. Players today want to join Real Madrid because of the lineage of players they had. Zidane, Ronaldo, etc... This will continue as long as they keep getting those names. Players want to wear the same jersey their heroes wore.

Precisely my point, or at least part of it anyway! There will be some - like Spaniards born in Madrid, or South Americans perhaps, that fancy them - but that stuff is being extended to French, Belgians and even fecking Welshmen in recent years! The PL is a glamour league. We are blowing money, and should be going toe-to-toe with anyone for the top bracket, at least the non-Spanish ones!

Our policies have changed. We are now willing to go toe to toe with anyone on wages.

Money was the only reason we did so abysmally in securing our top targets in the previous ten seasons.

Earlier today PSG's president Al Khelaifi had an informal meeting with Paul Pogba in Montecarlo, Juventus was informed about this meeting, but so far the French club has only made verbal proposals to the midfielder and the Italian club, they have yet to make a written and formal offer. But Barcelona is also working to sign Pogba despite their transfer ban, their intention is to acquire the former Manchester United midfielder this summer but leave him at Juve until their transfer ban expires next year. Pogba is at the center of the transfer news headlines.

Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have agreed an €80million fee for France international Paul Pogba .

Goal understands PSG’s offer has been accepted by Juve, for whom the 22-year-old has emerged as a key player since leaving Manchester United in 2012.

But even though the Ligue 1 champions appear to have jumped the queue in the race to sign Pogba there remains no guarantee he will swap Turin for his native Paris.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi met with Pogba and his representatives in Monte Carlo earlier this week but a financial package for the player was not agreed.

And it is understood Pogba is willing to bide his time and evaluate other offers which he believes will come his way this summer.

Al-Khelaifi confirmed on Tuesday he had spoken to the player but admitted they would face competition for his signature. He told the French media: “Why did I talk with Pogba? Because he’s a great talent, he’s French, from Paris even. That said all the big clubs want him.”

Juve sporting director Giuseppe Marotta responded following Wednesday night’s game with Fiorentina by saying: “It was an occasional meeting. They spoke about football. We don't want to sell Paul.”

Despite Marotta's stance, Juve accept every player has a price although the deal could hinge on the involvement of Pogba's agent Mino Raiola. The representative is known to have a strong relationship with the boards of both clubs and helped broker a new five-year deal for his client in October 2014.

He is also the agent of a number of PSG players, most notably Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

It is not thought Financial Fair Play will hinder a move should Pogba opt to join PSG as the club are expected to sell several squad members to balance the books, with the likes of Yohan Cabaye and Ezequiel Lavezzi under threat.

Should they beat off the competition to sign Pogba, it would represent a major coup for PSG and their owners, Qatar Sports Investments.

Hopefully true, it's painful enough that we let him go but at least he won't go to a top European club or English rivals.

It would make sense for Raiola for him to move to France. He'll outgrow that league quickly enough and his stock will be high as ever as he dominates what is essentially just another below standard league.

He's essentially that hot ex you have who whilst undoubtedly a 10/10 would never stick around for too long.

It's just a shame we only had her on our arm before she fully blossomed :(

Well, that's one way of looking at it :) I can tell your a glass half empty kinda person

I think thats De Gea. I think Pogba would have stayed here.

I'm going to take a glance at all the evidence we have and quite confidently say no he wouldn't.

Am I the only one thinking City will not be able to attract these players unless them have a coach like Pep or someone well respected in the game

There massive pulling power of outrages transfer fees and wages and "New Project" 5 years ago was just that but everyone has seen how shite they are in Europe and I can't see the biggest names going there anymore if PSG or Us, Madrid, Barca Chelsea etc want them and can afford to pay for them, same with Bale, Im not trying to look through my red tinted spectacles because they were a great team and still are but its coming to an End and they really need to go all out for someone like Pep or Carlo if they are to attract the massive names but even then

Yaya 90% certain to leave City say Sky - does this mean they've secured Pogba?

I am exactly with you. And there is nothing that suggests that City can get those players. Their best deals were Aguero, Silva and Yaya in their first year, where City was the exciting "new project". Now with their shitty performances in Europe I don't think anyone cares about them, it's really only about money. Chelsea for example is in a much better position, because they did well in Europe and have Jose now too, London is a big plus too. Even PSG doesn't look less attractive despite beeing in the L1. They wanted a lot of top players the last few seasons too and then were shocked when they joined Barca, Real, Bayern or Chelsea and spend 50 million on shit. I am really not worried about them, with FFP even less, they won't get Pogba or any other top top signing imo. Like you said a manager like Pep can change that of course.
Can't see them getting Poga, Verratti, Koke, Bale or any sort of big transfer with every top club involved. Wouldn't shock me if they spend 100 million on Barkley and Sterling to fit the quota, which would make me very happy, because they are both not worth that money.

Think he's Madrid bound unfortunately. Like somebody mentioned yesterday, Ramos playing in midfield yesterday might be a major indication he's heading that direction.

He'd be the ideal fit for the 3rd man in our midfield but if he goes to Real then that's par for the course, him going to City isn't acceptable though.

I could see him going to Barca - not till jan but agree the deal this summer and effectivley loan him to juve for the first half of the season
iniesta, pogba, busquets behind neymar, suarez and messi... frightening prospect for anybody facing them

I don't really think he fits Barca, to me feeders like De Bruyne or tempo controllers like Koke or Verratti are the type of CM's they utilize behind the front 3. Pogba can do a lot of things of course but one of his biggest assets is driving with the ball into the final 3rd.

Pogba, Veratti and Koke for me are the 3 midfielders who financially make the most sense to splurge 50+m on.
I would think only Pogba will be moving on this summer. I can accept Real Madrid beating us to his signature but given Barca have a ban to contend with no other team should be matching our attempts to sign him.

If we fail we can always go for Schneiderlin, Vidal, Gundogan etc but the first 3 will lift us back with the heavy weigts and also help attract other top players in the coming windows.

Right now that pesky Woodward has ruined my first planned Muppet Saga for the summer. I'm camping in here and I reckon it will be Nani and 50 mill for Pogs to come home.

Exactly... Imagine barca with that added... Scary

Will be gutted if Juventus accept an offer from City for him, would love Pogba to be Woodys next target but I don't like these City rumours. Still find it shocking we had him and let him leave for nothing, I love Fergie but hard to deny losing a player of Pogba's talent when we've been crying out for a player like him was one of his biggest cock ups.

Oh well, let's just do what we're doing so well at lately and throw a load of cash at Juventus to make this happen. Can't see it working though unfortunately, it's one thing beating Liverpool and PSG to a player and another to get one over on Bayern, Barca, Real, City and Chelsea. Maybe he will come back here now that he would obviously play every game but got a bad feeling his agent will engineer a move to one of our domestic rivals instead if the Spanish clubs are affected by the ban.

Pogba at City would be a nightmare, for multiple reasons. Hope it never happens.

A lot of talk about City, some talk about Chelsea and Arsenal but none about us.

He seems the natural Yaya Toure replacement doesn't he?

I just think with him having left us we were never gonna go back in for him.

Obviously the issue was with SAF and we've got basically an entirely new club now but still, just seems completely unlikely that we'd go back in for him when he fobbed us off.

Never understood why people were so confident that he would come back.
