Patrick Dorgu | Medical today? No. Weekend.

So did Napoli just drop out of talks then or was that just a tactic.

I don't understand this transfer. We're in a bad financial shape, that we're going to sell on of our brightest talents, yet we're going to buy a left back when both Dalot and Mazraoui can play there, Shaw can play there (a couple times a season), we have Amass who's highly rated and we just spent money on that kid from South America.
Have you watched Dalot or Mazraoui play at LB

What am i missing about him? Guy looks average in literally everything; defending, attacking, technique.
Are we interested (and for that price) just because he is classic wing back?
Watch the Adam Clery 442 video posted above. In my mind his analysis is the best

Generally agree, but Dalot looked better vs Liverpool than anything I've seen of Dorgu. Biggest benefit I see from this is moving Dalot to RWB

Some might suggest that "better than anything I've seen of Dorgu" is a rather redundant comment when, as of Monday at least, you'd never actually seen Dorgu play:

Never having seen the guy, I wonder how much more we'd have to spend on Kerkez or Robinson

I remember videos showing how Onana would transform us. Don’t believe these anymore.
I think often it's the weight of the shirt and the overboard media attention, which you can't reall factor for until they get here.

Entertaining and educational as usual

Yep, the fact that he can talk numbers and not bore us to death is a great trait!

Could be pure consequence of United's decision making. Getting rid of Pellistri & Elanga, also Rashford, Sancho and Antony doing everything not to deliver... It's hard to forsee the next move, especially since club changing it's narration, every 6 months lately.

Dalot and Mazraoui aren't very good at LWB, Leon is still a kid. Amass is completely untested and hasn't played LWB. We can see during matches how much we struggle without a LWB.

Interesting this bid is completely out in the public - trying to add extra pressure?

Doesn't seem that impressive. More of a desperate move to show some backing. I would rather wait until summer and relook at the market.

It's almost like you havnt seen us play lately if you can't see the problems we've been having at left wing back and why we might need a more attack minded, athletic, naturally left sided player to play there

None of those players are left wing backs. It’s an obvious position that we need to upgrade, no premier league teams are going to rely on two 17 years olds to fill a position either.

It’s a transfer we have to make really. Let’s hope the scouting is good.

Dorgu played like four matches there this season

Fair point, but how do we know that Dorgu is going to be better? Given our financial situation, how important the role is and having a bunch of options already at the club even if they aren't the best, it seems to be an expensive punt to take.

He did play left back in his last game for Lecce according to fotmob. Was also the lowest rated player, but let's ignore that... But also played left back with a good rating the game before. He seems mainly a left back who can sometimes play right wing when they need it.

He's a left back and we need a left back. This is good. The worry is he's only 20 with very little experience and we need a left back who can play now. Left back vs left wing back isn't a huge difference in the way Amorim will ask him to play, we need one is the key thing and the only one who can put out an ok level there is Dalot, and it's obviously been a struggle point so far. I just hope Dorgu is actually ready to be starting games in the Prem which I have my doubts on purely due to lack of experience

If Lecce accept 30m euros, then that fee doesn't look too bad. If we do get Dorgu, hopefully he can have a decent 2nd part of the season and be (at least) good enough as squad option for future.

Just draft a list of alternative candidates, if we're far apart on the first move on to the next. Can't keep showing that we will buy no 1 at all cost.

Never knowingly seen him play and we're long past the point of being able to have any confidence in our recruitment. Unless I have seen a player and they look amazing it's hard to get excited. Instead I expect them to be the latest player that everyone will be calling deadwood in 18 months' time.

Fingers crossed they know what they're doing this time.

Seems they care more about profile of the player rather than where they've been playing primarily. I've never seen him play but apparently he's a good ball carrier and can get up and down the pitch. Only Amad can offer us that from a deeper position so hopefully he will make a difference.

Is he at least as good as the LwB Amorim had at sporting? We really shouldn’t be targeting decent players but those with high and obvious potential.

Yes it is, hope that helps. At €30 million he's significantly cheaper than what we paid for Wan Bissaka, a bit cheaper than Shaw and about equal adjusted for the likes of Phil Jones.

Fact is at the cost if he fails we'll sell for a small loss. It's low risk.
The arse has fallen out of the transfer market since the AWB days for €50mn because of PSR and Dorgu just doesnt' have the reputation any of those players had pre-purchase. AWB was seen as a huge defensive talent who was previously a winger and therefore the assumptions made about his attacking talent were optomistic. Shaw was a genuine prodigy and only injuries have prevented him being consistently world class and Jones was being compared to Duncan Edwards.

I know that video compilations of footballers aren't that relevant but I've seen a couple of compilations of Dorgu and I've rarely seen any crossing video inserts from him in those compilations.
