Patrick Dorgu | 2024/25 Performances

This is apparently what happens when we sign young players who actually want to play for United. As opposed to mercenaries ala Falcao, Sanchez and De Marishit
They don't have to be 'mercenaries' - any experienced attacking player with an impressive CV, even if ultra committed and determined, is going to be able to command a much higher wage than a 20 year old from a small Italian club with just over 50 games in his career.

That's why we're going to be targeting the latter type, and not players already at the elite level - so that we can be run more like Brighton and Southampton and less like the teams battling to win the CL. We've already got the league position nailed!

He seems a promising prospect. First and foremost, I just hope he can avoid the left footed defender jinx currently at the club - with Shaw, Martinez and Malacia - and actually be fit and available for most games. That would already be a huge boost, and add some balance to the team. After that, with his pace and ability on the ball, hopefully he can help add more attacking threat from the wing back roles.

I hope he’s a world beater, but not sure he’s ready for this level yet - especially not with the pressure here. From Lecce to United is a bigger step than most take.

Even if he is 6/10 for the rest of the year, a competent left footed player running up and down the line hard who can get to the byline and deliver cutbacks consistently will open up so much for the rest of the side.

We are paying sensible wages, what is this sorcery.

This is my like pet project on this site. INEOS have done a great job with our wage situation and will be in really good shape once Rashford and Casemiro are out. Hopefully by this summer.

Bruno has a big contract but I think he deserves it honestly. That only leaves Mount and maybe De Ligt depending on how much you rate the guy. https://www.capology.com/club/manchester-united/salaries/

Overall, should let us spend a bunch in the summer.

Cutbacks are only good if you have strikers that can get in the right position and finish them off

Should align perfectly with Sir Jim’s philosophy! :D

Can’t beat the save our season vibes aimed at a 20 year old lad - not that it’s his, nor us fans fault.

What a time to be alive

When you have a player who will consistently do the same things, especially when that player is of the same nationality as you, you figure an understanding may be struck up over time. Garnacho for all his ability will never do the same thing twice. Hojlund will benefit more than anyone from what Dorgu can potentially bring by playing little more than "alright"

I'm not expecting him to be pulling up trees but it will be nice to have a left footed hard running player in the flank. Opposition players know Dalot isn't a danger on the left at all, this guy has perceived threat. So the thought of him going down the touch line and crossing just opens up more space in the middle.

Problem is - all are kids and will be inconsistent. Reason why our model won't work unless we add some players who is just about to hit peak .

We’ve done the whole buy the superstars thing, trying to take the quick path back to the top. It hasn’t worked for the last 10 years.

At least he's surely better than Dalot ;)

But in all fairness I agree, that he might not be ready for the EPL, even though he's starting more and more at the national team, and improving every month at Lecce.

Excited to see this lad play - hope it's on Friday. He has a really interesting style, reminds me of Luka Doncic (for any NBA fans) a little - he's kind of herky-jerky the way he dribbles, but his big body and close control make it difficult to disposes him (cleanly at least).

Should have a free shot at the rest of the season before we even consider making a judgement on him given the conditions he is coming into, him only being 20 and coming from a new league, but seriously who are we trying to kid?

Zirkzee does tend to position himself for a cutback more than actually attacking the posts. Amad and Bruno also tend to move into those areas. So it could work.
That’s because he can’t be arsed getting properly in the box.

Not many players really flourish in the first 6 months when joining in the winter window. Coming from Lecce is a massive leap. Two reasons why I have no immediate expectations of Dorgu. He's here for next season, maybe EL this season. Over the next year or 2 is when I will expect to see something, 25m is a decent amount to pay.

We need to be patient with him. He's a good prospect and I'm pleased we were able to get the deal done, but he's a young player trying to adapt not just to a new team but also a new league and a new country. It's completely normal for a player of his age to have some areas of their game that still require development. Some of his technique, particularly his ball striking, needs a lot of work - his crossing is pretty wild and he will definitely be, on occasion, quite frustrating to watch. If we persevere with him, though, he has the physical attributes to be a very useful player for us in the future.

Now hes here and playing tonight, best of luck to him. Would be over the moon to be wrong for doubting the signing at all. Very good opposition for a first game

As long as he resemble a footballer, i.e. comfortable with the ball at his feet, it's all good. Anything else is a bonus.

Let’s not judge him tonight. Evra had the worst Man Utd debut ever and Stam was labelled a donkey for his three games. A decent game, a win and a composed 60 would be a dream.

I guarantee that people will be comparing him to Messi or Yamal by the end of the game.

Looking forward to seeing him , scored on his debut for Denmark so signs are good :)

While true it was still correct to judge Evra as weak after that match for example. He did it himself, thats why he improved so much. And he went from being very weak in the air in that first match to having a big leap and being strong at defending in the air later on.

Hope he’s not injured. He was the positive of the first half.

He needs to play LWB with Garnacho ahead of him.

Thought he looked ok in a terrible first half

Very strange that he was played at RB then subbed

Odd

You're all very very welcome for my bringing up that Amorim might want him to play on the right and try to replicate what Amad has done as wingback from that side. I'm sure at some point he'll play on both sides, but game 1 on the right.

First half he and Amad were okay I guess. A few linkups and won a freekick on the right. Then came off... Injured? If he's actually injured after us spending our transfer window trying to sign him that'll some us right up.

Left side please. The amount of space Dalot got is enough for him to make an impact.

Assume the sub was pre-planned in a bedding in kind of way. Looked handy going forward, maybe a bit slow in the recovery perhaps

Annoying that we’ve signed him for the left and instantly put him on the right. Play players in there preferred positions. It isn’t hard

Unless injured today (and some ways even if) he got shafted by the manager on his debut. Why against a Leicester side who alway setup to play narrow is he playing on the right instead of the left?
