OT EVACUATED | Device signed as having been recovered, could NOT be detected by sniffer dogs

I was just thinking I wonder will they have to carry out a controlled explosion before I read that tweet.

Does anyone know anything about such techniques? How much damage could it cause to the building?

A shaped charge to separate the explosive from the detonator I believe.

This isn't a transfer rumour. His sources for player comings/goings will be completely different from his sources in the police.

How does he have sources in the police in the first place? He's not Commissioner Gordon.

Good - best could be hoped for. Must have been scary, though.

To be honest, it wasn't too bad. Like I say, hats off to the policing I saw, the whole thing was managed really well and it was entirely calm.

We got pretty much first word it was abandoned too and were out of the car park and on our way home easy.

Disappointed, but in reality maybe I should be relieved.

what the feck is a controlled explosion? Will it damage the stand/stadium? Will that impact the rescheduled fixture?

They usually cover it with blankets that are designed to absorb the blast. Some energy will escape the blankets, but the damage will depend on whether or not they can move the package, and how well they can cover it up.

Package is probably small, as it would have to be brought in, so other than damage to immediate surroundings, it shouldn't be that bad.

Oh wow, that policy is definitely going to change now. At most American sporting venues we have to walk trough airport style metal detectors.

Yeah, there was a noticeable step up in security this season, but I've still thought it's not really enough.

It's where they purposely make it go kaboom in the safest possible manner. I hope they find out what it is before doing so.

I think it's that if there's a chance they won't be able to disarm it the safest option is to just let the explosion happen with no risk to anyone. No idea how they'd do it inside the stadium though.

Just got in .Why as the game been postponed?
It's been abandoned. A suspicious package was found in the north west quadrant, half the stadium was evacuated whilst half remain inside. The bomb squad have now arrived at Old Trafford.

If City don't lose.. Might aswell take the 0-0. Saves us having to watch another half hearted performance.

pain in the ass. Down having a beer in Sam Platts now. Brought a mate of mine to OT for first time today. Memorable. For the wrong reasons!

surprised it took them this long to notice it. ronaldo had spied it years ago.

Fair play to the police to handling this well it seems. Disappointed the game is abandoned, was quite looking forward to it. Undoubtedly the correct decision to do so however.

That's what all seem to be saying

Well done man Utd. For all the critism the club gets they seem to be well prepared for situations such as this.

There are various options, ranging from putting the device into a skip filled with sand and then deliberately triggering it to using a piece of CLC explosive or a shaped charge to destroy the detonator whilst not igniting the primary charge.

Absolutely bizarre. Luckily out season is pretty much over and I can't see city fecking up again.

City are going to lose and we're going to be handed a 0-0 draw aren't we....

Glad that no one was hurt, or at least to this point.

What a worrying thing this is, especially in light of the Euros coming up. I will really be uptight while those games are going on and the kicker of it is that if you don't play them, you're letting these idiots win.

Will it be replayed or completely abandoned ? Sorry if the same question was answered already, I just got in.

Unknown at the minute mate, but if it's not replayed, it'll go down as a 0-0 draw
