Olympics boxing controversy - IBA bans lifted on Lin and Khelif by IOC

I watched the fight and......that was a surreal watch. Khalife landed about 2 punches, none of which rocked Carini in any way.

I thought her record would be unbeaten based on the comments going around. She's lost 20% of her fights and only won 6 of her 42 fights by knockout.

What the actual feck has gotten into peoples' minds?

People just believe what suits their agenda. Even when it entails believing an Algerian man could change gender and still represent the country on the biggest sporting stage in the world. It’s absurd.

Had this conversation earlier. I’ve never really seen an end to a fight like it. Firstly, it was the most powerful punch she’d ever taken and she feared for her life. Then it turns out she broke her nose and quit because it hurt. Realistically, she had a shit guard and got clocked in the perfect place, then quit.

Also find it funny how the people who have a problem her a few days ago would've had an attitude of "you're either male or female no in between" and are now trying to nuance things. By their own words if you are born female and have female reproductive organs you are female no ifs or buts, but when presented with these facts they still won't say she is one.

She has been reposting comments about it being sick that a man is being allowed to fight women. Comments calling her opponent disgusting with puke emoji’s and a sick monster. Posts calling her a “transformer”. She’s posted an image of a female boxer stood across from a beast wearing boxing gloves. That’s only scratching the surface… she’s been on a reposting spree to her Instagram stories.
It would be so sad if someone punched her right in the nose.

I haven't seen anyone respond but I have to say this is an absolutely disgusting post and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Why do you keep misgendering her in all your posts? Why "they"?

--------------

For once the IOC statement was genuinely on point. Good for them to finally speak up about this.
Misgendering? They is an appropriate article to talk about a person.

The Science of Sport podcast on this is really good, I'd recommend it. Hell all the episodes are great.

Wasn't there a female sprinter in a similar scenario? South African or American maybe. Good ten years back.

Yes, she was treated like shit by everyone without having done anything wrong. Caster Semenya.

I haven't listed to it, but why are they using that title? What males are competing in women's boxing in paris?
The podcast explains a lot and I felt was exceptionally fair and balanced. I also listened to today's latest and they touch on the match but don't discuss the result but the wider context of the bout, rather than making about the individuals, likewise also don't make any inference about motive of the Algerian boxer.

I’m listening to it now. The podcast was posted before the fight between Algeria & Italy happened, so they’re using “male” in the biological sense because of the reported results of the chromosome tests on the Algerian and Taiwanese boxers conducted by the IBA

Aren't those the mystery tests no one really knows much about?

The type of posts her next opponent is sharing.

Yes. If you listen to the podcast, you’ll hear that they make a caveat of “we are basing this discussion off the assumption that we can trust these sources” (or something close to that effect)

OK, fair enough. It seems a bit clickbaity though.

I have looked up all your posts from the last few days and you have literally only used a "they" article to talk about A) multiple people at once B) organizations/companies C) animals and D) the Taiwanese and Algerian women boxers this thread has been talking about.

I'd ask you to explain why that is but I already know the answer. You came into this thread pretending to be asking genuine questions but have only been interested in propagating vile rhetoric. I won't waste more of my time on you.

Are you @NotThatSoph in disguise?

Possibly.

If you end up listening to it, the main guy on it (there’s 3) starts talking about World Rugby & saying “we”… I was wondering why & looked him up to get some context. He is one of the sport scientists on staff for World Rugby.

Thanks :+1:

You got me, I'm using they solely to harm someone I've never met.

There must be a reason why this specific person deserves a "they" when other men and women get a "he" and "she" from you.

You know you can just say my bad and admit you shouldn't have misgendered her. It's possible to be wrong on the internet and admit so.

By doubling down it actually sounds like you want to be hurtful.

They discuss the IOC and IBA tussle too and state that is a whole other context

To go back to this, they just brought something up at the end of the podcast episode that I’d not heard before.

The IOC gave a brief to the press on terms to avoid using in their reporting on this games and one of the terms they asked them to avoid was DSD and to instead us “sex variations”, which obviously brings up the question as to why they’d do that (if it has something to do with those test results are not)
