Nuri Sahin

Was reading the BBC article.
He signed a 6 year deal with Real @ ~150k/week (euros).
Crazy money.

He does everything Adam's meant to do, just 10x better, and he can defend a bit too. Although at Dortmund he had the excellent Bender alongside him getting through most of the defensive work, does Allen play the same way? I thought he was more of a passer.

I imagine Lucas will factor into things in that respect.

He's a very good signing for Liverpool. If Lucas plays well and Gerrard can find some of his better football again as well as staying fit then they've potentially got an excellent central midfield.

Yep. Pity for them they have one of the most wasteful strikers in the league and a donkey to score goals.

Still should be noted some of the Scousers have a touch more cynicism though, quote:

'Should probably go out and prove they're the best before being hailed to be honest

3 of the "best midfield in the world" got dicked on by WBA last week'

Sobering indeed! :lol::lol:

Shelvey's Chernobyl children exchange programme has finished I believe.

Borini was actually part of that programme. His family had kids from just a few miles away from Gomel we just beat in the Fairs Cup.

That's fecked up.

Yes, a lot of them are cynical but I don't get what they're arguing?

By best midfield do they mean:

Central midfield (i.e. 3 players in their 433 system)
i.e. Sahin, Gerrard and Leiva, with Allen in reserve

Or do they mean midfield

i.e. potentially Sahin,Gerrard, Leiva, Allen in a 442?
Because a midfield 4 of those 4 wouldn't work easily. Very few teams play with 4 central midfielders, and out of those, only Gerrard can plausibly play wide..

Because our 'midfield' could either be:

Kagawa, Cleverley, Carrick

or Nani, Kagawa,Valencia, Cleverley Carrick.

Both are probably better than theirs, anyways.

Talking about the stupidity of Liverpool fans, I think that this time next year Lucas Leiva would be the best midfielder of all time. If he would be injured, then he will be the best player ever. Really, injury helped this player fame from average to best in the world.

Some very different takes on the deal coming from various places after the dust has settled.

Bild have been looking into it and reported that there was no loan fee and that we are only paying 30% of his wages. Less than Arsenal's offer. Their spin is that it was our willingness to not have a buyout clause that sealed it for us.

And today

Srijandeep Das @jeremy_LFC44s Nuri Sahin can be bought for £11million by Liverpool FC should his loan spell go well - Jonathan Northcroft reports for Sunday Times.

What a huge step down from Madrid to Liverpool for the lad.

They both sound a bit far fetched to me. Nothing from the Liverpool management has indicated you have a buyout clause which would lead me to believe you don't!

Thought he looked rusty today, clear to see his fitness and sharpness isn't quite there yet. I hope he is thinking damn I should of held out for Arsenal :D

After Arsenal's first goal I was happy we didn't sign him. Look at Sahin's position compared to goalscorer Podolski when Gerrard loses the ball. He must be 10-15 meters closer to Liverpools goal than Podolski was. Still Podolski is inside the box scoring when Sahin is far away from it.

Reminds me of Denilson when Rooney scored 0-2 against Arsenal in 2009/2010 (we won 3-1) - too lazy to do a proper job

I don't think he will be happy when Liverpool are slogging away in mid-table and needing a win away at Stoke. Barely noticed him today.

From playing to Dortmund, to being on the bench and watching Real's great football to actually be part of Liverpool's dross will hit him psychologically

Norcrofts report was part of an article that was obviously briefed by Ian Ayre. Whether that lends the report any more credence is a matter of debate though.

Personally, though I'd rather the 11m option was true, I find Bild more credible. And I can't imagine both are true.

Too early to say anything mate, probably his first game in god knows how long and his fitness probably isn't up to scratch either.

A lot of conflicting stories out there but who knows. I'll believe the ones that are more favourable towards us :p

If he can improve them and a play a big part for them this season could also do wonders for his confidence and reputation!

He looks slower than Gareth Barry.

Seems speculation as to Mourinho being worried about his lack of pace may not be too far from the truth.

You don't need pace to be a top quality CM, Arteta isn't very quick and neither was Alonso from memory. Good passing ability and a sharp mind is what you need and if those who have followed him are to believed he seemed to have that abundance in his Dortmund days.

He may well need a few games to get match fit. If you look at the Giroud chance he looked very slow. Diaby just powered away from him. He didnt look too bothered and just gave up very easily.

There's a difference between not being particularly quick and being slow. For me you at least need to be able to get around the pitch, especially if you're the deepest of a midfield three.

Still, tts early days and he may well come good but this will be the toughest period of his career so far. The PL is stronger than Germany in my opinion, and he's playing in a much worse team where he'll be expected to produce the goods.

He did this numerous times in Dortmund, but there he also had the benefit of having players pressing from all corners which inevitably made his job easier. Very reliant on good team-work in other words.

Wouldn't be the first player to look good in a good side and then not quite the part later on.

As I said, early days and he might come good, he at least needs a chance.

Was pretty anonymous today. I was well up for us signing him in the summer, but he doesn't seem to be doing too well at Liverpool. Maybe he suits a faster play style, a la Dortmund?

Mixed bag for me. Looked the part vs WBA in the league cup and vs Norwich a few weeks back. Even vs Anzhi on Thursday I thought he did well. But at other times (like vs Everton) he's looked off the pace. Still, he shows glimpses of quality. Not sure why Rodgers is playing him so advanced though.

He's been truly awful every time i've watched pool. What exactly does he offer?

It's really strange.

He has shown not even a glimpse of how good he was for Dortmund, neither for Real nor for Liverpool this season, I sometimes wonder if it's a case of a player that was really suited to one playing style and actually can't adept really well to new circumstances and tactics.

I have a good feeling that Real isn't very keen on getting him back next season if he doesn't manage to turn it around quite fast.

From what I've seen both Madrid and Liverpool have deployed him as the deepest midfielder. Perhaps he's too restrained

Isn't it the opposite? I thought it was that he's been playing further forward for Liverpool than he ever did for Dortmund.

Don't think he has been truly awful tbh. Mediocre but not as bad as some other Pool players + has had some good games too.

And wasn't he injured ?

Doesn't sound like a Mourinho player at all that. But then, apparently he is leaving so you never know.

He should have gone to Arsenal. Wenger would have been able to use him more effectively.

I said before he moved to Madrid that he wasn't ready for it; I just wasn't convinced by him at all, even though he did obviously have talent. I think he plays too far up the pitch for Liverpool, he needs to be deep and out of the hustle and bustle with everything in front of him.

You can't judge players based off how well they do in Bundesliga. It's very overrated as a league. Some very mediocre players over there and not close to Premiership level. Just look how taken by surprise Kagawa has been by the pace of the game over here.

3 German teams have made the last 16 of the Champions League this year, all 3 as group winners. Only 2 English teams have made the last 16 and only 1 as group winners.

Top 4 looks like it is etching closer.

Fellaini, Pienaar and Jelavic are a better attacking 3 than anything Liverpool have

If I had to put money on it right now, it'd be this. Don't think it's nearly as clear-cut as some here like to make out though. Our squad is better than most here give credit for.

I know Liverpool could still finish ahead of Everton but it was funny how B19 dismissed Everton as having no chance of finish ahead of Liverpool.
