Roy Keane he is not.... and never likely to be. I did say when we bought him that I was unconvinced and that hasn't changed yet

Inferior to Scholes on most footballing levels.
Same Scholes that never even won Man Utd PoTY?

Not even a Top 3 PL midfielder. The way people talk about him on this forum when he was clearly inferior to the likes of Keane & Beckham is hilarious.

He was in no way inferior to Beckham. Sorry but just no.

Adding 3 green smileys doesnt make a terrible post funny.

half the invincibles Arsenal team cite him as the player they feared the most. Not Beckham, not Keane. Try again

WUM.

Best midfielder ever yet he was never the best player on his own team. Bizarre isn't it. His reputation has been inflated because he prematurely retired from England & his fans conjured up a few fake quotes out of thin air. When him Keane, Beckham, Giggs & him were all in their prime he was the 3rd wheel in midfield & that's indisputable.

Anyway, this is a thread about Paul Pogba. Stay on topic lads.

It would help if you'd stop polluting the thread with your awful comparisons to Lampard, and mostly if you would stop provoking a discussion on why Scholes is not a Top 3 Premier League midfielder on a player performances thread.

The first part of your post isn't even worthy of conversation.

Stop responding ffs. Stay on topic instead of worrying about getting the last word in.

Lampard is shit, Scholes is the best midfielder in PL history. Got it.

Omg this is too funny. This literally is one of the funniest things Ive read on the caf.

the amount of hate he gets on social media after 5 games into the season is disgusting.

i mean he is a 23 year old kid in a new league and a new club. what do people expect? it seems like many people would just love to see him fail. utterly disgusting.
yes he was shit again yesterday but so what? bar herrera everyone was. i hope he shuts the haters down in the next few month and i also hope it doesnt affect him with all the hate he gets. he seems to be a very emotinal player.

It's not disgusting, it is social media. If nobody wants to be exposed to that kinda stuff then don't use them. I'm sure he doesn't care one bit about it so we really shouldn't either.

One thing Pogba has on his side which I think Di Maria didn't is time. Pogba is also playing the position he's supposed to be good at. There won't be any tinkering with that. He'll get enough chances to get it right in his favored position. But he needs to stop trying to impress the fans. His athleticism and passing ability is close to world class, his dribbling is not. He needs to play to his strengths for now.
His dribbling is really good though. Not many midfielders can do what he does.

Modric is the best midfielder in the world while still not being his teams best player. If your central midfielder is your best player something has went wrong.

I honestly didn't think he was that bad. He definitely needs a release though, a goal or a great game where he contributes. You can tell he's running at the plastic bag and it won't break yet.

I still think the easiest way to nullify him is play your two smallest players near him and goad him into trying to take them on all game. He loves the space and the time to dribble but if you hit him with small players they usually knock him on or take the ball. He's a large lad and I don't think he's grown into his power game yet. He still looks like he's playing football in his own frame and at his own pace and it lets players get in and take the ball off him quite easily or put him off his game by manning up on him and hitting him low.

It is a high risk-high reward game so we need to be patient with him.

For what you write it reminds me the first games of Cristiano in Madrid, when he was anxious and excited, but not yet located . Something similar happened to Bale, when his performances were outstanding or disappointing for the fans. All that is motivated by the price, which is a big burden for any player. He has quality so it´s only a question of time. In any case, as already mentioned, it should be accompanied by a organizer midfielder(a good one), the Xabi Alonso that Mourinho had in Madrid.

Oh the irony  Lampard was phenomenal. Scholes was phenomenal. Why can't fans put their petty biases aside and acknowledge the quality of opposition players?

Anyway, Pogba will come good. He had a shite start at Juve last season, too, then he exploded into life. Perhaps to be expected having had no pre season.

What a depressing post.

You say we've had 3 shit depressing seasons...then surely Mourinho deserves more than 5 games before fans start crying that we are going to fall apart again. We were the 10th highest scorers last season so surely it should be no surprise that we are still disjointed in our attack

And comparing Pogba to Di Maria and Falcao is stupid. Di Maria didn't want to come here and he never suited LVG's slow shit football + didn't like manchester and got robbed. Falcao off the back of a huge injury.

Pogba hasn't even had a preseason with us and has been with the squad for like 4 weeks!!
Agreed. Ridiculous.

Thats the best we can hope for from him IMO. He's never going to be a dominant midfielder like Keane or Viera.

He's 23. Were Keane and Viera playing in CL finals at that age? God who knows what kind of criticism you would have come up with for them two when they were struggling.

Never going to be a dominant midfielder like them two...well Viera thinks different. Anyway continue with your anti Pogba stuff Rory, fascinating to see from a United supporter

Patrick Vieira has been left impressed by Juventus youngster Paul Pogba. “He’s better than I was at his age…”

Pogba, who has been likened to Vieira, is a 20-year-old midfielder who has been a revelation since leaving Manchester United in the summer.

“I first saw him play as a teenager in a game against Portugal,” Vieira, formerly of Milan, Juventus and Inter, told RMC Sport.

“It didn’t take long to understand that he was destined to become a good player, then I saw him for Juve and knew that he was a very strong one.

“I believe that he is a better player than I was at his age. He has a great shot on him and a good physique for someone who has only just turned 20.

“Only time will tell, but I think he has a great opportunity to have an excellent career.

“He will be the next great midfielder of the French national team. He will learn things very quickly.”

Pogba, who was recently handed his first full international cap by Didier Deschamps, has scored five goals in 24 League games this term.

You're not wrong and what's really fecking depressing is the similarity in the shit performances over those three seasons. Ponderous and unimaginative going forward, while capable of conceding a soft goal at any moment. Different players (bought at ludicrous expense) but the same old shit on the pitch. Meanwhile, teams around us are visibly changing their style with each managerial appointment and doing it quickly.

Like you say, it's so harsh on us fans it's almost like a black comedy. I'm closer to crying than laughing though.

Moving back on topic, even Pogba is following the same soul-destroying narrative of players like Di Maria and Falcao. Really exciting debut, followed by swift decline and circular arguments about the manager not using him properly. While any genuinely world class attacking/creative players signed by the other big clubs seem to hit the ground running and immediately start to dominate games, scoring and assisting in bucket-loads from day one. It's excruciating.
Disappointing that experienced posters are overreacting to 2 'poor' performances. We have looked good in our games before city. Even against city we were dominant in the second half and deserved a draw.

The performance against Feyenoord was poor, I agree. But that was our second rate side. Even then Rashford looked electric as usual.

But our first 3 games we were amazing to the point of looking unplayable at times. Once this team gets some confidence in it we could win the league (if City ends up losing momentum) But the team is never going to get confidence if the fans keep losing faith every time we lose a game. A couple of loses doesn't undo the way we played in the first 3 games.

I think it's idiotic to even mention his price 4 games into his first season at United in which he has possibly 4 more years left. Even if he had scored a goal in every appearance thus far, it would be idiotic to bring up his price as it is only 4 games in.

Some of you guys need to get over the price.

The guy I was replying to implied he was happy with Pogba's performances so far. The easiest way to illustrate he hasn't been up to standards is to point to his price tag to indicate he is the worlds most expensive player and to point out those performances are not befitting of the worlds most expensive player. I'm not judging him against his price tag, but it gives an indication of the kind of levels we should expect. Even a base rate performance for a player of that calibre is much above what we have seen so far, not to suggest he won't hugely improve, which he obviously will, there is no harder position to adapt to a new league in than at CM. My point is just he has been disappointing from what we can expect going forward, im not rating his ability or potential, but the guy broke the world record fee, there is a lot more to come.

We should really stop comparing Pogba to the likes of Keane and Scholes as he is a totally different type of player.

Gerrard, Lampard and Yaya Toure are more accurate comparisons, I think.

Football fans these days are too impatient. One bad game and they're the "worst player in the world".

I hate the internet era sometimes.

Who are you quoting?
Most United fans after yesterday's defeat. Suddenly Rojo is the worst player ever. Memphis is the worst to ever don the red shirt, Pogba is a waste of money, etc.

Knee jerk reactions. Nobody looks at things logically or is patient anymore. Most of these players last night haven't played a game all season. I guess it's true what they say... you're only as good as your last game.

Same Scholes that never even won Man Utd PoTY?

I love Scholes but he has become extremely overrated ever since retiring. People have been comparing him to Zidane, Xavi, etc. It's crazy.

He was a great player, one of our best. But never on the level of those two. I don't care how many supposed "quotes" from those two players you come across that tell me otherwise.

I think we are guilty of being a bit knee-jerky. Understandable given the dross we've been served up for a long while now but we've a new manager and a lot of new players and the players that were here have to get lvg's philosophy out of their heads so we're gonna need some time but we'll get there.

The likes of Pogba, Martial, Herrera etc haven't turned to shit because we haven't won a few game. A period of good form can make even the average midfielder look better than what they are.

He'll come good, let's be patient. He is still discovering the PL, this team and playing under Mourinho. We all wanted him to perform great, not only for the team's benefit but also in a way for our own e-ego. I find it annoying the criticism he receives from other fans but I'm willing to be patient. He cost so much money, it must not be easy to perform with this much expectation on your shoulders.

Would be wrong to judge him as a player before next season. The guy has had no pre season, is used to winter breaks by now and had one hell of a transfer saga. We should expect this season to be very Topsy turvy. Not to forget, he is still very young.

A world record transfer will never get a free pass for an entire season. Especially in a team liken ours which isn't doing well and thus inevitably looks up to its big names to pull their weight and more.

We have got off to a good start this season. Ok we got beat versus City but saying not doing well is just media tripe imo

He's nothing like Keane as a player. At 23 Keane was twice the player Pogba is. He's a bit more like Viera, physically. But again at 23 Viera was twice the player Pogba is. I fail to see what Pogba having played in a CL final proves. He was just as invisible in that CL final as he was in this years Euros final for France. Keep telling yourself Pogba is the new Roy Keane, no skin off my nose. With every passing game people will see he's miles off ever being that good.

Oh come on.
Don't overreact so much. Sure, maybe he wanted to come go to Madrid but he looked happy to come to us. So we don't know that.
And he certainly won't go anywhere after just 1 year. You're painting it like we're some kind of small club compared to Madrid how will gladly let go of their our player to the big bad Madrid.
The bit about Scholes and Giggs is lousy too.

Of course, it could all be a wonderful plan by Pogba's agent Raiola - tell him to go to United for a year for a huge price.....play well but not too well, sulk, blame the manager for things and be shipped out next summer at a much cheaper rate to RM. Pogba wins, Raiola lines his pockets even more and RM get him cheaper than they would this summer....

I love intrigue....:smirk:

You can see how that would be confusing in the Pogba thread, I didn't see anyone call him the worst player ever or even close. Yes, people on here have their opinions on players and if things don't go well they stick with that. Rojo for instance, while garbage has had no preseason and not kicked a ball this season, he was never going to have a stormer. Depay also completely lacks sharpness.
